Three years ago, Hollywood was shocked when Shonda Rhimes announced that she was leaving ABC for Netflix. Now, she is talking to The Hollywood Reporter, and she told them why she left such a lucrative deal.
Rhimes produced some of ABC’s most talked-about shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice, but she was frustrated with the behind the scenes BS coming from the network. They wanted to limit her budget on the dramas. She didn’t like the changes they wanted to make to her scripts. She was tired of the battles.
Then it came time to negotiate a new deal. Her lawyers were going back and forth, and she knew there was going to be a breaking point. She just never expected it to be what it turned out to be.
She had an all-inclusive pass to Disneyland for herself and her nanny. During one outing, she wanted a pass for his sister so that she could watch her teenager while the nanny watched Rhimes’ two other little ones. She thought it was handled until she got to the park. That is when she found out there was no pass for her sister.
Rhimes picked up her phone, called an executive, and asked if he could help her out. She says he told her, “Don’t you have enough?”
That was when she had enough of ABC, called her lawyer, and told him to get her deal at Netflix. The rest is Hollywood history.
ABC announced last week that we will finally get new epsiodes of their sitcoms starting on October 21st. Today, they revealed that their dramas will be back in November.
In case you are wondering, The Rookie was not cancelled like Stumptown. Instead, it will be back at a later date. I assume, they are saving it for American Idol, which would be a smart move.
For 16 seasons, Ellen Pompeo has played a doctor on television in Grey’s Anatomy. This season means even more to the actress because of everything that is going on in the world with the coronavirus pandemic.
“First time back in my scrubs… since we shut down filming 7000 healthcare workers have died from Covid.” Then Pompeo added, “I dedicate my season 17 to all who have fallen and to everyone of you who by the grace of God is still standing… this season is for you with humility and a bit of humor to get us through and endless amounts of gratitude. I hope we do you proud 🙏🏼”
If she really wanted to “make them proud,” then she would donate some of her money to those workers who are struggling to feed their families on the salary they make saving lives while she makes millions of a dollars a year pretending to do so.
Grey’s Anatomy was at its best when McDreamy and McSteamy were both on the show. While they might no longer be on the soapy drama, that doesn’t mean they still aren’t friends.
Yesterday, the two of them went for a hike, and we got this photo from it. Who doesn’t want to be the woman that is in the middle of their social distancing?

Before Chandra Wilson on a surgeon on Grey’s Anatomy, she was a cop on Sex and the City. She looks the same now as she did when she was 32 in that 2002 episode.
