When the screeners went out for Dads, the critics universally hated it. I was one of them who hated everything about it. Then I watched the rest of Fox’s new sitcoms and I realized it was their best new comedy. In fact after a second viewing I found myself actually liking it, so much so I now watch it every week.
Well turns out I am not alone because Fox ordered six more scripts from the freshman show according to Variety. While that doesn’t mean the show will make those episodes, there is a pretty good chance they will. Especially since they cancelled the midseason animated show Murder Police before it even aired, so they are going to need to keep something else on the air to fill the whole.
Seth MacFarlane’s new show, Dads, has rightfully been critically panned and looks like even his own dad, Ron MacFarlane, doesn’t want to be associated with it. His proud pop Tweeted, “Seth’s new show, ‘Dads’ is not about me.” That is a good thing because when you see the show, you will see that no man wants to be seen as the inspiration for the title roles.
Dads is seriously one of the worst new shows of the upcoming season, but I am not sure it is the worst. Close, very very close.
TBS announced today that starting next season, American Dad will be airing new episodes there instead of on Fox. Seth MacFarlane’s show will air its 10th season on Fox and then begin it’s 11th on TBS late next year.
Which makes me think that Fox is so pissed at Seth MacFarlane for Dads that they’re sending American Dad to another network as punishment. Not that I have a problem with it because I think it is better fit for the animated sitcom.
Seth MacFarlane hosted the Oscars this year and right afterwards said he wouldn’t do it again. Then when it was announced that the producers were returning to do the Academy Awards again, it was said that Ted’s voice would also be back. Well today the man, who has two shows on the air with the word Dad in the title even though he isn’t one, Tweeted that he won’t be doing it. He said “Traumatized critics exhale: I’m unable to do the Oscars again. Tried to make it work schedule-wise, but I need sleep. However, I highly recommend the job, as Zadan and Meron are two of the most talented producers in the business. My suggestion for host is Joaquin Phoenix.” I like the idea of hosting instead, what about you?
Now when it comes to Seth not doing the show again, I am OK with it because I wasn’t as impressed with him as I was with other things he has done. He was on a leash and because of that he tried to hard to break free.
Just over 24 hours after Seth MacFarlane hosted the Oscars, he let us know whether he would do it again. When CrusePhoto asked him on Twitter, “Would you host the #Oscars again if asked?” He Tweeted back, “No way. Lotta fun to have done it, though.”
Do you think the Academy would’ve asked him back? When it comes to the recent hosts he wasn’t as awful as Anne Hathaway and James Franco, but he wasn’t as great as when Billy Crystal was at his best or Hugh Jackman.
It is a tough job and I get why so many people would never do it again. Even the most confident come off as nervous their first time around because imagine the pressure of it all. None of them will ever have that large of an audience again and it is live so that means no do overs!
