Fridays are a laughing matter on NBC because of Happy’s Place and Lopez vs Lopez, and people are tuning in because of that. So now the network is asking both sitcoms for three additional scripts that I am sure will turn into episodes.
Happy’s Place stars Reba McEntire as a bar owner whose father recently died. She thinks the place is all hers until she finds out she has a much younger sister, and that sister gets half the bad. Now, the two sisters are trying to get to know each other.
Lopez vs Lopez is loosely based on George Lopez and his daughter, Nayan’s relationship. He wasn’t there for her when she was younger, but now he is back in her life. So, now the father and daughter are trying to adjust to their relationship.
So, you know how Ellen DeGeneres announced that she was retiring from standup after her Netflix comedy special? Well, today, George Lopez announced the same thing.
The comedian tells Tamron Hall (via Deadline) that he has retired from standup and his Prime Video is his swan song. “I’ve subjected the American people to enough of my crap,” he told the host. “It seems like the right time; it’s been the one thing that has just never left me my whole life and it’s a wonderful place to leave it at this particular point.”
What does he plan to do with all of that extra time? He plans to spend it with his daughter and Lopez vs Lopez co-star, Mayan.
I love that they did not have the best relationship when she was growing up. But now he is making up for lost time.
George Lopez has been growing out his hair for a while. So, when he was on KTLA this past Friday, Dayna Devon decided to give the comedian his first man bun.
Do you know what? He actually looks good with it. In fact, I think he should wear his hair like that on Lopez vs Lopez, which is back on NBC on October 18th.
If watching him on your television is not enough, he has eight standup dates on the West Coast between September 14th and November 16th.
He who laughs last laughs best. And NBC saved their sitcoms’ fate for last.
Today, the network made a decision on the future of their three comedies.
Lopez vs. Lopez, the show is loosely based on George Lopez and his daughter Mayan’s fractured relationship which is on the mend, will be back for a third season.
Sadly, Extended Family, with Jon Cryer and Abigal Spencer as exes trying to figure out how to live as divorced parents to their children, will not be back for a second season. EF also starred Donald Faison as Spencer’s fiancé.
And that cancellation made room for Happy’s Place, starring Reba McEntire.
Bobbie (McEntire) inherits her father’s restaurant and is less than thrilled to discover that she has a new business partner in the half-sister she never knew she had.
The series has her reuniting with her Reba co-star Melissa Peterman and EP Kevin Abbott.
NBC will announce their 2024-2025 schedule on Monday.
