Jim Gaffigan is perfect as Tim Walz!

Saturday Night Live was back with all new episodes yesterday, and a lot happened since their last episode aired in May.

Joe Biden decided not to run for President again, and Kamala Harris took his place. She needed someone to run with her, and she picked Tim Walz. That meant that SNL needed to find actors to play them all.

The show already announced that Maya Rudolph will play the next President of the United States. And last night, the Variety show added a slew of ready-for-primetime players to take on the other roles.

Andy Samberg is Kamala’s right-hand man, her husband is Doug Emhoff. And for her running mate, they went with Jim Gaffigan. He is just as perfect as when Tiny Fey as Sarah Palin, Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump, and Larry David as Bernie Sanders. Finally, they got George Bush to take on President Joe Biden. Sorry, I mean Dana Carvey is back spending his Saturday nights as the President of the United States at 30 Rock.

What a way to start the 50th season! I can’t wait to spend the next few weeks with them!

Is Lorne Michaels retiring after this season?

For the last few years, we have been hearing rumors that Lorne Michaels is retiring from Saturday Night Live after the show’s 50th season.

Well, on October 5th, the late night Variety series begins its 50th season. So, The Hollywood Reporter wanted to know if this is the creator’s last season.

“I think the times, and also there are not many network shows left, and this one has taken on [an importance]. It’s more about keeping it on course than anything else, and, obviously, I really love it,” he told the trade magazine. “And every year there are more and more people that I rely on for other things, but, in the end, you really need someone to say, ‘This is what we’re doing.’ So, I don’t really have an answer; I just know that this is kind of what I do and as long as I can keep doing it, I’ll keep doing it. There’s no immediate plan.”

I have a feeling he will be running SNL until he dies, producing an episode while it is live on the air.

I wonder how Tina Fey feels about this news. The rumor is that she was going to take over for him. Iuess those plans are on hold.

Saturday Night Live reveals its first five hosts and musical guests!
September 18th, 2024 under Ariana Grande, Designing Women, Jelly Roll, Michael Keaton, Saturday Night Live. [ Comments: none ]

Saturday Night Live is going into its 50th season. And now we know who are the first five celebrities hosting the late night variety show and the musical guests who will be supporting them.

Sept. 28 – Jean Smart / Jelly Roll

Oct. 5 – Nate Bargatze / Coldplay

Oct. 12 – Ariana Grande / Stevie Nicks

Oct. 19 – Michael Keaton / Billie Eilish

Nov. 2 – John Mulaney / Chappell Roan

I have some ideas for SNL! For week one, they should have a Designing Women sketch with Annie Potts and Delta Burke reprising their roles and Michael Myers as Linda Richman filling in for the late Dixie Cater as Julia Sugarbaker. Imagine the rants she could give in 2024.

Then, I would have Ariana Grande and Stevie Nicks sing Landslide as a duet. I would also like to see Nicks recreate the above bit! How funny would that be?

Which host are you most looking forward to?

SNL returns to NBC on September 28th.

Saturday Night Live loses another one, and gains three
September 10th, 2024 under Saturday Night Live. [ Comments: none ]

We are 18 days away from the start of Saturday Night Live’s 50th season on NBC. And yesterday we found out that Chloe Troast will not be part of the late night variety show.

She wrote, “Unfortunately i was not asked back to SNL this season. I wish i was going back to be with all the amazing friends i made there, it truly felt like home. But it wasn’t in the cards.” The comedian joined SNL last year.

She is the third Not Ready for Primetime Player who is not returning this season. Punkie Johnson and Molly Kearney are also departing the series.

The news isn’t all bad over at 30 Rock. Ashley Padilla, Emil Wakim, and Jane Wickline will be joining the cast later this month.

Saturday Night Live’s story is getting told on the big screen
August 8th, 2024 under Saturday Night Live. [ Comments: none ]

Saturday Night Live is turning 50 this season. And Jason Reitman is telling their story in the feature film Saturday Night.

At 11:30pm on October 11, 1975, a ferocious troupe of young comedians and writers changed television – and culture – forever. Directed by Jason Reitman and written by Gil Kenan & Reitman, Saturday Night is based on the true story of what happened behind the scenes in the 90 minutes leading up to the first broadcast of Saturday Night Live. Full of humor, chaos, and the magic of a revolution that almost wasn’t, we count down the minutes in real time until we hear those famous words…

After watching the trailer, I think it looks like it would be better for steaming than the big screen. But I could be wrong.

Saturday Night hits the theaters on October 11th.
