After the winning singer is selected on the "Rock Star: Supernova" finale in September, the band will record an original album to be co-written and produced by Butch Walker (Avril Lavigne, Pink).  The album will then be released in the fall before the band embarks on a world tour starting in early 2007.

"Rock Star: Supernova" will air two weekly broadcasts, beginning with a special premiere on Wednesday, July 5 (8:00-9:30 PM, ET/PT), followed by another special broadcast on Thursday, July 6 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) before moving to its regularly scheduled Tuesday (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) and Wednesday (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) time periods the following week.

This is not funny: Jon Stewart and his hit Comedy Central cable show may be poisoning democracy.

Two political scientists found that young people who watch Stewart’s faux news program, "The Daily Show," develop cynical views about politics and politicians that could lead them to just say no to voting.

That’s particularly dismaying news because the show is hugely popular among college students, many of whom already don’t bother to cast ballots.

Jody Baumgartner and Jonathan S. Morris of East Carolina University said previous research found that nearly half — 48 percent — of this age group watched "The Daily Show" and only 23 percent of show viewers followed "hard news" programs closely.

To test for a "Daily Effect," Baumgartner and Morris showed video clips of coverage of the 2004 presidential candidates to one group of college students and campaign coverage from "The CBS Evening News" to another group. Then they measured the students’ attitudes toward politics, President Bush and the Democratic presidential nominee, Sen. John F. Kerry (Mass.).

The results showed that the participants rated both candidates more negatively after watching Stewart’s program. Participants also expressed less trust in the electoral system and more cynical views of the news media, according to the researchers’ article, in the latest issue of American Politics Research.

"Ultimately, negative perceptions of candidates could have participation implications by keeping more youth from the polls," they wrote.

SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR and FREDDIE PRINZE JR have slammed rumours Prinze’s new TV show FREDDIE is tearing them apart. The couple have been plagued by reports they are on the verge of splitting since the SHE’S ALL THAT star signed up to his new sitcom last year (05). A source tells the New York Daily News that, "Ever since he started that show Freddie things were over." They have reportedly been living apart in recent weeks. However, the couple’s representative LESLIE SLOANE ZELNICK has furiously denied the allegations, insisting the couple are still, "completely together." She adds they’ll be spending the weekend (24/25JUN06) together at Zelnick’s house in Connecticut. Michelle Gellar and Prinze Jr married in 2002.

Rocker ROD STEWART made sure things were above board at his daughter’s birthday bash last week (ends18JUN06) by making sure guests were legally allowed to drink. Stewart threw a party for his daughter RUBY’s 19th birthday at his home in Beverly Hills, inviting 300 of her closest friends. Since his daughter isn’t old enough to drink legally in the US, Stewart had security guards at the door checking identification. Only guests over 21-years-old were given wristbands that permitted them to drink alcoholic beverages. Underage guests had to settle for soft drinks. During the course of the evening Stewart personally patrolled the party in his bathrobe, interrupting groups to ask people, ‘How old are you?’, before double-checking their wristbands.

SANDRA BULLOCK once ordered five dozen long-stemmed roses and had them sent to herself in order to make a potential boyfriend jealous. The SPEED star was desperate to capture the attention of a potential suitor and thought the lavish bouquets from a mystery man would arouse his envy. She explains, "I have no problem talking about a very shallow, needy time in my life. "There was a guy I was really crazy about, but he would only give me the time of day when it was convenient. "I ordered five dozen roses and put them in my house with cards. I sent them to myself because I knew he was coming by to drop off some keys. "He left and I got a call from him right away! That’s what depressed me – it worked! "We ended up dating for a very long time. I was sad about my actions and that I had to stoop to that level and it worked! "And It was expensive! I had no money!"
