At just 22, Eileen Gu is the most decorated freestyle skier in Olympic history, and yesterday she was the most decorated celebrity at the Met Gala.
The three-time gold medal winner wore an original Iris van Herpen spaghetti-strapped mini dress covered in clear glass bubbles. As stunning as it is, what sets it over the top is that it blew actual bubbles around her!
The designer described it as:
The ‘Airo’ Dress is dissolving around @EileenGu at the Met Gala, created in collaboration with artists @a.a.murakami.
In response to this year’s theme, the atomic anatomy of the human body, made up of 99.9% empty space, is reflected through floating iridescent bubbles.
Hidden within the garment, microprocessors precisely coordinate the release of pressured gas and bubbles, sequenced through a dedicated digital interface and calibrated to operate autonomously.
15,000 hand-formed iridescent glass bubbles are individually bonded in place with UV light, releasing constellations of floating bubbles that drift into the air.

As beautiful as it looks online, I can only imagine how much seeing it in person would leave me awestruck. And it doesn’t hurt that the woman wearing it is as gorgeous as the morning after a snowstorm. She looks like a Disney Princess come to life.
