Project Runway 3 model leaves the hospital
July 28th, 2006 under Project Runway. [ Comments: none ]

Stunning "Project Runway" model Jia Santos – who was hit by a bus and dragged underneath it – is finally out of the hospital, with a puffy eye the only outward sign of her ordeal. The 18-year-old beauty was released from St. Vincent’s Hospital Manhattan Wednesday night after a six-week stay that included extensive surgery for a fractured skull and right eye socket. The horrific accident, which occurred as Santos was riding her bike to a taping of the Bravo program in mid-June, initially left her in critical condition.Santos, born Eliza Jakubek in Hungary, had reached the final three on the reality show, where fashion designers compete for $100,000 and other prizes and their models for a spread in Elle magazine. The show went on without her, and her accident reportedly is explained in the finale.Santos left the hospital wearing large sunglasses and accompanied by her boyfriend, artist Biagio Black, and two other friends."She’s still pretty tired from everything," Black told the Daily News yesterday. "She’s very happy to be out.""She seems to be healing well and we wish her the best of luck with her career," said one of her doctors, general internist Daniel Sulmasy. On Wednesday, Santos seemed reluctant at first to stop and pose for a News photographer, but after her friends cheered her on, she worked the sidewalk like a runway model.

I am not sure who her designer is currently on the show, but since the designers can switch models there might be no way to know who she was with at the time of the accident.

Lance Bass’ boyfriend, Reichen Lehmkuhl, talks exclusively to Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush about Bass’ coming out and his book "Here’s What We’ll Say: A Memoir of Growing Up, Coming Out, and the U.S. Air Force." On Thursday afternoon, Lehmkuhl told Bush, "I will say that Lance is happier than he has ever been. It has been a long ride and it’s a huge relief and I couldn’t be happier for him and I couldn’t be more proud of him."When asked if bloggers’ speculations about their relationship forced Bass to come out, Lehmkuhl said, "I think through the entire time of being in the closet anyone is going to feel pressures from this or that. You know, obviously from the article, this was the time that Lance decided it was, you know, that he was ready to come out."When asked if he is concerned about Bass’ career, Lehmkuhl said, "No, not at all. I think it is always best in your career to be honest…He is going to have more support and more happiness and more freedom than he has ever had before and it is going to be a liberating experience. I guarantee it." In discussing public reaction to Bass’ admission and whether or not the couple has been following the coverage, Lehmkuhl told Bush, "Yeah, we’ve seen a few shows and, you know, it’s all very positive." In regards to the timing of his book’s release and Bass’ coming out, Lehmkuhl said, "I have been thinking about writing this book for over ten years. Lance and I have a very new relationship here. Is Lance supportive of the book and excited about it, ‘yes.’ Did he prompt me to write it or prompt me to put it out, ‘no.’ Did I have a contract that the book was going to come out October 1 of this year before I even met Lance, ‘yes.’"

The One ain’t
July 27th, 2006 under TV Reality. [ Comments: none ]

The One" is done. ABC has pulled the plug on the singing competish, barely one week after it bowed to disastrous Nielsen numbers. Skein’s July 18 premiere goes down as the lowest-rated adults 18-49 debut for a reality show (a 1.1 demo rating/3 share) in modern TV history. The Alphabet nonetheless aired three more episodes of "The One: Making a Superstar" (plus a repeat of the two-hour premiere) in the hope that ratings might improve. Instead, they declined even further — and Thursday morning, ABC execs decided they’d had enough.Cancellation, while expected after last week’s numbers, leaves ABC with a big scheduling hole to fill between now and mid-September, when "The One" was slated to wrap. There’s no word yet on what ABC will air in its place.
