I never thought I would really want to see a movie with Shia LaBeouf and Dakota Johnson, but it could be because they are not the true stars of The Peanut Butter Falcon. The real star of the movie is Zack Gottsagen.
The darling movie is about, “Zak (Gottsagen), a young man with Down syndrome, who runs away from a residential nursing home to follow his dream of attending the professional wrestling school of his idol, The Salt Water Redneck (Thomas Haden Church). A strange turn of events pairs him on the road with Tyler (LaBeouf), a small time outlaw on the run, who becomes Zak’s unlikely coach and ally. Together they wind through deltas, elude capture, drink whisky, find God, catch fish, and convince Eleanor (Johnson), a kind nursing home employee charged with Zak’s return, to join them on their journey.”
I am so over superhero movies with comic book villains. It is nice to see a movie about finding friendship at the time you need them the most. It also does not matter what your friend is like as long as they are your companion. Hollywood needs more movies like this one. Mark your calendars for August 9th because you are not going to want to miss this endearing film. Plus, if you go see it, then we will get more features like this one. Money talks!
Heck, it might even get LaBeouf an Oscar nomination and make us like him again. It could also make us forget about Johnson’s other movies. Not to shade her or anything, but… Let their past work be that and this be their future endeavors.
