I have to admit, I do not remember a lot about my JHS years. I try to block out that awkward part of my life. It was awkward for all of us. You are not a kid, you are not a full-blown teen and you are not an adult. Therefore, you act like you are all of them even though you are none of the above.
It is when you realize the World is not as innocent as you thought. Thus, you want to try dating, sex, drinking, smoking cigarettes and so on because everyone is telling you not to do it. It is a tough age for everyone, and even tougher for others. No matter how tough it is, you just keep moving forward and thankful that you have friends who are going through it with you.
That is what PEN15 on Hulu now is all about. Maya Erskine, 31, and Anna Konkle, 24, chose to go back to being 13 years old in seventh grade and relive those awful years for this show.
Maya and Anna are best friends and are looking forward to 7th grade, but that will change once they finally walk into their new school. Maya tried to cut her hair on her own and messes it up. Her strict mom decides to fix it by giving her a bowl cut. Anna tries to be cool by wearing a bra even though she does not have much to fill it out. Something their classmates will make fun of them about. And that is just the first day.
As the season goes on, they will experience crushes, first kisses, drinking, smoking, shaving, masturbating, fights, arguing with their parents, school dances, trying on a thong, divorce and so much more. They will experience what teens like them were going through in the year 2000. When AOL was just becoming a thing.
As I watched them be whiny and bratty, I thought to myself was I that bad? Then I thought, I have to show this to my friend who has a daughter close to that age. It will prepare him for what he is about to go through because it is an honest look at preteen girls. Then I will wonder why he is calling me to ask me to raise his daughter for a few years. As much as we have tried to prepare him for her teenage years, this show demonstrates everything we have told him about and then some.
Therefore, if you want to remember what it was like to be at that stage of your life, then watch PEN15 now. It might not be the stroll you want to take down memory lane, but it is one you will enjoy. PEN15 is also good to share with the people in your life who have kids under 14. It is a good way to prep them for their future hell.
When it comes to the actress playing characters much younger than they are, I did not realize they were much older until midway through the series. There is a scene where you are like, she has to be over 18 for them to show that. She is way over 13, yet you will believe she really is a new teen.
While other shows make being 13 look glamorous, this one shows as it is. Which is refreshing and surprisingly a good thing.

When I heard that J.J. Abrams was doing a series about Stephen King’s fictional town Castle Rock for Hulu, I was excited about it. Then I watched the first four episodes, that begin streaming tonight, and I am not really sure what is going on.
The show starts off with Dale (Terry O’Quinn), the warden of Shawshank State Penitentiary, and it is his last day on the job. He kisses his wife goodbye, drives to the woods, ties a rope around his neck and drives his soon to be headless body into Castle Rock. He is dead, but he lives on as the narrator.
There is a new warden in town and she just found out that her predecessor left a wing of the overcrowded prison empty. When she sends in some guards to check it out, they discover a nameless young man who has been living there. No one knows who The Kid (Bill Skarsgård) is, and he is not telling them.
All they know about him is his first words were, “Henry Deaver” (André Holland). Deaver is a Texas lawyer, who record is pretty deadly. Deadly as in his clients die. When he gets the call from Shawshank, it means going home, a place he rarely goes. When he was 10 years old he went missing in December and after several days he is found unharmed with no memory of what happened. It is one of the town’s mysteries. That and what happened to his father. Some think he killed him, but he does not remember.
Something his mother (Sissy Spacek) is suffering from. She has dementia and he finds out that Alan (Scott Glenn), who found him as a kid, is living with her. Henry does not like him because there is a lot of conflict between the two. Alan also knows more about the town and answers a lot of our questions.
But there are a lot of questions that still need to be answered. While the show starts off really slowly, it does pick up at the end of the 4th episode. I will stick with it, so I suggest you do it.
The whole second season of The Handmaid’s Tale has been about when will June (Elisabeth Moss) give birth to the Waterford’s baby, and that moment is streaming now on Hulu.
Last week, when we left off June was alone in a mansion in the middle of nowhere after finally seeing her daughter and Nick (Max Minghella) being dragged away by some strangers. Of course, now would be the perfect time for her to go into labor. Right? But can she deliver this baby all by herself? She has no choice but to because there is no one else there to help her and no way she can get any help. As we know when a baby is ready to come, it is ready to come.
As she is struggling with the contractions, she remembers the last time she went through this. Things were a whole lot different when she had Hannah. We see just how very different they were.
The big question you want to know is will she get away? I cannot tell you that. But a lot of game-changing stuff is going to happen in the final two episodes of the season. Therefore, enjoy the calm before the storm in this episode that all is about June.
I do not know about you, but I have been really bored with The Handmaid’s Tale this season, but it all changes with the latest episode that debuts today on Hulu.
June (Elisabeth Moss) is close to giving birth, but she cannot forget her first daughter Hannah. She would love to hold her just one more time. Especially because she does not want her second child to be raised by Waterfords (Joseph Fiennes and Yvonne Strahovski). Meanwhile, they are getting impatient and want their baby now so that they can get rid of June. How far will they go to get their child early?
When it comes to how this episode is relevant, all of these handmaids are moms. They have children, but they cannot see them. They have been taken from them and raised by other people. Kind of like what is happening at the border. How will Handsmaid mom act when reunited with her child? It is a moment you must see.
And that is not the only reason to watch. So much happens you cannot miss a single second of an episode that makes up for the last night.

Remember how excited you were every time you watched a new episode of Animanics? Well guess what? You can have that feeling all over again because Hulu picked up the animated cartoon for 2 more seasons. That’s right after nearly 20 years, they finally freed Yakko, Wakko and Dot from the water tower on the Warner Bros lot. Now I know why I was always hearing banging whenever I walked by it, they were hoping to be let out. And now they are on the loose and the lot will not be the same. Which is a good thing.
If this is not good enough news for you, then there is also more! Along with streaming all the previous 99 Animaniacs episode, Hulu got their hands on the libraries of Pinky and the Brain, Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain, and all of Tiny Toon Adventures.
Now here is the bad news. New episodes of Animaniacs will not starting airing until 2020. But good things comes to those who wait.
