Even though most of us were not around in 1969, it is still hard to believe that this summer will mark the 50th anniversary of Woodstock. To honor the occasion, Bethel Woods Center for the Arts will open their land up again for a 3-day music festival starting on August 16th that will also include TED Talks and exhibitions.
Since they are in the early phases of planning, we do not know who will be playing there and how much the tickets will cost. I would expect them to be expensive.
As cool as I think this is, I don’t think you can ever recreate that once-in-a-lifetime experience. Plus, you don’t have performers today like Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison. Not only because they are dead, but also because their music had a much deeper meaning. Now it is all about selling out and autotune and not about getting the message across to their fans.
I am sure they are going to try to get the Beyonces and Lady Gagas, but they are not The Who, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane and Sha Na Na. How did I not know that Sha Na Na performed at Woodstock?
Are you going to go or are you like what the world does not need now is another music festival?
A few years ago, I heard this great medley of the year beforehand’s biggest hits and I loved the song. I used Shazam to find out who did it and it was Anthem Lights. I found out that was one of their many year-end medleys.
Well, it is that time of year for 2018’s version and they mashed together Maroon 5’s Girls Like You, Ariana Grande’s no tears left to cry, Drake’s Gd’s Plans, The Greatest Showman’s This Is Me (although wasn’t that 2017) and Zedd’s The Middle for one awesome tune.
Sit back and listen to it and then listen to their other mashups on their YouTube page.
I have been to dozens of concerts in my life. I had a singer try to hit me on the head with a mic stand. Another one looked at me like I was crazy. I was told by another one I was crazy. And a guitarist splashed Jack Daniels on me. But I have never been thrown out.
That is me. A couple on Friday was so excited to see Machine Head that they could not control themselves. Or as the band put it, “San Diego! HOLY… FREAKIN… SH*T!!!?? When a guy and gal get ejected for having sex during ‘Davidian’ (in the front row no less!?) you know it’s gonna complete insanity! *no joke!*… WOW, what a welcome back you gave us, we are blown away! ⠀
“Epic circle pits, the jumping was crazy, boobies, sing-a-longs, crowd-surfing-mania, couples having sex!!?”
In the front row? I cannot even imagine how. Especially since it is so packed. But when there is a willy, there is a way. Maybe if she just gave him some machine head instead, they could’ve stayed for the whole show. Hopefully, they will cum to their next show because it sounds like they will be back in San Diego again soon after an 11-year hiatus.
One of the biggest albums from last year was The Greatest Showman. Now, nearly a year later it is being reimagined by some of today’s biggest musical acts like Panic at the Disco, Kesha, Missy Elliott, Kelly Clarkson and Sara Bareilles. The biggest names attached to the album are P!nk, who sings A Million Dreams, and her daughter, Willow Sage Hart, does the reprise of it.
Kevin Weaver, Atlantic Record’s president, west coast, told Variety, that when he saw the album selling 100,000 units a week at the beginning of the year, he knew he had to do something special with it. Then he saw artists like P!nk and Selena Gomez dancing and singing to the songs from it on social media, so he knew what to do. On November 16th, that vision will become a reality with The Greatest Showman – Reimagined.
And I imagine, it is going to be one of the biggest selling albums of the holiday season.

When you think of the greatest selling albums of all-time in America, you think that it would be one from either Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Prince, Beyonce and/or Whitney Houston. You would be wrong. While Michael Jackson’s Thriller used to be #1, it has been downgraded to #2.
Who knocked the late great singer out of the top spot? The Eagles. According to RIAA, The Eagles: Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975 is #1 and their follow-up album Hotel California is #3.
The #1 album has sold over 38 million copies since it was released in 1976, and Hotel California, that was also released that year, sold 26 million copies.
Can someone please explain to me why The Eagles have 2 out of the top 3 selling albums of all-time? I was told it is a California thing. However, when I asked California natives about it, they could not tell me.
I have never owned one of their albums. I know a few of their songs, but I never got their appeal. If you saw my music collection, then you would see it is full of all types of musical genres. Classic Rock is one, and yet, not one Eagles CD. I don’t even have any of their songs on my playlist.
Do you get it? Are you an Eagles fan? Are you as shocked by this news as I am?
Heck, I know Meat Loaf’s Bat Out of Hell used to be up there, and that I get. To me, Paradise in the Dashboard Light is more of sing-along song than Hotel California. And Hotel California is not even on the #1 selling album of all-time. Please, can someone explain their popularity to me?
BTW I am not dissing the band and its members, I just am trying to comprehend their sales.
