NBC has been hush-hush about when Kelly Clarkson was going to debut her daytime talk show in its new home of New York City. Well, today, they broke their silence. The singer’s talk show will be back on October 16th.
She is not the only one hitting the airwaves on that day; so is Drew Barrymore. Unlike Clarkson, Barrymore attempted but failed to bring her show back while the WGA strike was still going on. So, I am sure her show will start with a teary-eyed apology.
The only daytime talk show we are waiting to hear from is The Talk. And I am assuming, since it is a CBS show like Barrymore’s, that it will also be back on the 16th.
Hopefully, by then, the SAG strike will be over, and actors can talk about their work again! Actually, I just want the actors to get a fair contract and be able to go back to work.
Last week, Drew Barrymore, The Talk, and Jennifer Hudson went back into production and planned on premiering the new season of their daytime talk shows tomorrow. And the striking workers of the Writers Guild of America, along with actors, were not happy with their decisions.
Therefore, they started picketing their shows because even though they are cleared by the Screen Actors Guild to do their talk shows, they are not from the WGA because they have writers from the union who work there.
So, on Friday, Barrymore released a tearful apology video, and she got attacked again. So, today, she made an announcement. “I have listened to everyone, and I am making the decision to pause the show’s premiere until the strike is over,” she wrote. “I have no words to express my deepest apologies to anyone I have hurt and, of course, to our incredible team who works on the show and has made it what it is today. We really tried to find our way forward. And I truly hope for a resolution for the entire industry very soon.”
Shortly after her announcement, The Talk and Jennifer Hudson followed suit.
I hope that the AMPTP finally negotiates a fair contract ASAP because this is really hurting people. They have billions of dollars, and most of the people who work in show business have just hundreds left in their bank accounts. It is really bad here. People who aren’t even in the industry are struggling because they depend on the studios and their employees to keep their businesses alive.
It is disgusting how the AMPTP has handled this whole situation. Wait until they find out that you can’t take it with you in hell.
Drew Barrymore had finished taping the third season of her daytime talk show before the Writers’ Strike began.
However, the strike started days before she was set to host the MTV Film and Television Awards, so she opted to cancel hosting that show.
So, we have been wondering if she would return to her talk show before the Writers’ and Actors’ strikes are over, especially since SAG allows her to do it.
Today, she announced her decision: “I made a choice to walk away from the MTV, film and television awards because I was the host and it had a direct conflict with what the strike was dealing with which was studios, streamers, film, and television. It was also in the first week of the strike and so I did what I thought was the appropriate thing at the time to stand in solidarity with the writers. And to be clear, our talk show actually wrapped on April 20th so we never had to shut down the show. However, I am also making the choice to come back for the first time in this strike for our show, that may have my name on it but this is bigger than just me.
“I own this choice. We are in compliance with not discussing or promoting film and television that is struck of any kind. We launched live in a global pandemic. Our show was built for sensitive times and has only functioned through what the real world is going through in real time. I want to be there to provide what writers do so well, which is a way to bring us together or help us make sense of the human experience. I hope for a resolve for everyone as soon as possible. We have navigated difficult times since we first came on air. And so I take a step forward to start season 4 once again with an astute humility.”
The Drew Barrymore Show will return with new episodes on September 18th.
It is no secret that Drew Barrymore and her mother have a problematic relationship. And she talked about it to Vulture.
She explained to the reporter why she needed to interview Jennette McCurdy and Brooke Shields on her talk show about what they wrote in their books about their momangers. “All their moms are gone, and my mom’s not,” she says. “And I’m like, Well, I don’t have that luxury. But I cannot wait. I don’t want to live in a state where I wish someone to be gone sooner than they’re meant to be so I can grow. I actually want her to be happy and thrive and be healthy. But I have to fucking grow in spite of her being on this planet.”
Several sites interpreted that the actress wishes her mom dead from that quote, and she was livid about what they said.
So she took to social media to angrily explain what she meant, so they would retract what they wrote. “To all you tabloids out there, you have been fucking with my life since I was 13 years old. I have never said that I wish my mother was dead. How DARE you put those words in my mouth.
“I have been vulnerable and tried to figure out a very difficult, painful relationship, while admitting it is difficult to do while a parent is alive. And that for those of us who have to figure that out in real time, cannot wait, as in cannot wait for ‘the time,’ not ‘the parent is dead.’
“Don’t twist my words around or ever say that I wish my mother was dead. I have never said that. I never would. In fact, I go on to say, ‘That I wish that I never live in an existence where I would wish that on someone because that is sick.”
I have never seen the actress get that mad over anything, so you know that it really got to her. Hopefully, they will apologize to her. But I doubt it.
Drew Barrymore is as nice as she seems. That is why everyone loves her.
Recently during a taping of The Drew Barrymore Show, she had a superfan there who started to cry when she saw the actress in person.
As soon as Drew saw the woman with tears coming out of her eyes, the host walked over to see if she was OK. That is when the woman told Drew that she is her childhood idol.
The fan also let the star know that she didn’t want to be one of those people who gets emotional when they meet their idol. So Drew told Olivia to be that person who cries and then went over to hug her admirer.
As Drew was hugging Olivia, she sat down on her admirer’s lap and told her, “It’s an honor to meet you,” and apologized for her dumpling breath.
Finally, because the commercial break was almost over, Drew told her that it was funny the fan didn’t want to cry because she does it all the time in the studio.
I am sure Olivia will never forget that moment for the rest of her life. She will remember it fondly.
And with that, we all adore Barrymore even more than we did before we watched this sweet interaction. More celebrities should be like Drew!
