For 18 years, Martin Clunes played Doctor Martin Best on the other side of the pond, and he did it brilliantly.
Now, that role is being played by Josh Charles in the American version of the medical dramedy, Doc Martin, which is Best Medicine.
Tonight at 8p on Fox, Clunes still plays Dr. Best, but this time he is Martin’s (Charles) father, Robert. Robert and his wife (Judith Ivey) have come to Port Wenn to visit their son and see how he is doing there with his Aunt Sarah (Annie Potts). However, it is Martin who needs to see how his dad is doing because something is off with him.
Can the son diagnose his dad? All while his dad is diagnosing his son’s patients. And the two Best men will have to work together to save the life of one of the residents who finds themself in a harrowing situation.
It is not all about the Bests. Louisa (Abigail Spencer) gets some good and very bad news about her job. All while her students are preparing to spend the night in the school for a sleepover. Because Port Wenn.
Back to the Bests. Now that we have been introduced to Martin’s parents, we can understand why he is the way he is. They are even colder and more disassociated with people than he is. Believe it or not, he is warm and fuzzy as compared to them.
Also, seeing Clunes and Charles together, you can see why they cast The Good Wife actor in the role. He is a younger version of the original. And that is a very good thing, like the show itself.
