In case you haven’t heard, Will Smith bitch slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars over a bad joke the latter told about Jada Pinkett Smith. That moment is the most talked-about Oscar moment since Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced the wrong movie as Best Picture in 2017.
Now, looking back at the moment. Were there warning signs? Yes, there were. When Regina Hall was calling out names to come on stage to be her future husband, she called on Smith. He didn’t want to play along with the joke. Granted, it was an unfunny one, but still, play along like all the real men of the night.
The biggest sign happened before The Smiths left for the awards show. They recorded a TikTok with audio that said, “Good morning, everyone. Gd has let me live another day, and I am about to make it everyone’s problem.” Then the couple made fighting faces into the camera.
If that was not telling enough, Smith captioned the video with, “Me ‘n @jadapinkettsmith got all dressed up to choose chaos.” They lived up to this caption. And ruined an already disastrous Oscar show.
These were not the only telling signs. He once slapped a fake reporter for trying to kiss him on the mouth. And there is a report that he recently hit Anthony Mackie in the jaw.
I think Smith should get some therapy and look into anger management classes because there is something going on.
When it comes to Smiths, am I surprised by what happened? Yes, and no. It has long been rumored they are not nice people. And yesterday, his nice-guy persona was destroyed like Ellen DeGeneres’ was last year. I think that is he why he cried crocodile tears during his acceptance speech.
I hope the Academy takes away his statuette because he should not be rewarded for what happened.
When it comes to Jada Pinkett-Smith and her alopecia, she said when she first did it that, Willow inspired her to do it. Then in December, it was partially because of the alopecia, and part of it was freeing. I cover entertainment news, and I didn’t know she had it. So, why do we expect that Rock knew? It was a bad joke, and the comedian did not deserve to be assaulted over it.
How many bad jokes have been told at the Oscars? Not once did it lead to violence before last night. If you can’t take a joke, then don’t go to a show where you know you are going to be at least one joke. Smith is an actor, and he should’ve pretended like it didn’t matter. Then privately, take Rock aside and talk to him like a man.
Smith is a role model. He should act like one. Because he just told kids it is OK to slap someone who says something you don’t like. And what man slaps another one? That is what women do.
I am done for now. And I am embarrassed for the Hollywood community because of what Smith did. And I hope he is waking up to a PR nightmare because there needs to be consequences for his actions.
