Who had an earthquake during a hurricane in Southern California on their bingo card?
August 20th, 2023 under SOW Greetings. [ Comments: none ]

So, we here in Los Angeles, have been preparing for Hurricane Hilary. That’s right, a hurricane in Southern California. So our phones have been blowing up with alerts.

Then around 2:30p, we got one that read, “Earthquake detected! Drop, Cover, Hold On. Protect Yourself.” It was like, really? What else? I don’t want to know at this point because this is a lot.

While I didn’t feel the 5.1 quake that was centered in Ojai, my poor cat freaked out just like our friend Juan Fernandez on KCAL. Poor Juan always gets caught live on the air with earthquakes. And I remember the days when he was covering hurricanes in Miami. Talk about life full circle.

Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow
February 2nd, 2023 under Punxsutawney Phil, SOW Greetings. [ Comments: none ]

Today is Groundhog’s Day, the day we celebrate the Bill Murray movie, which turned 30. It is also the day that Punxsutawney Phil comes out of a tree and tells us if we are going to have six more weeks of winter or less.

If he sees his shadow, then winter will be with us for six more long weeks. So did he see it? Does anyone know what a groundhog tastes like to eat?

This is the coldest winter I have experienced in LA since I moved here in 2001. I don’t like it. There is a reason why I moved to sunny California, and so far this year, I am getting the weather I grew up with in NYC. Their winter is even warmer than ours this year.

That’s it. I want some groundhog jerky, and I want it now! If Punxsutawney Phil is going to be a jerk about the weather, then he can be made into jerky.

Happy Groundhog’s Day! Can we redo it so that that furry little thing doesn’t see his shadow?
