The lead singer of the hugely popular children’s group The Wiggles announced Thursday he would stop performing because of illness. In a video-recorded statement, Greg Page said he had been suffering a condition called orthostatic intolerance that had left him debilitated. "It means that I’ll no longer be able to sing and dance as I want to and as a result I’ve decided to stop performing with The Wiggles," said Page, 34, who is known for his bright yellow T-shirt. The Wiggles were Australia’s top-earning entertainers last year, ahead of No. 2 AC/DC and No. 3 Nicole Kidman. The four men in brightly colored T-shirts, accompanied by a cast of characters including Dorothy the Dinosaur and Wags the Dog, grossed $39 million last year. Page helped found The Wiggles in 1991 after he and two other members met while studying early childhood education at Sydney’s Macquarie University.

Did TomKat buy a love nest in The UK? |
November 29th, 2006 under Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes/Suri. [ Comments: none ]

First it was the silent Scientology birth. Then came the no-expense-spared Scientology wedding. Now Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have splashed out £2.5million on a home in West Sussex – the county where the controversial religion has its UK base. The six-bedroom house, on a private estate, has an indoor swimming pool, underground garage, sports pavilion, games room and a state-of-the-art greenhouse. There is a high-tech security system and a cottage for staff. The newlyweds also have homes in Beverly Hills and Colorado. Scientology leader, David Miscavige, who was 44-year- old Cruise’s best man at his wedding ceremony in Italy last week is thought to have inspired the purchase. Scientology’s founder, L Ron Hubbard, lived for seven years at Saint Hill Castle in East Grinstead, now the UK headquarters. Revealing the purchase, the American magazine U.S. Weekly said it was not known when Cruise and 27-year-old Dawson’s Creek star Miss Holmes will spend their first night at the property. Last night estate agent Simon Lillicrap, of Howard Cundey and Co, said the Mission: Impossible star had been attracted to properties in the area in the past. He said: ‘Tom was looking at houses a couple of years ago while he was still with Nicole Kidman. But they didn’t buy anything. ‘The houses where he has bought are very exclusive. They range in price from about £500,000 to £2.5million – but for what they would be getting it is quite a buy. ‘The park, the road and all the hedges are maintained by the residents – it is a completely private estate and the houses are lovely.’ Last night a spokesman for Cruise said he was ‘not aware of the purchase’ of the house.

Who is the top paid Hollywood actress? And it is not Julia Roberts anymore!!! |
November 29th, 2006 under Movies. [ Comments: none ]

Nicole Kidman was Hollywood’s highest-paid actress in 2006, nudging America’s sweetheart, Julia Roberts, from the top spot for the first time in five years, according to an annual showbiz earnings list. Kidman, an Oscar winner for her 2002 portrait of Virginia Woolf in "The Hours," commands an estimated $16 million to $17 million per movie after a string of daring roles over the past year, entertainment trade paper The Hollywood Reporter said on Wednesday. Kidman’s acting fee still falls short of the $20 million per movie earned by fellow Oscar winner Roberts, 39, before the "Erin Brockovich" star put her blockbuster film career on hold to marry and have children. None of this year’s 10 highest-paid actresses comes close to the $25 million salary commanded by such leading men as Tom Cruise or Jim Carrey for their roles in big-budget Hollywood movies. The four actresses rounding out the top five on the 2006 list — Reese Witherspoon, Renee Zellweger, Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz — earned an estimated $15 million per film each. They were followed by Halle Berry, Charlize Theron and Angelina Jolie at Nos. 6, 7 and 8 with acting fees of $14 million, $10 million and $10 million, respectively. "Spider-Man" star Kirsten Dunst, 24, entered the list for the first time at No. 9 with a paycheck of between $8 million and $10 million, just ahead of former "Friends" star Jennifer Aniston, who earned an estimated $8 million per movie. In addition to Kidman, five of the top 10 actresses were Oscar winners — Witherspoon for "Walk the Line," Zellweger for "Cold Mountain," Berry for "Monster’s Ball," Theron for "Monster" and Jolie for "Girl, Interrupted."

That is a messed up list, there are so many actors who deserve more than the names listed above. Most of them don’t even bring in a box office anymore. Sad.

Mel Gibson feels for Michael Richards |

Or said them on stage at a comedy club? I felt like sending Michael Richards a note. I feel really badly for the guy. He was obviously in a state of stress. You don’t need to be inebriated to be bent out of shape. My heart went out to the guy. Poor f—er, he’s getting it now. They’ll probably torture him for a while and then let him go. I like him.
Entertainment Weekly
They make a perfect pair. The EW interview has him denying he is an anti-semite and Passion was not anti-semitic and blah lies blah. Oh yeah boycott Apocalypto.

Celine Dion’s voice won’t go on…for the rest of the year |

Celine Dion has canceled the next five performances of her Las Vegas show, as well as an appearance at the Billboard Music Awards next week, because of a highly contagious respiratory infection, show producers said Wednesday. The 38-year-old Grammy award-winning singer is being treated for Mycoplasma bronchitis, a contagious bacterial infection, and has been ordered to rest during her recovery, producers said. Performances of A New Day at Caesars Palace, a revue created by former Cirque du Soleil artistic director Franco Dragone, were canceled from Wednesday through Sunday, after which Dion was scheduled to take a holiday break from the five-show-a-week regimen. The show will not resume until Dec. 28. Dion also backed out of a scheduled appearance at the Billboard Music Awards on Monday in Las Vegas. Kris Lingle, A New Day spokeswoman, said ticket-holders would receive refunds or could book other show dates. Dion last canceled performances in April, days ahead of her 500th show at the Las Vegas Strip hotel-casino. The singer began a three-year, $100 million contract at Caesars in March 2003, then extended it through next year.

Not judging her, but isn’t it ironic she gets sick right before her holiday vacation?
