Orlando Bloom being written out of POTC4?
October 8th, 2006 under Pirates of the Caribbean. [ Comments: 3 ]

Orlando Bloom’s much-loved character in Pirates of the Caribbean will reportedly be killed off in the fourth installment of the Disney series, as producers struggle to "cut costs.” According to British newspaper reports, Bloom’s character Will Turner is deemed "not necessary" to the sea-faring saga, although his cast mates Keira Knightley and Johnny Depp are unaffected by the cutbacks. A Disney insider tells British newspaper The Daily Star Sunday, "Pirates of The Caribbean has proved a huge hit and made a fortune for everyone involved. "A huge chunk of that success is on the shoulders of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. Love interest Keira Knightley, who plays Elizabeth Swann is a huge hit. "But producers and directors are now trying to cut costs. Orlando Bloom has suffered as a result. "The script for the fourth Pirates movie is being worked on and all the finances are in place but it was decided Bloom’s character and a number of minor roles were not necessary to ensure it would be yet another box office smash for Disney."

I won’t miss him, now if it were Johnny Depp I would not go see the movie!

Keith Richards, drunk or lack of sea legs on the POTC3 set?
September 21st, 2006 under Pirates of the Caribbean, Rolling Stones. [ Comments: none ]

A not terribly sober Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones has filmed his cameo as Johnny Depp’s swashbuckling dad in "Pirates of the Caribbean 3," which is shooting somewhere in Southern California in a place called Palmdale. Last night at Premiere magazine’s decidedly swellegant Women in Hollywood Icon awards gala at the Beverly Hills Hotel, we heard a good story about Richards from gifted Brit actor Bill Nighy (you know him from playing a Richards like rock star in “Love Actually”). Nighy wasn’t on set when Richards came for his big Hollywood moment, but he more or less confirmed for us a tale we’d heard earlier. Richards, no stranger to substances and liquids, was left to his own devices in his trailer before his big scene. That wasn’t a good idea. When the time came to shoot, he was a bit “wobbly.” To keep him straight, director Gore Verbinski held Richards by the shins. “You’ve got to keep straight,” Verbinski told him. “If you’d wanted straight, then you got the wrong man,” Richards replied huskily. Richards’ pirate costume, sources say, closely resembles Depp’s, with a different colored bandana. The two had such a good time together that Depp kept a souvenir from Richards’ short visit: a set of stairs built for Richards to get in and out of his trailer, which he signed to Depp with the salutation, “A step too far.”

Sounds like it was an interesting day of filming!

Pirates of the Caribbean 4?
September 19th, 2006 under Pirates of the Caribbean. [ Comments: none ]

According to China Daily, “Pirates of the Caribbean : At Worlds End” will be the final instalment in the current ‘Pirates’ series, but that doesn’t mean Disney haven’t already decided to do more ‘Pirates’ films. Mark Zoradi, president of the Disney Motion Pictures Group said that the eagerly awaited third movie may not be the last Pirates film. "The third film… will conclude the initial Pirates trilogy, though it is unlikely to be the last Pirates sequel," says Zoradi.

Pirates of the Caribbean hits the magical $1 Billion mark!
September 6th, 2006 under Pirates of the Caribbean. [ Comments: none ]

Disney’s "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest" should join "Titanic" and "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" today as the only movies ever released to top $1 billion in worldwide grosses. The "Pirates" sequel has been out of the domestic top 10 for the past two weekends, but still managed to bring in $4.9 million during the Labor Day weekend to lift Stateside cume past $414 million — the sixth-highest on the all-time list.It is mainly recent foreign biz that’s pushed "Dead Man’s Chest" over the 10-figure mark. The pic’s remained dominant internationally with a nine-weekend winning streak and, as of Tuesday, had cumed around $583 million offshore. There’s no chance for "Dead Man’s Chest" to catch "Titanic," which stands at $1.83 billion, and it would need another $130 million to overtake "The Return of the King" at $1.13 billion.

So I wonder if Disney will announce more layoffs tomorrow?

ORLANDO Bloom pokes fun at Pirates of the Caribbean co-star Johnny Depp in the new series of Extras. In the first episode of Ricky Gervais’s award-winning BBC2 comedy he plays a vain actor who can’t believe that an extra doesn’t fancy him.Orlando tells the extra, played by TV comedy star Ashley Jensen, 36, the ladies were all over him on the film set, ignoring heart-throb Johnny. The Brit actor and Lord of the Rings star, 27, joked: "It’s my looks that all the girls fawn over. Nobody was bothered about Johnny on set."Johnny freak I make art-house movies and have stupid scissors for hands. Willy Wonka more like Johnny W***er."

Daily Mirror

I don’t know about you, but given the chance to choose between the two for a one night stand. . . it would be Johnny Depp hands down.  Seriously I can’t think of anyone who would choose Bloom over Depp, can you?
