On Thursday, Scandal will celebrate its 100th episode, but would it have gotten there if someone other than Kerry Washington was playing the lead? The show’s creator Shonda Rhimes opened up to The Hollywood Reporter and revealed the network was fixated on someone else for the role of Olivia Pope.
Rhimes wanted an Africa-American in the role, like the real life person it is based on, but ABC wanted someone White. Well, particularly one actress. Rhimes told the trade, “Nothing felt more important than the sense of outsiderness. I didn’t know that there hadn’t been a drama series with a leading black woman for 37 years. When the show got picked up [to pilot], I got a phone call from somebody who said, ‘This would be the perfect show for Connie Britton.’ I said, ‘It would be, except Olivia Pope is Black.'”
Then Casting Director Linda Lowry chimed in and added, “The network was reading us their top choices, and it was Connie and all White women. I panicked. Somebody finally piped up, ‘We’re going to have to redo this list.'” That list got redone and Kerry Washington, Jill Scott and Anika Noni Rose all read for the part. Lowry said that as soon as Rhimes met Washington, she had her Pope and the rest is TV history.
Even though, I no longer watch Scandal, I know the show would not still not be on the air if Britton had been given the role. She doesn’t have that fighter, tough-as-nails spirit that Washington has that makes the show what it is.
What do you think the network’s decision wanting to cast Britton in the role?
Remember when Scott Foley was on Grey’s Anatomy and he died? Well, he told James Corden on The Late Late Show that they made a cast of his dead head to make his death scene look more realistic. The real cost of a prosthetic head is a lot of money, so they kept his around just in case they needed it. Thus, whenever most people die on the nighttime medical soap, you will see a familiar face. His.
I would scream Scandal if they did not pay each time they used it because in a way it is like he was on the show again. I mean, isn’t giving good head a requirement when someone is looking for a job in Hollywood? Or does that have a different meaning then the one I was told that it means?
Camilla Luddington is pregnant with her first child at the same time Beyonce is pregnant with second and third children, and her Grey’s Anatomy co-star decided to commemorate it the same way as the singer did. Meredith Grey got behind the camera and directed her friend in a photoshoot just like the one that Beyonce’ did to announce the news.
You know, maybe it’s time for the ABC medical drama to become a comedy because this is hilarious!
For almost 10 years, Sara Ramirez had the same hairstyle on Grey’s Anatomy. Now that she is no longer on the medical drama, she has a whole new hairdo. Gone is the shoulder length locks and say hello to a short sleek do. With her face, she can carry off any look she wants.
If you don’t like it, don’t worry because she says that she has fast growing hair.
Ellen Pompeo plays a doctor on Grey’s Anatomy and she might need a real one due to what another actor, who plays a doctor on that TV Primetime Soap, did to her. That’s because Jesse L Williams caused her to wipe out when he unsuspectingly pushed the paddleboard she was standing on. She claims it was retaliation for talking too much smack about him, but is it fair that he made her smack the water? Considering how cute she looked falling backwards and she wasn’t hurt, I say yes.
So the moral of the story is don’t talk bad about anyone who holds your life in balance. Or basically who is keeping you balanced. Unless you want to land on your a$$.
