Songwriters will get to add their voices to "American Idol" next season. The Fox TV contest, which has produced instant pop stars and hit records, will allow both professional and amateur songwriters to compete for the chance to write songs for the finalists, a spokesman for series creator Simon Fuller said Monday. In the past, the show has called on an industry songwriter or producer to write an original song for each of the two finalists, with the new "idol" or even the runner-up consistently scoring best-selling records with the tunes. The songwriting contest is aimed at getting numbers that might be better matches for the contestants, Fuller told the Los Angeles Times. Details of the new competition were not available, Fuller spokesman Eric Green said Monday.Auditions for the sixth season of TV’s top-rated series were scheduled to begin Tuesday at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena and continue in six other cities through September. American Idol returns in January.

The author of an "unauthorized tribute" to Clay Aiken is suing the "American Idol" singer, claiming he defamed her and conspired to stifle sales of her book. Jeannie Holleman, 50, says she is a lifelong friend and neighbor of a Raleigh family that was friends with Aiken’s mother, Faye Parker, and took her in when Parker and her young son left her abusive husband.Holleman’s 2005 book, "Out of the Blue — ‘Clay’ it Forward," incorporates interviews from the McGhee family and her own recollections with stories from Aiken’s fans.In the lawsuit, filed Friday in Wake County Superior Court, Holleman claims Aiken, his mother and others conspired to defame her and depress sales of her book by denying they knew her, branding her stories as lies and demeaning the book on Aiken fans’ Web sites. The lawsuit also claims a bodyguard for Aiken manhandled Holleman at a fundraiser in Hawaii.A telephone message left Sunday at Parker’s home was not immediately returned. Messages left with Aiken’s management company were not immediately returned. The lawsuit seeks at least $260,000 in damages and asks the court to order Aiken to retract the critical comments or endorse the book on his official Web site, to write a positive introduction for the book and to sell the book at his concerts for at least five years

What a psycho? I mean you write an unautorized book about someone and when they will not endorse you, you sue them. WTF? And what about following him to Hawaii. She needs a restraining order and not an edorsement.

Hello everyone,
It’s been a pretty amazing few weeks…I met the President! How crazy is that?! All ten Idols hung out in the oval office for about 30 minutes as he talked with us about "the power of the people". I know that’s true, I wouldn’t have this opportunity if it weren’t for all of you…I have the best fans in the world!
About me being sick, it is true that a week ago I was performing with a fever…I was shaking with a 102 degree fever as I walked on stage in Bridgeport CT…I had Chris watch my performance and he couldn’t even tell I was sick. That made me feel a little better. The fever has passed and now I’m stronger then ever!
I love all the wonderful gifts!!! The hats, T-Shirts, jewelry, post cards, pictures, stuffed animals, candy, belt buckles, etc…and my favorite, the letters! I carry big binders full of the letters that you send me so I can read them anywhere at anytime…they always put a smile on my face.
The hometown performances have been outstanding! We’ve covered Elliot, Chris, Bucky, Kellie, and one of Paris’s and I loved seeing them overwhelmed by their hometown support. We’re getting closer and closer to DN! I’ve already heard that it’s going to be nuts…I can’t wait!
About the radio yesterday…I need to just say one more time that I HAVE THE BEST FANS IN THE WORLD!!! We were on the tour buses traveling from Duluth GA. and I was going to just call in on my cell from the bus. But for that whole hour no one had cell service. I tried calling in on everyone’s phone and none of them would go through. Later Ryan told me that the radio station said some low blows on the air and within 5 minutes they had over 500 emails from all of you sticking up for me. You all never cease to amaze me…thank you. Now, I’ll be on that radio station monday morning sticking up for all of you
Tonight we get to rock out in Sunrise FL. It’s going to be a great day.
Much Love,
ACE

Whats up y’all. Got the day off in Fl. and once again, not a day off. I’m writing w/ someone I’ve been wanting to write w/ for a while. I’ll keep his name out of it for now. By the way someone showed me a post on idolforums.com that said Absent Element will NOT be my band and my cousin is trying out as my drummer….I have no clue where that info came from, but SO far from the truth. They WILL audition to be my band. It’s crazy how people the wrong information from people who think they know what’s going on. Anywho, things are awesome and I’ve gotta go for now. Love y’all and God bless.-Chris
You have to love this guy for keeping his fans in the loop via MySpace. Ace and him are the only ones that are using their MySpace accounts!
