Brian Heidik shoots a puppy with bow and arrow.
July 5th, 2006 under Animals, Arrested, TV Reality. [ Comments: none ]

A winner of the popular reality show Survivor was arrested Wednesday after allegedly shooting a puppy with an arrow.

Brian Heidik, 38, is charged with battery and cruelty to animals. After a pretrial hearing Wednesday morning in Douglas County Magistrate Court, he was released on bond.

During the bond hearing, Heidik told a judge he thought the dog was a coyote that has been harassing his pets, WSB-TV reported on its website.

Douglas County Chief Deputy Stan Copeland said it was a puppy.

"At about 3 a.m., his wife called to report that he was outside and that he had shot a puppy that was on his property with an arrow and planned to shoot another one," Copeland said.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived, Heidik fled in his car but was quickly caught and taken back to the home where the incident occurred.

Heidik’s wife, Charmaine, and 5-year-old son were present at the home at the time of the incident, Copeland said.

Copeland said there was evidence in the home to support a charge of battery for family violence. Because the case is pending, he could not elaborate on the nature of the evidence.

Both the wounded puppy and the second puppy were turned over to animal control officials to determine who they belonged to.

Heidik did not immediately respond to a a message from The Associated Press left on an answering machine at one of two phones listed in his name in Douglasville. There was no answer Wednesday afternoon at the second number. Douglasville is 21 miles west of Atlanta.

Heidik won the $1 million prize as the sole survivor of Survivor: Thailand, the fifth edition of the CBS adventure game show broadcast from September to December 2002.

AXL Rose explains the biting incident
July 5th, 2006 under Arrested, Axl Rose. [ Comments: none ]

GUNS N’ ROSES frontman AXL ROSE has defended allegedly biting a Swedish security guard during a drunken brawl, insisting he was protecting his personal assistant. The singer was held in a Stockholm jail after being arrested last week (27JUN06) and ordered to pay 10,000 kronor ($1,360/GBP756) in damages to the security guard. However, he argues the fine is unfair, because the hotel staffer was threatening his female aide. Rose says, "My assistant BETA and I were talking in the lobby of the hotel when security started to give us a hard time. "My only concern was to make sure she was okay." He added, "We had a great gig in Stockholm and I am not going to let this incident spoil that."

Dallas Austin Pardoned?
July 4th, 2006 under Arrested. [ Comments: none ]

Dubai’s ruler pardoned American R&B producer Dallas Austin yesterday (July 3), hours after he was sentenced to four years in prison for possession of cocaine, two of the producer’s lawyers said.
Dubai ruler Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum issued the pardon but Austin has not yet been released from jail, said the lawyers.
One lawyer, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter, said Austin’s release was "a matter of paperwork." The lawyer said he needed to be careful speaking publicly about the pardon until the Grammy-winning producer was safe on a plane back to his home in Atlanta.
A second member of Austin’s five-attorney legal team confirmed the pardon, but said he had not yet received details. Austin’s release could take a few days, the attorney said.
The songwriter, whose life story was loosely depicted in the 2002 movie "Drumline," was arrested May 19 at Dubai’s airport. He was on his way to a three-day birthday party for supermodel Naomi Campbell at a Dubai hotel, according to reports. He was charged with cocaine possession and has been held without bail at a police station.
