‘THE Young and the Restless" has made soap history by revealing a leading character’s deep, dark secret: Brad Carlton is (gasp!) Jewish.

And when was the last time that happened in the soap universe?"When I opened the script and saw the character’s [real] name . . . I called the head writer and said, ‘So Brad’s a Jew?’ " says Don Diamont, who’s played Brad for 19 years (and yes, he’s Jewish in real life)."And she said, ‘Yeah, are you OK with that?’ and I said, ‘Of course. I’m Jewish. But what does this mean going forward?’"Genoa City is a very WASPy community and that’s not what we do here," Diamont says. "We do baptisms and christenings."Brad, "Y&R’s" resident womanizer, shocked viewers and the townsfolk of Genoa City by revealing in last Friday’s episode that he’s really George Kaplan, the son of an Italian-Jewish Holocaust survivor (played by "The Diary of Anne Frank" star Millie Perkins) who was forced to go into hiding and assume the "Carlton" alias (don’t ask).And now that Brad Carlton has been "outed" as a Jew, Diamont says "Y&R" viewers can expect to see him be more open about his heritage."The head writer [Lynn Latham] said that we needed to shake things up a bit so, going forward, George is going to acknowledge the High Holy Days and Passover," Diamont says.

I am not watching this sh!t, but this makes it sound hot. And I am not going off on actors on soaps because I do watch Days and GH, but we have to admit some of them are not the best.  

Rock Star: Supernova’s Brooke Burke and General Hospital’s Kelly Monaco are two of the beauties who will be on hand for a Tuesday mock-protest rally on behalf of NoScruf.org, an "organization" (read: Gillette promotional concept) out to stop the trend of scruffy-faced fellas. The fight-the-fuzz gathering will be held at 12:30 pm/ET in New York City’s Greeley Square, but be forewarned — out of protest, the gals are said to be growing out their own assorted follicles.

Genie Francis, 44, has agreed to reprise her popular role for a limited run beginning in October and lasting at least through the wedding anniversary date (Nov. 16). No details were available on what will prompt Laura to come out of her daze, which began after she killed her father, Rick.

Francis joined the soap at age 14, and last left in 2002 to relocate to London, where her director husband, Jonathan Frakes (Star Trek’s Commander Riker), shot 2004’s Thunderbirds. Francis, the mother of two children, had a small role in the film as an investigative reporter.

The wedding landed Francis and her co-star Anthony Geary (Luke) on the cover of Newsweek and attracted show fan Elizabeth Taylor to guest star as villainess, Helena Cassadine.

"I am very happy to be returning to my General Hospital family and look forward to portraying a role that means a lot to me as well as the fans who have supported the character throughout the years," says Francis, who currently resides with her family in Maine.

ABC is planning a huge promotional campaign to mark the milestone, with Francis also agreeing to appear on the ABC-owned SoapNet. "We are very excited about Genie’s return as we gear up to commemorate a quarter-century since the biggest milestone in the history of daytime television," said Disney ABC daytime president Brian Frons. "The return of Laura Spencer to the show’s canvas will solidify the show’s already strong and poignant storytelling."
