At the end of the night, three of the four actors who won the Oscar for their work last year posed for a photo together. Who was missing? Will Smith, who won for Best Actor, was not in the photograph.
I am sure it is because the disgraced actor opted not to do the press room. But in my mind, I will think it is because Ariana DeBose, Troy Kotsur, and Jessica Chastain were too afraid to pose with Smith because they didn’t want to say the wrong thing to him. Can you blame them?
I look forward to seeing them at next year’s Academy Awards when they present to the new winners. I just hope AMPAS doesn’t invite Smith back.
And I don’t want to take away from their glory because all three of them deserved their awards, and they should be celebrated for winning. Thank you for your award-winning performances. I can’t wait to see what you do next.
Us lay people, who were not good enough to go to the Oscars, know what we were thinking when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock. But what were the people inside the Dolby Theatre thinking?
Juju shared what the people around him in the top row were thinking. “I was there, I saw it. It happened. And I can confirm that everyone, including myself, thought it was a joke. We thought it was a bit. I heard the sound. I heard the smack, and I thought, wow, that is a really cool sound effect. It sounded real. Then Will started yelling, and no we did not have the broadcast cut off because it was live. We heard eveything he said. There were many moments to walk it back, you know, to say it was a joke. But the fact that Will Smith said what he said twice. And if that wasn’t enough Chris Rock’s reaction to everything afterwards that kind of sealed the deal. That was when we knew it was real.” He said. “Then immediately chatting afterwards like what happens when he wins. It is literally the only thing that everyone is talking about right now. The only thing. It’s insane.”
So insane that in a second video, he said that they were talking about it in the bathroon during commercial breaks and at the post-parties.
It was the talk of Tinsle Town, and many towns in the world. So, it is not a good look for Hollywood. Therefore, I think that Smith should hold a press conference, apologize to Rock, the Academy, and movies fans for his actions. And then hand back his award, and say his actions make him ineligible for the honor. And then the Oscars should give the award to Andrew Garfield who deserved it for Tick Tick Boom and The Eyes of Tammy Faye.
In case you haven’t heard, Will Smith bitch slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars over a bad joke the latter told about Jada Pinkett Smith. That moment is the most talked-about Oscar moment since Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced the wrong movie as Best Picture in 2017.
Now, looking back at the moment. Were there warning signs? Yes, there were. When Regina Hall was calling out names to come on stage to be her future husband, she called on Smith. He didn’t want to play along with the joke. Granted, it was an unfunny one, but still, play along like all the real men of the night.
The biggest sign happened before The Smiths left for the awards show. They recorded a TikTok with audio that said, “Good morning, everyone. Gd has let me live another day, and I am about to make it everyone’s problem.” Then the couple made fighting faces into the camera.
If that was not telling enough, Smith captioned the video with, “Me ‘n @jadapinkettsmith got all dressed up to choose chaos.” They lived up to this caption. And ruined an already disastrous Oscar show.
These were not the only telling signs. He once slapped a fake reporter for trying to kiss him on the mouth. And there is a report that he recently hit Anthony Mackie in the jaw.
I think Smith should get some therapy and look into anger management classes because there is something going on.
When it comes to Smiths, am I surprised by what happened? Yes, and no. It has long been rumored they are not nice people. And yesterday, his nice-guy persona was destroyed like Ellen DeGeneres’ was last year. I think that is he why he cried crocodile tears during his acceptance speech.
I hope the Academy takes away his statuette because he should not be rewarded for what happened.
When it comes to Jada Pinkett-Smith and her alopecia, she said when she first did it that, Willow inspired her to do it. Then in December, it was partially because of the alopecia, and part of it was freeing. I cover entertainment news, and I didn’t know she had it. So, why do we expect that Rock knew? It was a bad joke, and the comedian did not deserve to be assaulted over it.
How many bad jokes have been told at the Oscars? Not once did it lead to violence before last night. If you can’t take a joke, then don’t go to a show where you know you are going to be at least one joke. Smith is an actor, and he should’ve pretended like it didn’t matter. Then privately, take Rock aside and talk to him like a man.
