Anthony Hopkins accepts his Oscar on social media
April 26th, 2021 under Anthony Hopkins, Oscars. [ Comments: none ]

Last night the Oscars saved Best Actor for last because they were convinced that the late Chadwick Boseman was going to win. He didn’t. Instead, the award went to Sir Anthony Hopkins, 83, who was not there and not on Zoom. That is because it was after 3a in Wales when they finally announced his award.

Therefore, he didn’t know until he woke up this morning that he earned his second Oscar statuette. As soon as the shock wore off, he recorded his acceptance speech. Just like everyone else, he was not expecting to win. However, he is grateful and thankful for the honor. You can see in the face of the man, who holds the title for the oldest actor to win that honor, how overjoyed that the Academy recognized him. So much so, he looked like a little boy in a candy shop.

Since he is a class act, he also wanted “to pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman, who was taken from us far too early.”

Only nominees, their guests and presenters can attend the Oscars

For months, the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences has been trying to figure out how to hold the Oscars on April 25th during a pandemic. They finally found a way, and yesterday they sent out a letter to their members. Most of whom will not be able to buy a ticket to the shindig.

That is because Academy President David Rubin said in the letter that was obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, “This year, those attending the awards in person will be nominees, their guest, and presenters.”

The Oscars will also be held at two different locations in Los Angeles, Union Station in DTLA and Dolby Theatre at Hollywood and Highland. I wonder if the winners are going to be at one location and the losers at the other? We will find out soon enough.

There was even more sad news for everyone. The Academy also canceled the “Oscar Nominees Luncheon and such beloved Oscar-week occasions as the International Feature Film nominee cocktail reception, and public programming for the Short Film, Documentary, Animated Feature, International Feature Film and Makeup and Hairstyling categories. I’m sorry to add that this year’s awards also will not include a post-Oscars Governors Ball celebration, or Oscar Night watch parties in London and New York.”

With all of that said, they promise it will be “an Oscars show like none other, to honor the extraordinary movies, memorable performances and achievements in filmmaking of the past year.”

That highly doubt. The nominations are a bunch of movies that no one has seen even though, most of them are available on streaming services for us to view.

Plus, there is no host. They need one to keep the madness sane for the viewer at home.

I have been saying and will continue to say; they should have just canceled this year’s show.

Are you going to watch it?

This is the closest Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra will get to an Oscar nom
March 10th, 2021 under Jonas Brothers, Oscars, Priyanka Chopra. [ Comments: 1 ]

Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra have some big news to share. No, they are not pregnant. No, they are not getting a divorce. So what is it? They are going to announce the Oscar nominations on Monday morning at 5:19a.

It is an interesting decision because when I think of Oscar movies, I think of them. No, I don’t. Have either of them been in a movie that was even close to getting an Oscar nom? Razzies, yes. Oscars, no.

If they wanted couples, why not go with Oscar winners Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones?

This makes no sense to me. Just like having an Academy Awards this year doesn’t make sense.

The Oscars will go on with an in-person audience
February 10th, 2021 under Oscars. [ Comments: none ]

We are still two months away from the Oscars, and today we learned more about what we can expect from Hollywood’s biggest night this unusual year.

“In this unique year that has asked so much of so many, the Academy is determined to present an Oscars like none other, while prioritizing the public health and safety of all those who will participate,” a spokesperson for the Academy said in a statement. “To create the in-person show our global audience wants to see, while adapting to the requirements of the pandemic, the ceremony will broadcast live from multiple locations, including the landmark Dolby Theatre. We look forward to sharing more details soon.”

Personally, I still think it is ridiculous for them to hold the Oscars. Not just because of the pandemic, but also because it was not a normal year for movies. No movie has been released nationwide side mid-March. Of the movies that will most likely get the noms, most people will not have seen them. I mean, worse than year’s past. Thus, I think it is a stupid idea.

However, doing it at different locations, so that the nominees from all over the world can attend without traveling, is a smart idea.

What would also be a smart idea is having a master of ceremonies to tie it all together. Without one, it is going to feel disjointed. I think someone that everyone loves would be a great host, someone like Tom Hanks or The Rock.

The Academy Awards will take place on April 25th.

Will Oscar attendees get the COVID-19 vaccine to attend?
December 29th, 2020 under Oscars. [ Comments: none ]

The Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences announced that this year’s Oscars will be an in-person event whether to coronavirus pandemic is over or not.

How are they going to do it safely? That is what they are considering now. According to Daily Mail, one of their options is that everyone who attends will have to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

There are many problems with that. I am sure several of the people will not be willing to get it because they are antivaccine. The other problem is, will the vaccine be ready to give to everyone to get their first dose by March 24th? I will go ballistic if they jump the line to get the shot while my loved ones and I will have to wait longer to receive it. I am sure I would not be the only one.

It would be another reason for people to hate Hollywood.

Plus, what is really the point of having them this year when almost all of the movie theaters will have been closed for 13 months on April 25th?

Would you mind if the Oscars took a year off? And how would you feel if Oscar attendees skipped the line to get the vaccine just to attend Hollywood’s biggest night?
