Un-Lucky Louie
September 18th, 2006 under TV Scripted Prime Time. [ Comments: none ]

HBO has canceled "Lucky Louie," its first attempt at a traditional three-camera sitcom. The series, starring comedian Louis C.K. as a working-class husband and father, premiered in June to a weak 1.5 million viewers. The season finale was seen by 1.3 million viewers, about on par with its 13-episode season average. By comparison, the third season finale of "Entourage" was seen by 2.5 million viewers.  "Louis is an incredible talent and a wonderful partner," said Carolyn Strauss, president of HBO Entertainment, in a statement. "We loved trying our first multicamera show with him, and we look forward to other projects with Louis in the future."

The Knack sue Run DMC for sampling My Sharona two decades ago
September 18th, 2006 under Lawsuits. [ Comments: 1 ]

On Friday, attorneys representing the Knack’s Doug Fieger and Berton Averre — songwriters of the 1979 chart-topping hit "My Sharona" — filed a copyright-infringement lawsuit in Los Angeles against the members of Run-DMC, claiming the rappers did not have permission to sample the song’s core riff in one of their most recognizable tracks, "It’s Tricky." The filing — which also names Rick Rubin (who produced the cut for 1986’s Raising Hell), Arista Records, Rush Groove Music, Rush Communications, online music retailers Yahoo, Amazon, Napster, iTunes and others as defendants — claims that Run-DMC engaged in the "unauthorized copying, reproduction and distribution of [the Knack’s] musical composition and improperly [profiting from]" use of the sample, which the suit claims was "willfully, or with reckless disregard, unlawfully appropriated." The document asserts that, because of Run-DMC’s sampling of "My Sharona," Fieger and Averre have "suffered actual damages, including lost profits, lost opportunities, loss of goodwill, lost publicity, attorneys’ fees and interest." The suit seeks unspecified damages and related legal fees, and characterizes the "signature" riff sampled in "It’s Tricky" as "the essence" of the song. In addition, the suit requests a permanent injunction barring the sale, reproduction, and commercial release of "It’s Tricky," and suggests that Fieger or Averre’s "percentage of ownership in [’It’s Tricky’]" be determined and factored into a declaratory judgment — which should also consider what profits the pair are due from the sale of the Run-DMC song. "Our clients created a unique and distinctive musical composition in ‘My Sharona,’ " attorney Dick Schultz said. "Others shouldn’t be allowed to profit from the unauthorized use of that creation. That is what copyright laws are for, and we are protecting our clients’ rights in their creation." "That [riff] is not only the essence of ‘My Sharona,’ it is one of the most recognizable sounds in rock and roll," said Fieger through his lawyers. Despite the popularity of the riff, some may wonder why Fieger and Averre waited two decades to take action against the hip-hop icons. The lawsuit claims the pair never heard the DMC classic before 2005. No date has been set for the first hearing in the action. Representatives for Run-DMC were unavailable for comment at press time.

What took them so long? Seriously they are twenty years too late to do this! I guess when they are asked to explain their actons, The Knack will say "It’s Tricky!"

Dave Navarro explains why we should not trust Life & Style
September 18th, 2006 under Carmen Electra Dave Navarro. [ Comments: none ]

Life & Style are now officially the new Kings of the Bottom feeders. They make Star and The Inquirer look like wings in the Library of Congress. L & S has stated that I am homeless and heartbroken after being kicked out of someone’s home (whom I never dated or lived with). As you know, I don’t like to respond to this stuff, but my real issue with them isn’t the story or my denial, it’s the fact that they called for a comment and chose not to run it because it made the story less dramatic and sensational. What did they think I was going to do? Confirm? When they asked for my response, I informed them that not only have I never dated the woman in question, but I have never even been to her home, let alone lived there. I am also very much housed, living in a comfortable residence situated in the heart of fabulous Hollywood, CA. In true L & S form, they chose to go with the "source", instead of the facts that came directly from the center of their story… Me. Is it worth my attention? No, not at all… But it sure is fun! HAHA! Plus, I like to give you, the reader, an inside look at how this shit goes down. (It also doesn’t suck that I get to trash L & S in the process!)

I find this so funny because now we have celebrity more proof why not to trust Life & Style!

Clay Aiken talks about touring and ATDW!
September 18th, 2006 under American Idol 1-5. [ Comments: none ]

Clay Aiken’s third album, the covers-heavy "A Thousand Different Ways," comes out tomorrow (Sept. 19), but the second season "American Idol" runner-up plans to take his time before he hits the road. "I probably won’t start touring until early next year," says Aiken, who will play some "spot dates that are solely Christmas stuff" in November and December. "I’ve done a lot of the big outdoor fairs and arenas, but all my favorite stuff has been the Christmas tours, where I’ve been in a theater. So I’d like to try that this time with this album. "It’s a very intimate album in terms of the concept and what’s on it, so I’d like to try to do something a little more intimate this time," he continues. "We’re looking at starting that hopefully around February or March." "A Thousand Different Ways," which features 10 covers and four original songs, is actually an outgrowth of Aiken’s 2004 summer show, which focused on his personal favorites from the ’50s through the present day. "Initially the whole album was going to be full of original songs," Aiken notes, "but as we were doing that tour we realized it’s very hard to come by songs with such great melodies anymore. So I started saying, ‘Let’s cover this one on the album. Let’s cover that one,’ and finally [RCA Music Group chairman/CEO] Clive Davis said, ‘Y’know, it isn’t a bad idea. Why don’t you just do an album full of covers and let’s try and wrap a concept around it and make it the greatest love songs of all time.’"

There is just something so endearing about him!
