Leonardo DiCaprio entering The Twilight Zone
July 26th, 2008 under Leonardo DiCaprio, Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: none ]

Leonardo DiCaprio is close to bringing his favorite show The Twilight Zone to the big screen according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The studio and production company are quietly putting out word to creators that they are looking for pitches and script ideas based on the show for feature development.
The companies are not seeking to remake an episodic movie, as the only big-screen version of the show did 25 years ago, but rather hope to build one continuing story line based on one or more episodes.
Warners is negotiating for rights to the Rod Serling-penned episodes,

I wonder if M Knight Shyamalan is going to pitch something for this because his movies are more like Twilight Zone episodes than feature length films.
Hopefully since The Twilight Zone is one of Leo’s favorite shows, that he will do it justice when he brings it to the big screen.

Now they are bringing back RoboCop
July 25th, 2008 under Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: 1 ]

MGM is bringing RoboCop into the new millennium according to The Hollywood Reporter. Not much more is known, but Darren Aronofsky will direct. Why him, he is such an odd choice. I was kind of excited for the movie because I liked the original movies, but with him as director it is off my maybe-see list. Maybe I am so negative about it because I hated Requiem for a Dream and the way it was shot.

MTV remaking The Rocky Horror Picture Show
July 24th, 2008 under Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: none ]

MTV is destroying, I mean remaking, The Rocky Horror Picture Show according to Variety. They will keep to the original 1975 movie, but they will add some music that didn’t make the first movie.
No cast has been announced, but if I could cast it…John Mayer or Justin Timberlake as Dr. Frank-N-Furter (I apologize to Tim Curry for suggesting them, but who doesn’t want to see those guys his outfits) seriously I would cast Craig Bierko as Dr. Frank-N-Furter, Zac Efron and Mandy Moore as Brad and Janet, Tim Curry as Dr. Everett Von Scott, Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson as Magenta and Columbia and of course Meat Loaf as Eddie!!!
They are trying to get this on the network a year from Halloween. I am not sure what is scarier…Halloween or the fact that MTV is remaking this midnight classic!!

Top Gun 2?
July 21st, 2008 under Stupid Sequels/Remakes, Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes/Suri. [ Comments: 9 ]

Movie bosses want to bring Top Gun back to the big screen, but only if Tom Cruise says yes according to The Sun.

A script outline has been written, but the sequel depends on Cruise, 46, saying yes.
An insider said: “The idea is Maverick is at the Top Gun school as an instructor — and this time it is he who has to deal with a cocky new female pilot.”

I think if they did this movie 10 years ago, it could have been a hit. But so much stuff has happened with Tom Cruise’s career and personal life, that this movie doesn’t have a chance. I loved Top Gun, but I don’t want to see Tom Cruise do it again.

MGM is remaking the 1983 movie Valley Girl in to a musical movie according to Variety. The original ’80s music from the movie will play a part in the new adaptation.

Here is the Valley Girl soundtrack tack listing:
1. A Million Miles Away – The Plimsouls
2. Johnny, Are You Queer? – Josie Cotton
3. Eyes Of A Stranger – Payolas
4. Angst In My Pants – Sparks
5. Who Can It Be Now? – Men At Work
6. Everywhere At Once – The Plimsouls
7. I La La La Love You – Pat Travers’ Black Pearl
8. He Could Be The One – Josie Cotton
9. Love My Way – Psychedelic Furs
10. Jukebox (Don’t Put Another Dime) – The Flirts
11. The Fanatic – Felony
12. She Talks In Stereo – Gary Myrick & The Figures
13. Oldest Story In The World – The Plimsouls
14. School Is In – Josie Cotton
15. I Melt With You – Modern English

Normally I hate remakes of movies, but I am actually like excited for this one. The music was so much fun and it could actually work if the movie is done right. It would be totally awesome if they like cast Nicolas Cage as the dad, don’t you like think?
Blogger note: When I saw this movie as a kid, I so wanted to be a Valley Girl and now I am one!!! Like wow!
