How cheap is Paris?
June 28th, 2006 under Paris Hilton. [ Comments: none ]

Partying heiress PARIS HILTON was denied a special discount when she checked in at her family’s Hilton Hotel in Glasgow recently. The socialite was in Scotland to promote her new single STARS ARE BLIND on Glasgow’s Real Radio Breakfast Show when the show’s hosts ROBIN and CAT mentioned Hilton could stay at the local Hilton. The granddaughter of hotel proprietor CONRAD HILTON called up the hotel on air, but was told she wasn’t eligible for a reduced rate. The Hilton employee said, "There is no discount I can initiate, I’m afraid."

Affleck and Smith are friends again!
June 28th, 2006 under Ben Affleck. [ Comments: none ]

BEN AFFLECK is struggling with his directorial debut GONE, BABY, GONE so much he has called up old friend and film-maker KEVIN SMITH for advice. Affleck has appeared in six Smith movies, including CHASING AMY, JERSEY GIRL and MALLRATS, and the director was reportedly enraged when his former charge failed to cast him in Gone, Baby, Gone. He says, "He started complaining, ‘These actors won’t do what I say. They make up their own lines, they don’t follow the script.’ "Then he said, ‘I feel your pain.’"

It is hotter in The View studios than it is in LA
June 28th, 2006 under The View. [ Comments: none ]

Walters announced that Star would no longer be permitted to appear on the show — effective immediately — after Star strayed from script during an exit that’s turned ugly.

Transcipt:

WALTERS: "And then there were three. This is, truthfully, a very difficult day for us, and it is a sad day for us. If you were watching the program yesterday, you would have heard Star announce that she’s leaving THE VIEW and will not be on the program next fall.

"We didn’t expect her to make this statement yesterday. She gave us no warning. And we were taken by surprise. But the truth is that Star has known for months that ABC did not want to renew her contract and that she would not be asked back in the fall.

"The network made this decision based on a variety of reasons which I won’t go into now. But we were never going to say this. We wanted to protect star. And so we told her that she could say whatever she wanted about why she was leaving and that we would back her up.

"We worked closely with her representatives and we gave her time to look for another job. We hope she would announce it on the program and leave with dignity.

"But Star made another choice.

"And since her announcement yesterday, she has made further announcements that have surprised us.

"So it is becoming uncomfortable for us to pretend that everything is the same at this table.

"And, therefore, regrettably Star will no longer be on this program, except for some shows that have been prerecorded.

"THE VIEW helped make Star a Star and Star helped make THE VIEW the success that it is.

"We will never forget that. We wish her well in this new chapter of her life as we begin a new chapter on THE VIEW."

Sour 16 at The OC
June 28th, 2006 under Fox. [ Comments: none ]

Fox will be spending a little less time in "The OC" next season.

Turns out that when the net renewed the Josh Schwartz-created sudser in May, it also decided to cut back its episodic commitment to the show. Fox has asked producer Warner Bros. TV for only 16 episodes — a substantial reduction from the 22 that’s standard for most returning skeins.

A Fox spokesman attributed the cutback to the net’s scheduling needs. "The OC" won’t have its season premiere until Nov. 2 — about a month after most Fox shows — and therefore, the reasoning goes, net won’t need as many episodes in the can.

Nonetheless, even with the late start, Fox will be out of original "OC" episodes by the end of February. Net could be hoping to use the skein’s 9 p.m. Thursday slot to launch a show (or shows) in the spring, when "CSI" and "Grey’s Anatomy" likely will serve up a hefty dose of repeats.

"The OC" faces a tough task in the ratings, now that "Grey’s" is moving into the timeslot. Fox execs, however, believe the show’s core audience of young females will remain loyal.
