Pete Doherty getting published…why?
June 21st, 2006 under Pete Doherty/Kate Moss. [ Comments: none ]

Pete Doherty has signed a book deal to publish his diaries, it was announced today.

The drug-addled Babyshambles singer will release 20 volumes of poems, drawings, lyrics and personal reflections in one hardback book.

Doherty was supposed to attend the publishing launch this afternoon in his favourite pub to do a poetry reading – but failed to turn up.

Ian Preece, commissioning editor of Orion Books, explained that the singer would not be coming.

“It’s probably because Holland v Argentina is on. That’s rock’n’roll” he said.

Orion have bought the world rights to Doherty’s journals.

They will chart his rise to fame from 1999 to the present day including his time with first band The Libertines, his relationship with supermodel Kate Moss and his spells in rehab and jail.

The launch took place at The Boogaloo pub in Highgate, north London, one of the singer’s favourite hang-outs.

Preece said: “The diaries stretch right back to Pete’s early years.

“They are full of poems, lyrics, thoughts, artwork and photos.

“Some of it is very funny, some it is pretty dark. All of it is incredibly readable.

“It is intimate and honest stuff and a complete antidote to a lot of what you might have read about him.”

The journals will be published in March 2007. Doherty, 27, said in a statement: “I am very happy to have a book coming out with Orion and to share a bookshelf with H G Wells, Ian Rankin and Stan Bowles.

“I’ve always wanted to have a book published and it’s all very exciting for me personally.

“Vaya con dios.”

The singer recently finished a spell in a Portuguese rehab clinic where he received treatment for crack and heroin addiction.

A judge has warned him he faces jail if he does not stay off drugs

OMG! A $100 Hamburger?
June 21st, 2006 under Cool Technology. [ Comments: none ]

A hundred bucks might buy you more than six dozen burgers from McDonald’s, but the swanky Old Homestead Steakhouse will sell you one brawny beef sandwich for the same price.

Boca Raton Mayor Steven Abrams could barely speak between bites as he devoured the 20-ounce, $100 hamburger billed as the "beluga caviar of sandwiches."

"Heaven on a bun," restaurant owner Marc Sherry said.

The burger debuted Tuesday at the restaurant in the Boca Raton Resort and Club, where a membership costs $40,000 and an additional $3,600 a year.

"We’ve never had a hamburger on our menu here so we really wanted to go to the extreme," Sherry said, calling it "the most decadent burger in the world."

At about 5 1/2 inches across and 2 1/2 inches thick, the mound of meat is comprised of beef from three continents — American prime beef, Japanese Kobe and Argentine cattle.

The bill for one burger, with garnishing that includes organic greens, exotic mushrooms and tomatoes, comes out to $124.50 with tax and an 18 percent tip included. The restaurant will donate $10 from each sale to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

It better be the best dang hamburger I have ever had in my life for $100.

June 21st, 2006 under Aaron/Candy/Tori Spelling. [ Comments: none ]

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Television producer Aaron Spelling suffered a stroke over the weekend at his Holmby Hills estate and he’s being treated at home, his publicist said Wednesday.

"He had a stroke Sunday at home," spokesman Kevin Sasaki said, adding doctors were treating the 83-year-old producer at his mansion The Manor.

The producer of such TV shows as Beverly Hills 90210, Charlie’s Angels, Dynasty, Love Boat, Melrose Place and Fantasy Island is conscious and resting comfortably, Sasaki said. Spelling’s wife Candy has been at his side.

The seriousness of the stroke was unclear. Sasaki said he wasn’t aware of any paralysis.

"I don’t know the extent of it," Sasaki said. "But if it had been some incredible degree he would have been taken to the hospital."

Spelling’s other hit series included Burke’s Law, The Mod Squad, Starsky and Hutch, T.J. Hooker, Matt Houston, Hart to Hart and Hotel.

He also produced more than 140 television movies, including Death Sentence (1974), Nick Nolte’s first starring role, and The Boy in the Plastic Bubble (1976), John Travolta’s first dramatic role.

Spelling and his second wife, Candy, have two children, actress Tori Spelling and actor Randy, who appeared in the short-lived Malibu Shores.

Sorry I am so sick of musicians saying this is my last tour and it isn’t, so I am glad they are fighting back!
