September 7th, 2006 under Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: none ]

A second sequel is planned for the Hollywood comedy ‘Legally Blonde,’ but Reese Witherspoon, the star of the first two films, won`t be in the third. About the time ‘Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde’ was released, Witherspoon had been having discussions about the role, but she was involved with another film project, possibly ‘Walk the Line,’ moviehole.net reported. The third ‘Blonde’ might be set in London, but no casting decisions have been announced.

The Hollywood Reporter says that The Weinstein Company has acquired the rights to produce an animated version of The Nutty Professor, which will be distributed direct-to-video by Genius Products.Jerry Lewis will lend his voice to at least two characters in the project, which Mainframe Entertainment is producing and animating.Lewis starred in, wrote, directed and produced a series of films for Paramount in the 1960s, and the rights to several, including 1963’s The Nutty Professor, reverted back to him. That allowed him to license the rights to Universal for its 1996 remake starring Eddie Murphy and its 2000 sequel. The rights had since reverted back to him, paving the way for the deal with the Weinsteins.

Rob Zombie to destory Halloween
August 7th, 2006 under Halloween (movies), Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: none ]

Rob Zombie is directing a remake of the 1978 horror classic ‘Halloween’. The film will be released in the US on October 19, 2007 and will be his directorial follow up to 2005’s ‘The Devil’s Rejects’ and 2003’s ‘House of 1000 Corpses’. The former White Zombie singer said that the film would not just be a remake of the original. He told Yahoo: "I basically went back and just came up with the idea of basically – not essentially a remake, but a very extended prequel sort of combined with an update, say, of the first film."You’re starting from scratch but in sort of a more detailed way. That’s the way I thought it would be exciting for fans of the original, because it’s not just the same old thing, and it would be.

NME

I hate artsy horror, horror is not artsy, arsty films are a horror for me to watch. I tried to do either Devil’s or 1000 Corpses, but after 10 minutes I had to shut that crap off. And I watch cheesey awful horror movies.

J-Lo out of Dallas
August 3rd, 2006 under J-Lo, Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: none ]

Debbie may do Dallas, but Jennifer Lopez won’t. The Enough star has pulled out of the now slightly less star-studded big screen remake of the ’80s TV hit, with nary an explanation regarding her departure. "She is out of Dallas," Lopez’s publicist, Leslie Sloane-Zelnick, said Thursday, denying reports that her client’s exit was an abrupt without shedding light on the reason for her decision to cut and run.No potential replacements have been named.Marc Anthony’s better half was set to star as the adulterous and alcoholic Sue Ellen Ewing in the film adaptation opposite would-be celluloid hubby John Travolta, who is set to play the oil tycoon J.R. Ewing, filling the shoes of original TV star Larry Hagman.Lopez’s exit is not the remake’s first big-name drop out. Legally Blonde’s Robert Luketic, who more recently directed Lopez in Monster-in-Law, was originally slated to direct the film before dropping out this spring, citing "creative differences," amid reports that he was unhappy with the direction of casting. Which, incidentally, was mostly done by him.

Why, oh why are they remaking Adventures in Babysitting with Raven?
July 11th, 2006 under Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: none ]

Raven-Symone, star of "That’s So Raven," is attached to star in the Walt Disney Pictures remake of "Adventures in Babysitting." Symone also has signed an acting and producing deal with Disney that includes a guaranteed pay or play on one movie, with an option for a second. It is uncertain whether "Babysitting" will be part of that deal. The 1987 "Babysitting," which starred Elisabeth Shue, followed a high school senior who gets stuck baby-sitting a bunch of kids. The dull night is interrupted when she gets a call for help from a friend stuck downtown, leading her and the kids into a night of misadventures. The movie marked the directorial debut of Chris Columbus.