Smith is a role model. He should act like one. Because he just told kids it is OK to slap someone who says something you don’t like. And what man slaps another one? That is what women do.
I am done for now. And I am embarrassed for the Hollywood community because of what Smith did. And I hope he is waking up to a PR nightmare because there needs to be consequences for his actions.
Back when Morgan Cooper released a dramatic short of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, I was intrigued. Then when Peacock picked it up as a series, I couldn’t wait to see what they were going to do with Bel-Air. What the producers did, is give us a show that is so amazing; you will be like, how did this come from the sitcom we know so well?
Well, I actually, I don’t know it that well. I didn’t really watch it, but I know enough. Therefore, it was interesting to see how they changed it up and how they kept it the same.
Will (Jabari Banks) is a good student and star athlete in Philadelphia who is about to get recruited to college. He has everything until he gets arrested with a gun during a fight. His mom doesn’t want him going into a life of crime, so she sends him to Bel-Air to live with her estranged sister and her family.
When Will gets there, he meets his Aunt Viv (Cassandra Freeman), and she welcomes her nephew with open arms. The same cannot be said for his cousin Carlton (Olly Sholotan). Thankfully, his girl cousins, Hillary (Coco Jones) and Ashley (Akira Akbar), love their cousin, Will. Phillip Banks (Adrian Holmes) is a little standoffish about his nephew, but he knows he is doing the right thing by taking him in.
Uncle Phil is running for District Attorney, and all of his energy is focused on that. He doesn’t want Will ruining his chances of getting elected. However, he might be able to help. Uncle Phil is not getting support from people of color because he is out of touch with their needs in his multi-dollar mansion. Will is just what he needs to win them over.
Aunt Viv gave up her dream of being an artist to raise her three children. However, now, she is all about being the perfect politician’s wife and trying to get her husband elected.
Hillary is an online influencer, so she is living in front of the camera all of the time. Her parents want the college dropout to get a job. Since she is a popular influencer, that shouldn’t be that hard. Or is it? Not only is she good at telling people she doesn’t know what to do, but she is also able to do that with the family. She is the wise one who is keeping them all together. Her character is the most improved.
Carlton is the popular one at school, and he hates that his cousin has moved in on his territory. Not only in his house but also on his ex-girlfriend Lisa (Simone Joy Jones). Carlton gets so mad when he sees them talking he gets into a fight with his cousin, and that is the beginning of their war. And Uncle Phil is not going to have it, but even he can’t get these two to get along.
And then the biggest character difference goes to Geoffrey (Jimmy Akingbola). I am not going to tell you how, but I love what they did to him.
I also like the changes they made to the Will/Carlton dynamic. It gets more interesting as the show goes on. This is not Alfonso Ribeiro’s Carlton. He is dark. And I have said too much.
What I will say, is that this is not your parents’ Fresh Prince. Not only did they turn it into a drama, but they modernized it. What Will went through in the ’90s is not the same as today. So they updated everyone’s storyline but still kept that premise of the original. So it is loyal but fitting for today’s audience. Because of that, new and old fans are going to be hooked.
Peacock needs this to do well, and it is going to do just that. People are going to love the series, and they are going to want to stream new episodes every Thursday. In fact, they are going to hate having to wait a week to find out what happened next.
I have seen six of the ten episodes, and I am blown away by what they did. You can stream the first three episodes on Peacock now, and I promise you will love it as much as I do.
It is not only because of the storylines, but every actor brings it. It doesn’t even feel like they are acting. They feel like a family who are perfect on the outside but are far from it on the inside.
Bel-Air is the first remake to get it right. It is the same and different at the same time. It is everything you want it to be.
Well, it is just missing that theme song, but it has everything else.
Jada Pinkett-Smith showed up to the premiere of Peacock’s Bel-Air to support her husband, Will Smith. The first thing I noticed in this video from Variety of her on the red carpet is that she looks like a banana that is in the process of being peeled.
The jacket is bright yellow like the peel, and the suit is dull like the center of the fruit.
