Last month, the Foo Fighters saw Rick Astley, whom they never met before, watching them backstage at a festival in Japan, and they invited him out to sing Never Gonna Give You Up with them. Since then the music world has been buzzing about it, wondering when they are going to get together again to Rickroll us. Yesterday we got that answer, when the Dave Grohl and his band were playing in London, and then their new best friend joined them on stage to sing that song again. Delighting fans of both musicians once again.
Now, we want to know when they are going to take the Bromance from the stage to the recording studio already. They need to record this version already because it will top the charts. Then they need to go on tour together. Hell, what about a reality show? I just love how they bring out the Rocker out of Astley!
Remember last month, when Rick Astley performed Never Gonna Give You Up with the Foo Fights at the Tokyo’s Summer Sonic festival and we thought it was pretty cool? Turns out that Rickroll was even more bitchin’ than we could have ever imagined.
Dave Grohl was on Hamish and Andy’s radio show via Skype and they asked them about that performance and Astley’s cursing on stage with them. Grohl then told the duo how the performance came about. They knew Astley was on the bill, but they missed his performance. Then when they were rehearsing, they were playing his biggest song and realized it sounded a lot like Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit. Which makes you wonder does Astley have a lawsuit on his hands?
Anyways, as the Fighters were performing, they saw Astley watching them from the side of the stage. Therefore, Grohl went up to him, introduced himself and vice versa. Then Grohl asked his new friend if he wanted to do that tune with them with their Grunge take on it and the rest is Rock history. What an awesome moment in Rock history it is?
So when Grohl said that he just met his new friend 2 minutes ago, he was literal. Seriously, Grohl is the coolest guy in Rock. Just when you think that he cannot be any more cooler, he does something like this. I just want to be friends with him for one night only. It would be one of the greatest night of my life and I would never forget about it for the rest of my life.
Remember when Foo Fighters took on that ridiculously hateful church group by Rickrolling them almost 2 years ago to the day? Well yesterday, the band Rick Rolled the Summer Sonic audience in Tokyo with Rick Astley singing his unforgettable hit Never Going to Give You Up and the band playing backup. Much to the delight of Foo Fighters, Astley, the audience and us! Forget the eclipse, this is the greatest thing you will see all day!
Hell, I would not be surprised if that version of the song with a little of Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit mixed in is released as a single. Sh!t, I would be surprised if the new friends go on tour together. Could you imagine what the audience would look like? It could bring peace between the Preppies and the Grungers! Are they fighting, or should I say Foo fighting?
Rick Astley has a new song out and that means he has a video to go with it. I don’t know what is going on in Dance, but I feel like I have been RickRolled.
And just because I have no idea what’s going on, doesn’t mean I don’t like it and the song. It kind of reminds me of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Musical episode and that was my favorite one in the series’ long run.
After watching his new music video do you want to be together forever with him or do you want to give him up?
When you think of Rick Astley, you don’t necessarily think of him rocking out to AC/DC. But that is exactly what he did during a show in Los Angeles yesterday, and he did it by banging on the drums (yes he drums) as he belted out Highway to Hell. You know what, I am Thurnderstruck by it.
It is a complete 360 from Never Gonna Give You Up and Together Forever, and I wouldn’t mind getting RickRolled by either song.
Do you prefer him as Adult Contemporary or Classic Rock?
