This holiday Roku Channel is giving us something to sing about and sing=along with. That is because they announced today that they are giving Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, the cancelled (way too soon) series, a Christmas movie with all of the original cast.

Creator Austin Winsberg said, “I am so extremely grateful to The Roku Channel for helping us get Zoey to sing again. I can’t think of a more appropriate time to hear someone’s heart song than the holidays. And Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas will be an opportunity to provide the fans and new viewers alike a chance to all tap their toes and get in the holiday mood. This show has always been about empathy, compassion and the triumph of the human spirit. The Roku Channel has sure lifted mine and I hope that our film can have the same effect on viewers everywhere…”

The holiday film will pick up where season two left off. It will be interesting to find out if Max (Skylar Astin) can still hear Zoey’s (Jane Levy) heart songs just like she has been hearing his and everyone else’s.

Along with the movie, all 25 episodes are coming to the Roku Channel this Fall. You don’t have to have a Roku to get the streaming service. Their app is available on Android, Apple, Firestick, and via their website.

Have you ever said that something looks good enough to eat and wanted to take a bite of it. Well, on Eye Candy, a Roku Original that is streaming now, you can do just that.

Josh Groban hosts the Japanese import, where a cake is made to look like ordinary household items. The contestants have to guess if something is the real thing or an edible copy.

Each episode has two teams go up against each other. Both teams consist of an average person and a celebrity like Jamie Chung, Bryan Greenberg, Rachel Dratch, Nina Agdal, Michael Ian Black, Aparna Nancheria, Ana Gasteyer, Tiki Barber, Bridget Everett, Caroline Manzo, Melissa Gorga, Michelle Buteau, Jeremy Jordan, and Nico Tortorella.

The game show only has two rounds. The first one is the Conveyer Belt Challenge. That is when an item goes down the conveyer belt, and the contestants have to guess if they are going to take a bite of something sweet or something hard. It sounds easy, but the delectable carbon copies are so well done, it is hard to tell. And the only way to tell is to take a huge bite. The first team to get two right moves on to the next round.

For the second and last round called Sweet Suite, they go into a room like a ’90s bedroom, a casino, or a hardware store and have to guess which three items are not what they appear to be. For each item they guessed correctly, they get a cash prize. The first one gets them $1,000, the second gets them up to $2,500 and if they get a third, then they go home with $5,000 and a cavity.

Season one consists of ten 9-minute episodes. After binging the program, I think all game shows should be this long. That means they are a third the length of your average game show, so you never get bored. That is why you can burn through them in the time it takes to watch an awful movie.

Now, let’s talk about the gameplay. It sounds easy, but even I couldn’t tell what was fake. That is what makes it so much fun. You get to cringe with them as they find out if they are about to sink their teeth into a jockstrap, a cigar, a jukebox, a cactus, or a cake. Their faces say it all when they find out the object’s fate.

After we find out if the item is scrumptious, then we get to see a video of how they made the yummy imitation. It is really neat to see it take life before it meets its death.

Something I hope this show doesn’t meet because 10 episodes are not enough sweetness. Especially since Groban is hosting, he was born to do this job with his quick wit and warm personality.

While four out of five dentists will hate this show, four out of five patients will love it.

We know that Josh Groban looks good enough to eat, and now he is hosting a game show on Roku where contestants have to figure out if they are given something they can eat. Eye Candy is based on a Japanese game show.

Grobs said, “I first saw this show in Japan when it was called Sokkuri Sweets and was obsessed with how fun and silly it was. To be the ring master of such insanity is a dream. Bon Appetit.”

In each of the 10 episodes, celebrities like Jamie Chung, Bryan Greenberg, Rachel Dratch, Nina Agdal, Michael Ian Black, Aparna Nancheria, Ana Gasteyer, Tiki Barber, Bridget Everett, Caroline Manzo, Melissa Gorga, Michelle Buteau, Jeremy Jordan, and Nico Tortorella will be teamed up with brave laypeople. Together, they will have to answer if a cake made to look like an ordinary item is edible or inedible. The winner, I guess the best way to say it is, will take the cake.

The good thing about Quibi is that we got a revival of Reno 911 out of it. The bad thing is we what they did to Princess Bride. Therefore Inigo Montoya said to them, “Hello! My Name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.” And now they are dead.

After just six months of being in business, they are shutting down. Even though they raised $1.75 billion and spent $63 million in advertising, they ran into a lot of problems. They were competing newbies against Disney+, Peacock, and HBO Max with extensive libraries. Then they launched at the beginning of the pandemic. My problem, which is why I never tried them for free, is they were not available on Amazon Fire. If I couldn’t get it on my TV, I didn’t want it. I was saving my tablet for full-length movies and TV shows. I don’t want to watch anything on my phone.

I was not alone. With all the money they spent on publicity, they only got 2 million subscribers. That was over 5 million less than they needed, according to Variety.

“While we have enough capital to continue operating for a significant period of time, we made the difficult decision to wind down the business, return cash to our shareholders, and say goodbye to our talented colleagues with grace,” said Meg Whitman, co-founder, in the statement. “We continue to believe that there is an attractive market for premium, short-form content. Over the coming months we will be working hard to find buyers for these valuable assets who can leverage them to their full potential.”

Weird Al Yankovic is known for parodying songs from famous singers. Now, he is dressing up as another Rocker for Reno 911. Weird Al is playing Ted Nugent on the Quibi series, and his episode is streaming now.

We don’t know why Weird Al is playing the gun-crazy singer, but you know he is going to do a bang-up job. Don’t shoot the messenger with bad jokes. I have a feeling the deputies of Reno’s sheriff’s office will protect me. Oh wait, that is a bad thing. No more bad jokes from me.

One thing that is not a bad joke is Reno 911’s revival.
