October 25th, 2006 under American Idol 1-5. [ Comments: none ]

American Music Award winning funk-rock act Bomb Squad have announced their new front person as Brenna Gethers. The 25 year-old enjoyed national success as a finalist on this past season’s American Idol. "My stint on American Idol allowed me to do what I love to do—sing for millions of people," says Gethers. "I’m looking forward to bringing great music to the masses with Bomb Squad." Gethers recently returned from a tour in Texas, where she opened for American Idol’s Ruben Studdard. The Bomb Squad will write and rehearse during the fall and are planning a tour introducing the new lineup prior to the holidays.

Bo Bice cancels shows because of surgery
October 9th, 2006 under American Idol 1-5, Sick Bay. [ Comments: none ]

Message From Management, October 9, 2006 Bo’s relationship with you, his fans, has been one built on honesty from the very beginning. The moment he stepped on the stage for the first time at Idol, Bo has always been truthful and transparent about who he is and situations in his life. When he was hospitalized in Las Vegas with an intestinal condition, his desire not to disappoint his fans pushed him to get back out on tour as soon as he was able. As you all know, the situation was not resolved by that surgery, and Bo has unfortunately seen the inside of emergency rooms in different cities too often over the past year. After in depth discussions with his physicians, a new round of tests was scheduled during a break in the tour to attempt to pinpoint the problem and determine a course of action to resolve it. After the first round of tests was completed last week, Bo’s medical team concluded on review of the results that surgery could not wait, and he was immediately admitted to the hospital. The surgery was not easy or routine, and after a setback the following day, Bo is now recovering well under the supervision of his doctors and hospital staff.

We are confident that Bo will have a complete recovery, and hopeful that this procedure will be the final resolution to the problems that have existed for the past year. Bo is disappointed to say that this will obviously impact the remainder of the tour, but to what extent is currently unclear. We know your thoughts and prayers are with him, and we will keep you updated periodically if there are any changes.

One final comment to some inaccurate information that was released last week. Heath Clark has not “left” Sugarmoney. With the end of the album cycle rapidly approaching, Heath needed to insure the financial stability of he and his family. After full discussion with Bo and the boys, the decision was made that was best for everyone, and Heath will be back on board when it is time to begin the next cycle. Contrary to other people, and other sites, the band is still whole and united, and right now is there in support of Bo as he recovers.

I hope he gets better soon, and can finally get through all the stuff with his stomach. Poor guy.

Ruben Studdard cancels a charity event
October 8th, 2006 under American Idol 1-5. [ Comments: none ]

Officials say "American Idol" winner Ruben Studdard’s concert on October 13th to benefit the Shriners Hospitals for Children Transportation Fund has been postponed indefinitely. Although ticket sales for the Meridian, Mississippi show have been slow, Benny Eggler, recorder for the Hamasa Shriners and building manager of the Temple Theatre, says the postponement was "due to scheduling conflicts." Locally Hamasa Shriners help more than 500 children in 32 counties in East Mississippi who go to Shriners Children’s Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana, Chicago, Saint Louis, Cincinnati, Philadelphia and Galveston, Texas. Studdard, a native of Birmingham, rose to success after winning Fox’s talent competition "American Idol" in 2003.

Fantasia’s dad says her autobiography lied about him
September 27th, 2006 under American Idol 1-5, Books. [ Comments: none ]

Joseph Barrino, the father of American Idol season-three winner Fantasia Barrino, has filed a $10 million libel lawsuit against Simon & Schuster over his portrayal in Fantasia – Life Is Not a Fairy Tale, his daughter’s 2005 book about her early years and rise to stardom. The book contains damaging untruths about him, Barrino claims in the suit, including that he couldn’t support his family, sacrificed his kids’ education to pursue music careers for them and asks Fantasia for money. The suit seeks $10 million in damages to "vindicate and restore the reputation of Plaintiff Joseph Barrino," a truck driver who lives in Greensboro, N.C. Fantasia is not named in the motion. The suit charges that the information in the book came primarily from a ghostwriter and from Addie Collins, Fantasia’s maternal grandmother. This is not the first controversy surrounding Life Is Not a Fairy Tale. The producers of Idol objected to their portrayal in a TV movie of the book that aired on Lifetime in August. In particular, they denied the adaptation’s claim that they’d urged Fantasia to withdraw from the competition because – as an unwed mother and high-school drop-out – she was not a suitable role model. Also, some residents of Fantasia’s High Point, N.C., hometown were upset with the depiction of their city in the book.

People

Seriosuly did anyone in this family read the book before it was published? And yes I will refrain from making any jokes about how could Fantasia read it you know since she can’t read.
