Tonight on TV Land’s Hot in Cleveland at 10p the girls set each other up on blind dates and Betty White gets a romantic date Carl Reiner. While the two 88 year olds really hit it off, things don’t seem to work out so well for Valerie Bertinelli, Wendie Malick and Janes Leeves. I can’t wait to see how their fix up work out because TV Land’s first original comedy has me laughing in hysterics every week! Seriously who else besides me is loving this show?
BTW Carl Reiner was on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson yesterday and he told him about a special bond he has with Betty White’s late husband that has him indebted to them forever.
UPDATE: Valerie Bertinelli Tweeted this picture of Carl Reiner, Betty White and Tim Conway together on the Hot in Cleveland set and it just makes me love TV Land even more because they are putting some of my favorite actors back on our TV screens. Seriously we need more shows cast our TV legends as guest stars because I think they can help save sitcoms by showing these younger actors how it should be done.
How hot was Hot in Cleveland for TV Land? It was so hot it made all the female leads hot flashes combined feel like the coldest day of winter in C-Town! But seriously the ratings for the premiere rocked like the town for TV Land because it gave them their highest rated show ever. Over 4.75 million people checked out Valerie Bertinelli, Wendie Malick, Jane Leeves and Betty White yesterday. How big were those numbers? HIC had more viewers than the repeats that aired on ABC and The CW last night did according to Zap2It, so those numbers are really impressive for TV Land’s first scripted show. Congrats to TV Land and Hot in Cleveland for proving that people do want to watch a show with actresses that are over 49!
If you missed the pilot you can catch it on TV Land throughout the week and you can watch new episodes every Wednesday at 10p!!!
TV Land is branching out from airing some of the best sitcoms ever made to creating one of their own. Tonight at 10p their first scripted show Hot in Cleveland will be heating up the airwaves and will instantly become a classic like the shows that already air on the network.
Hot in Cleveland is about three LA women a former Soap star (Wendie Malick), a recent divorce’/author (Valerie Bertinelli) and an eyebrow professional to the stars (Jane Leeves) who decide to take a trip to Paris. When the plane that they are on has to make an emergency in Cleveland the BFFs explore the city and they find out C-Town is so much different than Los Angeles. They don’t have to starve themselves so guys can ignore them for girls half their age, so they eat, drink and enjoy some Cleveland men. Valerie loves the city (and men) so much that she decides to rent a house there, only problem it comes with a caretaker played by Betty White. She is a wise cracking old woman you shouldn’t like, but she is Betty White and you are going to love her and her track suits! When Valerie’s friends realize she is going to stay, they decide to join her for a month and experience a life they never knew existed and along the way we will get a lot laughs!
I love Betty White, and if she gets you to tune in to this brilliant show than that is wonderful because it is a show worthy of her. But she is not the only star on the show and the three other TV icons are just as good and lovable on the show. I have to admit I have watched the pilot a few times (because I love it that much) and the first few times I was so fixated how Valerie doesn’t look anywhere near 50, in fact she looks exactly like she did during the final years of One Day at a Time. Once I got past that, I found myself loving her just as much as I did when she was on the show we got introduced to her in. She is just so cute. And she is not alone Jane Leeves is just so funny and so different than she was on Frasier and it works for her on this show. Wendie Malick always makes impression and stands out and on this show she does the same. And Betty is well Betty! The chemistry between the four of them is something you can’t make up and the writing will have you hooked from the first laugh which is as soon as the show starts.
Hot in Cleveland sincerely reminds me of another show I love love love and that show is The Golden Girls. I am not saying that because Rose Nylund is on the show, but because the writing, acting and chemistry is the same appeal to people of all ages and sex and it has exact feel I got when I saw that show for the first time. I went to taping on Friday of HIC and the closeness you see between the four of them on the tube is exactly what you see in person. Wendie Malick said there is a “167 years of experience between them” granted 100 of them are Betty’s! Joking, but seriously how many shows can say that with just 4 leads? And how many shows can say that they have four women who have been on some of the biggest and most well known shows of all-time. Not many, and 20 years down the line when Betty is doing yet another sitcom we will be saying what a classic show this one was for Betty, Valerie, Jane and Wendie and it still makes you laugh all these years late!
So don’t miss out on the show that everyone is talking about and watch Hot in Cleveland tonight and every Wednesday 10p with anyone and everyone! I can’t tell you how many people have said to me they can’t wait for this show and all I will summarize this by saying good things come to those who wait!!!
Betty White was on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and she told him she took a job as a referee for the World Cup because she needs the money to pay for medical bills because she is getting surgery this weekend. But before you get worried about the 88 year old Golden Girl, she is only getting breast implants! I don’t think she needs them, but hey it is true it could help with her career’s longevity and after over 60 years in the business we all know she needs whatever she can do to keep it going. Plus if she does get a boob job, maybe she would consider posing for Playboy. How hot would that be?
Actually what is really hot is her show Hot in Cleveland with Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves and Wendie Malick that premieres on TV Land tomorrow at 10p. I have seen the pilot and went to a taping on Friday and can I tell you this in the new Golden Girls! I am not just saying that because Miss Betty White is on it, but because the writing and chemistry is so freaking awesome. It really reminds of the brilliant and hysterical ’80s sitcom that won her a few Emmys. Just like Golden Girls heated things up for the already caliente Miami, Hot in Cleveland will, well, actually make Cleveland hot!!!
The cast of Bosom Buddies were reunited for the 8th Annual TV Land Awards to celebrate the show’s 30th Anniversary. Even though it has been 30 years since the show debuted Peter Scolari, Donna Dixon and Telma Hopkins all look as good as they did when they did the show in 1980! I got to speak to them on the red carpet and they told me about their fond memories of their days on the show. Find out who convinced the late Wendie Jo Sperber to go on a date with her future husband? Who drove to work with Tom Hanks every day? What classic show used the same sound stage as Bosom Buddies? It really explains why 30 years later we are still talking about this groundbreaking show. Also find out who was going to be reunited with Tom Hanks on the big screen, but because of scheduling conflicts had to drop out.
Thirty years later they are still going strong in the business and you can see Peter Scolari in the Off-Broadway show White Lies at New World Stages in NYC. Donna Dixon who took time off to be a mom to her three daughters with her husband Dan Aykroyd of nearly 27 years, is going to be working on documentary about Mongolia. Find out what it is about and if she has been there in the interview above. Telma Hopkins will be back on TV in June in Are We There Yet? on TBS in a role I know she had to do plenty of acting for because she is so not like her character.
You can watch these three cast members from Bosom Buddies reunite with Tom Hanks and Holland Taylor at the 8th Annual TV Land Awards tonight at 9p on TV Land when they accept their award honoring the show for turning 30!
Side note: I had such a huge crush on Peter Scolari when I watched him on Bosom Buddies, that I was so excited to finally meet him! After the interview he gave me a kiss and I will never watch that cheek again. Actually I have, but seriously it was so cool to meet my TV crush and have him still be a cool guy!
