CBS announced today that they picked up television’s #1 drama, NCIS, for a 17th season. Not only does the show do well in first run on broadcast, but it also does well online and in syndication. Thus the renewal is no surprise. They just had to wait for Mark Harmon to say yes.
Now that he did, it will join Young Sheldon, Mom, Criminal Minds, FBI, God Friended Me, The Neighborhood And Magnum P.I. on the 2019-2020 schedule. That leaves a lot of shows in limbo like Bull, NCIS: LA, NCIS: NoLA, Blue Bloods and Hawaii Five-0. I think only Bull is in trouble of the ones I listed.
Last week, CBS announced that David James Elliott is going to reprise his JAG role on NCIS: LA in May. Today, they revealed that Catherine Bell will also be back as Mac for the season finale.
The episode is described as, “As the NCIS team tries to uncover a complicated network of ISIS sympathizers who look to be planning an attack on US aircraft carriers and possible worse, Hetty (Linda Hunt) has to call in a favor to an old friend, Lieutenant Colonel Sarah ‘Mac’ MacKenzie, to help get access to an elusive Russian diplomat.”
I wonder what that means for her and Navy Capt. Harmon Rabb Jr.? Are they still together? Do they work together? We will find out next month.
Now that the both of them are going to be on the spinoff of the show that spun off of JAG (Does that make sense?), I bet you a pretty penny if these episodes do well, then they are going to revive it. Do you want to see a JAG revival?
Long before there was NCIS, NCIS: LA and NCIS: NoLa, there was JAG, the show they spun off of. On May 12th, Los Angeles will get a little taste of JAG. That is because David James Elliott will reprise his role as Harmon Rabb for a few episodes.
According to CBS, the first episode he appears in is about, “The NCIS team uncovers ISIS sympathizers who look to be planning an attack on US aircraft carriers. The terror threat will result in Callen (Chris O’Donnell) and Sam (LL COOL J) working directly with Rabb, the XO Captain on the USS Intrepid.”
I wonder if this is CBS’s way of saying that if these episodes do well, then they will bring back JAG?
Did you know that JAG started out on NBC, got cancelled and was saved by CBS? I wonder if NBC kicks themselves whenever they hear that NCIS is the #1 show? I am sure they do.
CBS announced today that NCIS and Mark Harmon will be back for season 16. Is the news a surprise? Of course not, it is still the most-watched drama in the overnights. It even beats This Is Us and The Good Doctor and it has been on so long it is a bratty teenager. While their cases are about dead people, this show is far from being a corpse.
NCIS joins SEAL Team, SWAT, The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, Mom and Murphy Brown on CBS’s 2018-2019 lineup.
Pauley Perrette took to social media today to announce that she will be leaving NCIS this season. After 15+ years of playing Abby on the #1 drama, she decided last year that it is time to move on. She did not say what she will be doing next, but she wanted to let us know she is not starting a skin care line. Will she will follow in Michael Weatherly’s footsteps and get her own show on The Eye? We are months away from finding that out.
With her departure, that means that Mark Harmon, Sean Murray and David McCullum are the only actors left on the show since the first season.
Are you going to miss Abby?
UPDATE: NCIS released this statement about her upcoming departure.
