TMZ has learned that actor Haley Joel Osment has pled no contest to two misdemeanor charges stemming from a horrifying late car crash in July. According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Osment plead no contest to one count of driving under the influence of alcohol and one count of possession of marijuana. Osment was sentenced to three years probation, 60 hours of alcohol rehab, six months of AA meetings (with a minimum of 26 meetings within that span of time) and was fined $1500 in penalties. Osment, who was nominated for an Oscar for his role in "The Sixth Sense" at age 11, lost control of his 1995 Saturn on his way home and collided with a brick pillar in a suburb of Los Angeles around 1 a.m. on July 20. No bystanders were injured in the wreck, but Osment wasn’t so lucky: the actor was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was treated for a broken rib and an injury to his shoulder. The collision caused the vehicle to flip over onto its roof and come to rest a short distance from the initial impact. The actor was reportedly alert and talkative following the accident, and was alone at the time of the crash.

Osment was arrested on August 18, a month after he crashed his 1995 Saturn into a brick pillar in Los Angeles. The "Sixth Sense" star was charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a .08 blood alcohol level or higher, with an enhancement of driving with a .15 or higher. Osment was also charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana while driving. Osment’s smiley-faced mugshot has shades of the now-famous mug of Mel Gibson, in which the "Braveheart" star has every hair in place and the right hairs out of place. Blame it on Tom Delay, whose recent mugshot makes it look like the Congressman just won a medal of honor.

And Osment will be charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana while driving. I heard from people he was 13 going on 40, now we see the effects of that statement.

UPDATE: An LA County Sheriff’s Department official tells Access Hollywood that they suspect alcohol was involved in the collision involving Haley Joel Osment early today. A blood sample was obtained after the young actor was taken to Pasadena’s Huntington Memorial Hospital this morning. The sample will be tested and results will be known within three weeks. If alcohol was indeed a factor, they will take the case to the District Attorney for prosecution. The sample will also be tested for the presence of drugs.

Sixth Sense star Haley Joel Osment fractured a rib and hurt his shoulder in a car crash Thursday morning, his doctor says.

Osment, 18, is expected to make a full recovery, according to Dr. Paul Gilbert, an orthopedic surgeon at Huntington Hospital where Osment will remain until Friday.

"He’s pretty uncomfortable and resting. He just wants to let everyone know he’s going to be OK," Gilbert told the Associated Press.

Haley Joel Osment was hospitalized early Thursday after he apparently lost control of his car while heading to his Los Angeles-area home, authorities said. Osment, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his role as a boy who could see dead people in The Sixth Sense, was driving a 1995 Saturn about 1 a.m. when the car collided with a brick pillar and flipped, said Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lieut. Greg Sisneros.The 18-year-old actor was awake and talking following the crash, Sisneros said. He had been alone in the car and was taken to Huntington Hospital in nearby Pasadena.Sisneros had no information on his condition, and an emergency-room receptionist said no one under that name was at the hospital.Osment is set to appear in the upcoming Home of the Giants. In the film, he plays a high school journalist covering a basketball team as it heads toward the state championship.
