When you think of Steve Urkel, you think he is so animated that he would make a great cartoon series? Therefore, could his character and the Winslow family come back as animated characters? Jaleel White answered that very question on Twitter, “Couldn’t agree more 💯 Animated series was pitched and rejected by the show’s original producers. Steve’s inventions made it all a cartoon by today’s TV standards but they didn’t see it that way 🤷🏽♂️ Thanks for the support. Check us out on @hulu.”
I think the producers are making a huge mistake because if anyone can take on The Simpsons and Family Guy, it is Family Matters. Best part, we do not have deal with older versions of the characters we know and love. They can be just the way were. Who wants a 40-year-old Urkel when he could still be that nerdy teen driving everyone crazy?
Especially since White based his character after Ed Grimley and Martin Short turned that dream into one of animation gold.

Before Jaleel White had those Urkel dance moves on Family Matters, he was showing them off for Lionel Richie in a Pepsi ad. How cute was the 8-year-old in that 1985 commercial?
We all fell in love with Urkel from Family Matters and thought he was completely original character. Turns out that Jaleel White based him on another beloved character from that era. He told Entertainment Weekly, that the lovable geek was based on Martin Short’s Ed Grimley from Saturday Night Live. Now that you know, it is completely obvious. I cannot stop seeing the two actors with their pants up to their nipples. What about you?
Last week it was announced that the Family Matters house is going to be torn down, and this week Entertainment Weekly posted photos of the cast together again. Jo Marie Payton, Reginald VelJohnson, Kellie Shanygne Williams, Darius McCrary, Jaleel White, Telma Hopkins, Shawn Harrison, and Bryton James did a photo shoot for the mag. Even though it has been 19 years since their beloved sitcom ended, they look just as close as they did then. In fact, they look like they are having as just as much as they did when they were all working together.
So much so, I think someone needs to give them reboot ASAP. I would love to spend my Friday nights with the Winslows and Urkel all over again. Just like I did in the ’90s. Would you watch?

Before Jaleel White was saying, “Did I do that?” on Family Matters, he was saying, “Uh-oh!” for Chef Boyardee SpaghettiOs. How cute was the 9-year-old in that 1986 ad?
