We are a little over a month into the Fall TV season, and today we found out which is the first show banished to streaming.
That series is The Real Love Boat. According to Deadline, this upcoming week’s episode and all of the remaining ones will move from CBS to Paramount+.
The reality dating show is hosted by real-life couple Jerry O’Connell and Rebecca Romijn. Each week, they travel on a Princess Cruise Ship to romantic destinations with singles who are trying to find love. Unlike other dating programs, they bring in new singles at each port for the old ones to consider.
I think it will do better on the streaming service because it is younger and hipper. I also wonder if the series would still be on CBS if they had the eliminated singles walk the plank at the end of each episode. But I am a sadist and would enjoy seeing women in evening gowns and full makeup jump into the ocean and get soaking wet.
In case you missed it, CBS brought back The Love Boat as a dating show starring Jerry O’Connell and Rebecca Romijn as the hosts.
Over the weekend, the crew from The Real Love Boat met the cast from the scripted series. So we got to see Doc (Bernie Kopell), Gopher (Fred Grandy), Isaac (Ted Lange), Julie (Lauren Tewes), and Vicki (Jill Whelan) together again.
They all look so amazing; I don’t know why they are reprising their roles every week on the reality reimagining. Although Lange was the premiere and Whelan will be on the show this Wednesday at 9p. So at least we get to see them.
There is only one person missing, besides the late Gavin MacLeod, and that is Charo. It is a travesty she is not entertaining the singles on the cruise! Cuchi Cuchi!
We are a month into the Fall Broadcast TV season, and CBS has picked up So Help Me Todd, Fire Country, and East New York for a full season.
“CBS is off to a tremendous start this season,” said Kelly Kahl, president of CBS Entertainment. “We are thrilled to have the three most-watched new series, each with their own unique settings, characters and storylines. These dramas are elevating our already successful lineup, resonating with diverse audiences both on-air and on streaming, and continuing to grow each week.”
The three dramas join Quantum Leap, which received additional episodes from NBC last week.
There is a program where inmates work as firemen to finish out their sentences. Fire Country on CBS at 9p tonight is a show about that.
Bode (Max Thieriot) is serving a 5-year sentence for armed robbery, and he is being transferred to that program in North California. More specifically, Edgewater, which is his hometown.
He has a history there and doesn’t want to serve at the location. He will be reunited with his former best friend, Jake (Jordan Calloway), and there is a lot of animosity between them. They have a secret, and it tore their friendship apart. Not only that, they can’t even be civil to each other. That is going to make it difficult for them to fight fires.
Bode isn’t even there for a day, and there is already a massive forest fire that is threatening the town. He and his co-firefighters are going to have their work cut out for them.
Manny (Kevin Alejandro) runs the program, and he knows there is something special about Bode. However, he also knows there is a lot more to his story and connection to the town.
Manny also has a connection to the town, his daughter Gabriella (Stephanie Arcila). She is an Olympic diver and is debating whether to stay in Edgewater or go back to Florida and train. What is holding her back? She is dating Jake, who she loves. However, he does not want to be the reason she stays.
Manny is the chief of the inmates, and Vince (Billy Burke) is the fire chief. He is married to division chief Sharon (Diane Farr). They, too, have their secrets, and Bode is going to make things more complicated.
Now that Bode is back, things are heating up in Edgewater. And I am not just talking about the fires.
Since this is a Jerry Bruckheimer series, be prepared for huge breathtaking fire scenes that are so realistic. So much so that you will feel the heat coming from your television. You won’t know if it is the fires or the drama. Either way, Fridays just got a lot hotter!
Legal procedurals don’t have to be so uptight, they can be fun like CBS’s So Help Me Todd which debuts tonight at 9p.
Todd (Skylar Astin) is a PI who had his license revoked. He is irresponsible, unlike his mother, Margaret (Marcia Gay Harden), who is a top lawyer. All she wants is for her son to get his life back on track.
However, her life is about to go off track when her husband suddenly goes missing. Todd uses his magic to try to track him down, and that impresses his mom so much so that she decides to hire him at the firm where she works at so she can keep track of him and use his skills.
Not everyone is happy about his hire. Lyle (Tristen J. Winger) already does the firm’s research, and he thinks his way works best. He is very anal and doesn’t agree with Todd’s fly-by-the-seat ways. Can they win each other over?
Todd’s sister, Allison (Madeline Wise), is already on his side. She also has to be a buffer between her mother and her brother. Something that is not easy because she has to remember to keep their secrets and lies from the other one. She sometimes forgets what to hide. That and she gets caught in the middle. It makes it more difficult that her brother lives with her, and his mom wants him to grow up and get his own place.
Now that he is working with her, she is hoping she can get him in check. While he is hoping to get, his mom to loosen up. Little by little, they rub off on the other one. All while making sure that her clients get the best defense due to their skills.
This show is a procedural, but it also has a lot of heart. So it is the perfect dramedy to follow Ghosts and lead into CSI: Vegas. CBS has a must-see Thursday, and I am looking forward to next week and the week after that, and so on.
