TR Knight outs Isaiah Washington
February 19th, 2007 under Shonda Rhimes. [ Comments: none ]

Grey’s Anatomy star T.R. Knight admitted on Wednesday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show that costar Isaiah Washington did, in fact, call him a “f@ggot” during an onset fight. It was reported in October that Washington used the slur against Knight in front of the cast and crew while arguing with fellow cast member Patrick Dempsey. “He referred to me as a f@ggot,” Knight confirmed on DeGeneres’ morning talk show. “Everyone heard it.” Knight has mainly been silent on the incident, but decided to set the record straight after Washington tried to deny the October episode in the Golden Globes press room Monday night. "I did not call T.R. a f@ggot," he said. "Never happened, never happened." After speaking in the press room, Washington denied the epithet again to Access Hollywood. "There is no way I could do anything so vile, and so horrible, not only to a castmate, but to a fellow human being," he said. "It did not happen.” But Knight tells another story on DeGeneres. The talk show host said Wednesday, “And then the other night at the Golden Globes I guess Isaiah Washington is starting up the whole thing up again which is kind of crazy…” ”Yeah, he denied that he said it (f@ggot),” Knight responded, “and I don’t know what to say about it but it’s pretty bad.” Washington’s press room denial also infuriated Grey’s cast member Katherine Heigl, who reproached her costar during an interview with Access Hollywood Monday night. "I’m going to be really honest right now, he needs to just not speak in public. Period. I’m sorry, that did not need to be said, I’m not okay with it." "I have no idea what it was, I just find it hurtful,” she told Access. “I don’t think he (Washington) means it the way he comes off… But, T.R. is my best friend. I will throw down for that kid. I will beat you up. I will use every ounce of energy I have to take you down if you hurt his feelings."

Either Isaiah Washington is the biggest schmuck on TV or he was on something on Monday because his comments before and after were way beyond stupid. I am not defending him, but he obviously has issues, it is really sad.

ABC addresses Isaiah Washington’s comments
February 19th, 2007 under Shonda Rhimes. [ Comments: none ]

"We have a long-standing policy to create and maintain respectful workplaces for all our employees. We dealt with the original situation in October, and thought the issue resolved. Therefore, we are greatly dismayed that Mr. Washington chose to use such inappropriate language at the Golden Globes, that he himself deemed ‘unfortunate’ in his previous public apology. We take this situation very seriously, and his actions are unacceptable and are being addressed."

So who thinks his character will be killed off for May sweeps?

Isaiah Washington apologizes
February 19th, 2007 under Shonda Rhimes. [ Comments: none ]

“I apologize to T.R., my colleagues, the fans of the show and especially the lesbian and gay community for using a word that is unacceptable in any context or circumstance.  By repeating the word Monday night, I marred what should have been a perfect night for everyone who works on Grey’s Anatomy.  I can neither defend nor explain my behavior.  I can also no longer deny to myself that there are issues I obviously need to examine within my own soul, and I’ve asked for help.

I know the power of words, especially those that demean.  I realize that by using one filled with disrespect I have hurt more than T.R. and my colleagues.   With one word, I’ve hurt everyone who has struggled for the respect so many of us take for granted.  I welcome the chance to meet with leaders of the gay and lesbian community to apologize in person and to talk about what I can do to heal the wounds I’ve opened.

T.R.’s courage throughout this entire episode speaks to his tremendous character.  I hold his talent, and T.R. as a person, in high esteem.  I know a mere apology will not end this, and I intend to let my future actions prove my sincerity.”

Sure those are his words…that is his people trying to save his career. When do you think he will do a Mel Gibson like interview on Diane Sawyer?

Showdown on the set of Grey’s Anatomy today?

Isaiah Washington may have finally issued a public apology for his homophobic rhetoric regarding Grey’s Anatomy castmate T.R. Knight, but it certainly doesn’t end there. A well-placed source just told me that Washington will have a face-to-face sit down with the entire Grey’s cast tomorrow where his coworkers plan to tell him how they feel about his behavior. "It’s a meeting so he can hear them all out," my source says. "And it will go on as long as it needs to go." My source says ABC executives are not expected to attend. Meanwhile, it’s no surprise that the battle is on to land the first post-apology interview with Washington. And if and when that happens, count on it being with an ABC news outlet. Chances are it will come down to either Barbara Walters or Diane Sawyer, and my source predicts that Sawyer will score. "If he does go on TV, don’t be surprised if he ends up on Good Morning America," my source says. "But he’s not doing anything until this is all straightened out."

Planet Gossip

Oh to be a fly on that wall because when that cast and him finally talk to the press everything will be honky doory and they will all love each other. Just like when they explained how everything was on the set after the initial incident.
