Grease stars from the Broadway show and film help the NBC show
December 5th, 2006 under Stage, TV Reality. [ Comments: none ]

Grease veterans (of stage and screen) Jeff Conaway, Adrian Zmed, Marilu Henner, Lucy Lawless and Barry Bostwick as well as Hairspray’s Marissa Jaret Winokur and Rent’s Jai Rodriguez will be special guests on NBC’s "You’re The One That I Want." The NBC show, which will cast the two lead roles in the Broadway revival of Grease, debuts on the broadcast network Jan. 7, 2007, at 8 PM (ET). "Access Hollywood" co-anchor Billy Bush and U.K. television and theatre star Denise Van Outen will host the show, which kicks off with two one-and-a-half hour shows (on Jan. 7 and 14) before continuing on Sunday nights in an hour-long format. Check your local listings. Jeff Conaway (Kenickie in the film and a Danny replacement in the original Broadway show), Adrian Zmed (Danny replacement in original and revival, Johnny in "Grease 2"), Marilu Henner (Marty replacement in original Broadway run), Lucy Lawless (Rizzo replacement in revival) and Barry Bostwick (the original Broadway Danny Zuko) are slated to appear on the show as guests. Jai Rodriguez (Rent, "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy") and Marissa Jaret Winokur (Tony Award winner from Hairspray) will also participate. Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall (The Pajama Game) will direct and choreograph the new Broadway production as well as judge the competition> Her judging co-horts will be Grease co-creator Jim Jacobs and theatre producer David Ian. Paul Nicholas and David Ian Associates, Nederlander Presentations and Phoenix Productions will produce the Broadway run of the show, which begins rehearsals on or about April 1, 2007. The musical Grease – by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey – debuted on Broadway Feb. 14, 1972 and captured the spirit of audiences with its the 1950’s-set all-American lovestory of two teens from opposite sides of the fence who fall in love one summer only to discover each other again, this time attending Rydell High School. Will the "bad boy" and the "good girl" be able to rekindle their romance amid the politics of high school?

As much as I love Adrian Zmed, I have to wonder if Grease 2 counts? And I did not know that Barry Bostwick was the original Danny Zuko, I bet he was great in the role!
BTW can you believe two Grease posts in one day? On that note, I think we can conclude that we can count out Olivia Newton-John in the show, don’t you?

Olivia Newton-John wants Universal to Grease her palm
December 5th, 2006 under Lawsuits, Olivia Newton-John. [ Comments: none ]

Lawsuit is the word: Olivia Newton-John is suing Universal Music Group Inc. for allegedly failing to pay more than $1 million in royalties on sales of the "Grease" soundtrack album. Newton-John starred with John Travolta in the 1978 movie version of the Broadway hit. The breach-of-contract suit was filed Friday in Los Angeles County Superior court. It contends that while Universal did pay some royalties on the album, it failed to make a range of other contractual payments, said John Mason, an attorney for Newton-John. According to the suit, a recent audit showed Universal owes more than $1 million to Newton-John’s company, ON-J Productions, Ltd. "The lawsuit is without merit and, at the appropriate time, we expect that the court will dismiss it," Universal said in a statement Tuesday.

What took her people so long to realize they owe her a million?

Have you seen VH1’s Celebhead?
December 5th, 2006 under VH1/MTV. [ Comments: none ]

Beginning today VH1 Mobile is transporting viewers into the minds of celebrities with its new, original, made-for-mobile series “Celebhead.” Each episode is a hilarious, short-form parody that uses the technique of first person camera to capture a celebrity’s distinct point-of-view. The average person has no idea what it’s really like to be inside celebrities’ heads in an “US Weekly” meets “Being John Malkovich” world, until now. The series is launching on VH1 Mobile with “Celebhead: Paris Hilton.” Each episode will feature a single star’s likeness from a wide range of today’s most talked about personalities. Upcoming episodes will parody the daily lives of famous actors, artists, and politicians. If they’re headline regulars, chances are they’re perfect fodder for some gentle spoofing on “Celebhead.” The series was specifically imagined for the small screen of mobile devices – the combination of viewing it on handheld screens and shooting in first person camera creates a unique comedic effect that sets “Celebhead” apart. All episodes will be available on VH1 Mobile’s cross-carrier mobile video services and at http://celebhead.vh1.com. The series is also available on the VSPOT syndicated player, which launched November 27, and gives users and Web publishers the ability to “snag” the player and content for their own sites. The VSPOT syndicated player is dynamically updated with new content and also offers search and “send-to-a-friend” capabilities, using Flash Web publishing technology

Will LOST stand tall at 10p?
December 5th, 2006 under Lost. [ Comments: none ]

ABC is moving "Lost" out of the way of the "American Idol" juggernaut. Alphabet’s January sked, set to be unveiled later today, has "Lost" moving to Wednesdays at 10 when it returns Feb. 7, insiders said. Shift ensures the third-year skein won’t have to battle the Fox behemoth. A year ago, "Lost" took a notable ratings hit once "Idol" returned. Skein has held steady in the ratings this fall vs. last spring, but ABC execs clearly don’t want to take the chance of further slippage. Net’s affils should be happy with the shift. With "Lost" at 10 p.m., ABC will be delivering local stations their best numbers for the slot in years. ABC isn’t completely backing away from "Idol," however. Net has decided to slot its buzzworthy laffer "Knights of Prosperity" Wednesdays at 9 p.m., directly against the "Idol" results show. It’ll be paired at 9:30 with another new comedy, "In Case of Emergency." New laffer block is set to debut Jan. 3, a month before "Daybreak" was set to end its run. Skein may shift to 10 p.m. Wednesday before "Lost" premieres, though it’s more likely it’ll simply be yanked at the end of December or moved to another night. ABC will round out its Wednesday lineup with new episodes of "George Lopez" and "According to Jim" from 8-9 p.m. Net will double-pump "Jim" for a few weeks, with "George" bowing Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. On Tuesdays, "Show Me the Money’ will shift to 8 p.m. on Jan. 2. It’ll be paired with "Big Day" and "Help Me Help You." Latter laffer may eventually be replaced by newcomer "Notes from the Underbelly," though no decision has been made. ABC’s Sunday, Monday and Thursday skeds will remain unchanged for now. At some point, net will have to make room for the return of "Dancing with the Stars." On Fridays, ABC will continue to vamp with repeats. Saturday will be a mix of movies and specials. Still on the bench: six episodes of "The Nine" and "Six Degrees."
I am not sure how I feel about the move. Either way their numbers will be down when they come back, but will they lose viewers more against Idol or because of the later time slot. It will be interesting to see how it does with it’s new time slot.
When it comes to the new shows, not one of them grabs me…what about you?
