 Eddie Murphy shocked everyone when he claimed that the baby his ex-girlfriend Mel B is currently carrying was not his. He announced his split from the former Spice Girl on TV and at the same time insinuated that the baby was not even his. However, Murphy’s reasons have now come to light; after becoming convinced that Mel B was cheating on him he hired private detective to follow her around, they then saw Mel meeting up with a male friend in Los Angeles, a meeting that convinced Murphy she was cheating. Murphy is now demanding that Mel B’s baby have a DNA test as soon as it is born to determine the paternity of the child. A friend of Murphy’s told the News of the World: "Eddie had his suspicions that Mel was becoming close to a guy he knows. He was furious when he saw the pictures. "It does on the face of it seem spiteful to now doubt that he’s the father of the baby, but as far as he’s concerned he’s been humiliated too. He’s just evening the score."

Mel B only found out Eddie Murphy had dumped her after being told by friends. The former Spice Girl, who was on a US flight when Eddie told the world their relationship was over, heard the news from worried pals after she had landed. Mel, better known as Scary Spice, admits she is "shell-shocked" by the news. She told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: "I’m shell-shocked by the whole thing. As far as I was concerned we hadn’t really broken up – we’d just had a bit of a row." Mel – who is five months pregnant – also insists the ‘Shrek’ star is definitely the father of her unborn baby, despite him saying he is going to request a paternity test when the child is born She added: "There’s no question that Eddie is the father of my baby. I haven’t been with anyone else since Eddie." Eddie’s friends have suggested his mother was a big factor in the break-up because she didn’t approve of Mel and "was suspicious she got pregnant so quickly after they met". Eddie was asked about his relationship with Mel on Dutch TV show ‘RTL Boulevard’ earlier this week. He angrily replied: "You’re being presumptuous, because we’re not together anymore. And I don’t know whose child that is, until it comes out and has a blood test. You shouldn’t jump to conclusions, sir." It seems Eddie has found a new love already. Tracey Edmonds, film producer and ex-wife of singer Kenneth ‘Babyface’ Edmonds, claims they have been dating for "about a month and a half".

 Geri Halliwell has pointed the finger at former bandmate Mel B for preventing the rumoured Spice Girls reunion for Live8 from taking place. "We were all ready apart from Mel B," explained Ginger Spice in an interview with OK! magazine. "Victoria said maybe it’s time to move on and I think she’s got a point." However, Halliwell – now mother to a six-month old daughter – refused to definitively quash all hope of a future reunion: "Maybe it’s better to keep the Spice Girls as a memory but never say never. A taxi driver said to me we could still do a reunion even if one of us didn’t want to do it."

MEL B’s romance with Eddie Murphy took another twist yesterday when sources close to the couple claimed she was pregnant. Pals of showbiz’s odd couple said the baby was conceived almost as soon as their relationship began and the former Spice Girl is four months gone. The couple are said to be delighted with the news and Mel "hasn’t stopped grinning" since she found out. She returned to Leeds last week to see her family and appeared to have a slight bump. She is now back in Los Angeles amid rumours she is set to have the comedian’s baby. An LA source said yesterday: "People have heard she is about four months pregnant, which is about as long as their relationship has been going on.

Emma, better known as Baby Spice, 30, is to ask ex-bandmates Geri Halliwell, Victoria Beckham, Mel B and Mel C to sing their 1997 No1 hit 2 Become 1 on her big day. Advertisement Emma – a favourite to win the latest series of BBC1’s Strictly Come Dancing – weds boyfriend of eight years, Jade Jones, 34, next March. A friend of Jade’s said: "Emma is still good friends with all the girls. "She’ll definitely have them at the wedding and wants them to do one of their hits at the reception. "From what I’ve been told Emma wants to ask the girls when she sees them all again." The Spice Girls – Baby, Ginger, Posh, Scary and Sporty – have not sung together since Geri left in 1998. The rest of the band split in 2001.
