Joe Eszterhaus dishes on Madonna, Warren Beatty and more
September 5th, 2006 under Madonna, Sharon Stone, Val Kilmer. [ Comments: none ]

Joe Eszterhas wrote "Basic Instinct," "Flashdance," "Showgirls" and "Jagged Edge" and once got $4 million for a four-page outline. But now, the superscripter has written "The Devil’s Guide to Hollywood: The Screenwriter as God," in which he dishes about the stars with whom he’s worked as he doles out tips on his craft. To wit:

  • "Liv Tyler did an interview in which she said she was the inspiration for ‘Showgirls.’ She said I had become obsessed with her after seeing her play a stripper in an Aerosmith video. She said, ‘He tried to get me to take the lead in the movie, but I didn’t want to get into that kind of thing.’ It was news to me. I’d never seen the Aerosmith video, I’d never met or spoken with Liv."

  • "Val Kilmer is an imbecile. Asked by the Academy to nominate the three best film moments of the century, Kilmer nominated three of his movies. One of them was ‘Batman Forever.’"
  • "For many years, Robert De Niro, always brilliant onscreen, couldn’t even say two words on his own. He’d sit there, not speaking – woefully, miserably, pathetically lost without the words of a script."
  • "Michael Douglas, in my experience, is not brilliant and may very well, in some cases, be dumb. This is the guy who wanted to change the ending of ‘Basic Instinct’ because it wasn’t ‘redemptive.’ Douglas didn’t like that he was the star of the movie and that [Sharon Stone] ‘one-ups me at every turn.’"
  • Meanwhile, "Sharon’s ‘prima donna’ behavior so annoyed the crew on one of her movies that they relieved themselves into a bathtub before Sharon got into it for her scene."
  • "The joke in Hollywood is that Warren Beatty, the ‘great auteur,’ can turn a ‘go’ movie into a development deal. He’ll get involved, work with six writers rewriting your script, then pull out of the project."
  • "You don’t want Edward Norton to star in your movie. He now rewrites all the scripts he agrees to act in."
  • And Eszterhas claims that when Madonna was trying to get the part in "Desperately Seeking Susan," she went to the office of Orion production chief Barbara Boyle, "dropped to her knees and said, ‘I’ll do anything to get this part.’ Boyle said, ‘I’m happily married and I’m straight,’ to which Madonna replied, ‘You should try everything once.’"

I am sure most of it is BS, but it is still a fun read

Madonna and Guy Ritchie’s intellectual fight?
    August 30th, 2006 under Madonna. [ Comments: none ]

For most mothers the start of the new school year is a welcome relief from the hurly-burly of the school holidays. But Madonna has enjoyed seeing her children so much that she wants them to stay on her Confessions world tour with her. While she may have gone up in the estimations of little Lourdes, nine, and Rocco, five, her husband Guy Ritchie is not so keen on the idea.Guy, 37, and the queen of pop, 48, have had a series of furious rows because he thinks the children should stay in one place to be educated. He is growing increasingly fed up with them moving every few weeks because of the tour, which goes on until October.A family source said Madonna ‘likes to have her children with her — otherwise she wouldn’t see much of them’.The source added: "They already have schools in London and Los Angeles which they float between."But in recent weeks they’ve been to New York and Miami too, and she wants to take them to other tour stops like Russia."Madonna thinks it’s good for her kids to be with Mom and see the world, but Guy disagrees."He’s more traditional and would prefer them at one school."It’s causing a lot of tension — and their friends and family are voicing opinions too."

I side with Guy on this one. The kids need to be in school and not on tour with her.

    Happy Belated B-day Madonna

Yes I knew it was her birthday yesterday, but I just found this picture on Getty Images of her going to her birthday party in London. Is it just me or does it seem the way the person behind her is holding her that he is holding her like an eldery woman?

Leonardo DiCaprio is a good guy!
July 24th, 2006 under Admirable People, Leonardo DiCaprio, Madonna. [ Comments: none ]

LEONARDO DiCaprio, who plays the hero in movies, was a real hero to two wheelchair-bound Madonna fans the other night. Francesco Clark, 28, – who worked at Harper’s Bazaar until a car accident left him a quadriplegic and now runs the Clark’s BoTanicles skin-care company – had front-row seats to one of Madge’s shows at the Garden last week thanks to his pal, Harper’s Bazaar creative director Stephen Gan. But when Madonna came onstage, the crowd rushed forward and Clark’s wheelchair was nearly knocked over. "He couldn’t see anything because people were all standing around him," said Clark’s pal, WWD writer Elisa Lipsky-Karasz. "He tried to move to the front, but no one would budge, and nobody cared. Then the security guard came over and was being rude and told him to move." At that point, DiCaprio came over and said, "Why don’t you come sit with me and I’ll just move over?" The star was at the end of the catwalk in front of a no-standing zone. Moments later, DiCaprio moved another wheelchair-bound person in next to Clark, saving her view as well.

What a good guy! More celebs should follow his example, unlike Rosie who left her girlfriend for front row seats to see her friend Madonna. Granted having good seats on this tour is well worth the ticket price!
