The Hoff too drunk to fly? |
July 26th, 2006 under David Hasselhoff/Baywatch, Divorce. [ Comments: none ]

BAYWATCH star David Hasselhoff was yesterday barred from a plane — for being DRUNK.He had turned up at the British Airways first-class lounge in Heathrow at about 7am reeking of booze.Passengers saw him PICK UP a shop manageress, STAGGER around and MUMBLE to people. Staff told the 54-year-old actor — nicknamed The Hoff — he was unfit to board the Los Angeles flight and he agreed. Alcoholic Hasselhoff was allowed on a plane two hours later but had to be carried there in a BUGGY meant for the elderly or infirm. It comes three weeks after Hasselhoff was accused of being “steaming drunk” at Wimbledon, which he denies. Earlier this week Hasselhoff — who played Baywatch lifeguard Mitch Buchannon — told a US magazine he had beaten the booze. But he had downed bottled beer and whisky chasers as he prepared to catch his 10.05am flight. BA staff in the lounge said Hasselhoff had told them he was upset over his divorce from wife Pamela after 16 years. A witness at a duty free shop said: “He seemed merry. He’s a huge fella and the manageress is tiny. He picked her up then put her down.”Another said: “He wasn’t aggressive, he just had problems standing. He was clearly drunk.“A passenger asked if he was David Hasselhoff and he said ‘Not at all, you must be mistaken’.“The manager said, ‘I don’t think you’re fit to fly, sir.’ He told her, ‘I think you are right’.Hasselhoff wandered aimlessly around the lounge, propping himself up on a pillar. One staff member said she could not understand his slurring.Hasselhoff was told he could board a later flight but there may be Press photographers. He said: “Why? I’m not a bad man. Kill them.”Asked how he was as he climbed into the buggy, he said: “Good, mate. How are you?“Why didn’t I go on the earlier flight? I have no idea.”The 747 captain and the crew were asked if they were happy to take him and said only if he had no more to drink.A BA spokesman confirmed the incident and said: “A male passenger was unfit to travel.”

Winkler – best known for playing super-cool character The Fonz in ‘Happy Days’ – will play villain Captain Hook in New Wimbledon Theatre’s Christmas production of ‘Peter Pan’. Hasselhoff, dubbed ‘The Hoff’ by fans, dropped out of the production citing other work commitments. Winkler – who has starred in a host of films, including ‘The Waterboy’ and ‘Scream’ – is being paid £100,000 for his appearance in the family show. Last month, theatre producers were left fuming after Hasselhoff broke his contract to take up a better offer, joining Simon Cowell as a judge on new reality TV show ‘America’s Got Talent’.Hasselhoff said on his website at the time: "Unfortunately, I will be unable to appear in the New Wimbledon Theatre’s Christmas pantomime production of ‘Peter Pan’ due to conflicting dates with a TV commitment in the States."

David Hasselhoff saw his star rise again as a judge on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, produced by pal Simon Cowell. Still, he says he might not return for another season. "I don’t know," Hasselhoff tells Newsweek magazine in its July 31 issue. "This is not my cup of tea. I signed on for one season, and Simon Cowell conned me into it: ‘Here’s a lot of money,’ and it’s like The Gong Show. "I’m trying to get on a sitcom or maybe even my own show, Travels With the Hoff," he says. The 54-year-old actor, who starred in Baywatch for 11 years, is also writing his memoirs.

DAVID HASSELHOFF owes his life to a London hotel clerk who swooned at his feet seconds after he accidentally slashed his wrist in a chandelier accent. The legendary actor was rushed to hospital after severing a tendon in his right wrist when shards of glass fell after he hit his head on a chandelier at his hotel last week. But said he would not have pulled through if an overwhelmed receptionist – who came to his aid after hearing his cries for help – had passed out in front of him. He explained: "It was really early in the morning and I said: ‘Help, help, please, and I went over with blood spurting everywhere, and she started to faint." He continued: "I said: ‘No, no, no don’t faint.’ I grabbed her with my foot and I said: ‘Excuse me, can you tell me the number for 911 here in London?’" David now has his wrist in a cast following the mishap.
