There was a time when it looked like the sands in the hourglass were done for Days of our Lives. However, the daytime drama has had a resurgence recently. So much so that Peacock is giving it a 5-episode limited season.
To make it even more enticing, they are bringing back names from the past. The first was announced today, and Lisa Rinna will be reprising her role as Billie Reed. Hopefully, they will find a way to get Peter Reckell and Kristian Alfonso to come out of soap opera retirement for it. How awesome would that be? We will always welcome Bo and Hope back with open arms.
Now that you know that some of our favorites will be back. I bet you want to know what they will be doing and who from the NBC soap will be appearing on it.
Over a long weekend, John & Marlena travel to Zurich, Ben & Ciara have a romantic getaway in New Orleans, Chad visits some old friends in Phoenix, and Abe, Paulina, Lani, and Eli vacation in Miami. All find themselves embroiled in a mystery involving stolen jewels which, in the wrong hands, could cause dire consequences for Salem. It’s a race against time for ISA agent Billie Reed as she crosses the globe in search of this missing treasure. Packed with all of the romance, action, drama, and surprises that only “Days of our Lives” can deliver, fans will spend a week with their favorite Salem supercouples and reconnect with many familiar faces along the way.
Are you as excited about this as I am? I hope it does well so that we can get more of these specials.
Lisa Rinna did an interview with PEOPLE in the 90s, and she talked about a show she was in that decade. They asked her what was her most surreal moment when she was on Days of our Lives, and she gave them a titillating answer.
“Having an affair with the guy who played my brother,” she said. “Well, not an affair, but a couple of one-night stands with the guy who [played] my brother. Patrick Muldoon and I had like, a thing.”
She is not the only star who can say that. Jennifer Aniston dated her TV brother Charlie Schlatter when they worked together on Ferris Bueller. Schlatter isn’t the only Ferris Bueller to do this; Matthew Broderick and Jennifer Grey also dated for a while.
Dexter’s Micahel C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter took it one step further and got married. And we can’t forget about the Brady Bunch kids or the teens from The Partridge Family.
However, Emily VanCamp gets the award for dating not one but two TV brothers. She dated Chris Pratt when they were on Everwood and Dave Annable on Brothers and Sisters, ironically enough. At least, she married her TV husband in real life, so there is that.
Back when AJ McLean was just a boy and not one of the Backstreet Boys, he watched Days of our Lives with his grandmother.
Now that he is old enough to drive, he got a drive-on so that he could play a driver on the daytime drama. He doesn’t care that it is just a bit role; he is just so happy to be on the show that meant so much to him when he was just a kid.
He concluded the video by saying that he hopes he made his grandmother proud. I am sure he did. How could he not?
This has been quite a week for Marla Gibbs. On Tuesday, the 90-year-old actress finally6 received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Today, Soap Opera Digest announced that she will be appearing on Days of our Lives starting on August 17th with her 227 co-star Jackée Harry.
“#DAYS fam, are ready to meet Paulina’s mother,” Harry wrote. “When your family’s around you, you’re never alone!”
That’s right, Maaaaaaaarrrrryyyy is going to play Sandra’s mom. I wonder how that conversation went? Did they have Harry call her to say, “Do you want to play my mom?”
I haven’t watched Days in a long time, but I am tuning in for this.
NBC announced today that Days of our Lives will be around for two more seasons.
“After more than 55 years of bringing drama, adventure and romance to screens around the world, we are thrilled and honored to carry on the ‘Days of our Lives’ legacy for another two years,” said executive producer Ken Corday. “We are thankful to NBC for their enduring commitment to the show and grateful to continue this wonderful journey with our fans for years to come.”
There was a time we thought that Soap Operas were on their way out, but they are still here, being watched by the most loyal of audiences. This is the toughest job in acting. However, if you can survive it, you can take on any role. Here is to DOOL launching even more careers in the business.
The renewal means the Daytime Drama will be around for at least 58 seasons. To give you a hint about how incredible that is. In December, they aired their 14,000th episode. Nowadays, dramas are lucky if they shoot 14-episode seasons. Now you see why I am saying it is the toughest job in showbiz.
