Has Whitney Houston been in rehab since April? |

The news that Whitney Houston has filed for divorce from Bobby Brown isn’t so simple, of course. Her friends and family are in battle mode now, prepared to protect her, they tell me, during this fragile time. Houston has filed for a separation using a Southern California address — and that’s key to what’s going on here. She really lives in both Georgia and New Jersey, where she owns expensive homes. But her divorce filing indicates that she’s lived in California since April. The state requires six-month residency for a divorce, so Whitney will file for the permanent parting next month. Sources tell me that she has indeed been in California since April, undergoing a total rehab for all her vices and illnesses. “It’s not a regular treatment facility,” says a source who cautions that everyone is concerned about Whitney suddenly being overwhelmed by media. Still, eagle-eyed readers who’ve examined the divorce filing can see that Houston lists Laguna Hills, Calif., as her address. There are only a couple of facilities that could handle her situation. But in that spirit, all that this column can do is beg paparazzi and tabloid snoops to stay away. It’s in their best interests anyway: a healthy, long-living Whitney will only provide much future fodder for you. It will be much more exciting to tell the tale of Whitney Houston’s comeback than her demise. Houston’s insiders are mostly worried that Brown will interfere with her plans or her progress. It’s a reasonable fear. And then there’s Houston’s choice of divorce venue. Georgia might actually be a better state for her, since there are 13 different ways to claim a divorce. California, on the other hand, is simply a no-fault state, so Houston won’t be able to accuse Brown of any number of infelicities. The good news: sources tell me that the couple signed a pre-nup years ago, so the state of filing may not matter at all.

That explains why she looked so much better earlier this week.

Paris Hilton and Travis Barker just friends…with benefits? |

After getting caught playing tonsil hockey with Travis Barker on Tuesday, Paris Hilton had some choice words about the ex-Blink 182 bandmate last night. On her way out of Hollywood nightclub Hyde, a photographer asked the heiress, "What’s up with you and Travis Barker?" Paris’ reply — "He’s one of my dear friends," adding, "I’m single, he’s my friend." Though Hilton is clearly enjoying the single life, there’s still one question that remains: How often does Paris have makeout sessions with her friends?

I make out with all my dear friends too, don’t you?

Veteran actor PAT CORLEY, perhaps best known as Phil the barkeep on TV’s "Murphy Brown," has died. He was 76. The actor’s son tells the Associated Press that Corley died of congestive heart failure on September 11 at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He had reportedly undergone surgery for the placement of coronary stents. Corley’s acting career spanned five decades and covered stage (on and off-Broadway), film and television. In addition to playing the surly barkeep and personal advisor to CANDICE BERGEN’s character in "Murphy Brown," the Dallas native had roles on such TV shows as "Hill Street Blues," "Cagney & Lacey," "Magnum P.I." and "Night Court." In film, he was featured in such projects as ‘Against All Odds,’ ‘Coming Home’ and ‘True Confessions.’ A memorial service for the actor is said to be scheduled for Saturday in Northridge.

Is Bobby Brown living with Karrine Steffans? |

Bobby Brown is seeking comfort from hip-hop temptress Karrine Steffans, now that Whitney Houston wants him out of her life. Word is Brown has been staying at the Beverly Hills home of Steffans – and that she was with Brown in L.A. on Tuesday when Houston’s process server slapped him with divorce papers. "It’s not like Bobby didn’t see this coming," says a buddy who’s talked with Brown. "He and Whitney hadn’t been living together for months. But it was a blow. He said, ‘Let’s get some beers. I need to gather my senses.’" Steffans refuses to talk about the split. "It’s not my place to speak about their marriage," says the author of the best-selling "Confessions of a Video Vixen." "It’s not a happy time." Steffans, famed for the pleasure she has given some of the biggest stars of music and sports, insisted, "I’m not a home-wrecker. I got dragged into this." "I can’t break up a 16-year marriage in a few months," said the woman once known as "Superhead." "I’m not that super." Friends vouch that there’s really not much romance between the upwardly mobile Steffans and the downwardly mobile Brown. After Houston cut the "My Prerogative" singer loose, he needed a place to crash in L.A. Steffans’ new mountaintop manse fit the bill. She even paid for his cell phone. Meanwhile, being branded Bobby’s "other woman" has its uses. The press-savvy vixen, who’s working on her second book, is being courted by producers for "Extra" and Howard Stern. She’s also hearing more often from her on-and-off boyfriend Bill Maher. "Bill and I have discussed Bobby," she laughed. "But Bobby is not an issue in my relationship. I still love Bill. He’s the love of my life. I know you’ll see us back together."

I wonder if he really was with her when he was served?

More excerpts from John Lequizamo’s memoir’s |

Everybody who ever worked with John Leguizamo better grab a copy of his new memoir, "Pimps, Hos, Playa Hatas, and All the Rest of My Hollywood Friends." Yeah, we told you about Leguizamo’s run-ins with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Penelope Ann Miller and other people. But allow us to share a few more pages from Mambo Mouth’s diary. Take the ordeal of playing miniature painter Toulouse-Lautrec in "Moulin Rouge!" Director Baz Luhrmann had him wear prosthetic legs and lay prone all day on the floor. But there was an upside: "I got to peek up Nicole Kidman’s skirt. Let me just say the curtains match the carpet." Having "those really hot scenes with Mira Sorvino" in "Summer of Sam" was also "kind of trippy," especially since his wife, Teeny, was pregnant at the time. "Mira is really beautiful. And really smart," he writes. "She’s a great package." Leguizamo admits that he sometimes becomes aroused filming a sex scene. "I feel like I should apologize for it," he says. "Like the owner of a dog … ‘Sorry. Down boy. Roll over. Play dead.’" Leguizamo also writes about having to gratify himself in front of the camera in "Spun," having rough sex with an extra on "Carlito’s Way" and almost coming to blows with "Miss Crazy" Patrick Swayze in "To Wong Foo …" He still regrets any pain he may have caused Method acting god Lee Strasberg. After working with him one day, Strasberg died. Says Leguizamo: "I have that effect on people."

I have to admit that Strassberg thing made me LOL!
