Is Howard Stern replacing Simon Cowell on American Idol as a judge? Well according to Page Six if the producers had their way he would be.
A source connected to “Idol” said, “It’s one of the few shows that could compete with Stern’s $100 million-a-year Sirius contract, and ‘Idol’ bosses think he’d be even nastier than Simon.
“They know he would be great TV and would clash with the other judges such as Ellen DeGeneres and the contestants. ‘Idol’ will do what it takes to sign him.”
While yes he would be meaner than Simon, it is a different type of meaness and I don’t think the fans of American Idol are going to want to see it. I know I would give up Idol if he became the new judge.
Now when it comes to Howard, it would just be like his radio show with the other three judges. Because Kara DioGuardi has already worn a bikini on the show, Ellen DeGeneres is a lesbian and Randy Jackson looks like Robin Quivers.
Simon Cowell announced he is working on a charity song for the people of Haiti like Bob Geldof did with Band-Aid back in the ’80s and now we know what song they are going to cover…REM’s Everybody Hurts according to SkyNews. Out of all the songs ever recorded, why this one? I am not saying I don’t love this song, but I have personally always associated this song with death because I remember hearing it when my friend’s brother died and it sounds like a suicide prevention song to me. According to Wikipedia Peter Buck wrote this in the linear notes for their greatest hits, “the reason the lyrics are so atypically straightforward is because it was aimed at teenagers,” and he added, “I’ve never watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but the idea that high school is a portal to hell seems pretty realistic to me.” Does that sound like the right song to raise money for Haiti with? I mean if you read the lyrics it can work, but it is just such a depressing song. I am sure I am not the only person who associates this song with suicide prevention?
BTW here is who is going to be part of the cover, Mika, Leona Lewis, Michael Buble, JLS, Rod Stewart, Will Young, Joe McElderry, N-Dubz, Robbie Williams, Coldplay, Take That and Sir Paul McCartney.
Finally I really hope that Simon Cowell throws a lot of money Haiti’s way and doesn’t just work on this song. If anyone has money to give it is him.
So far the big news about this season of American Idol is that Paula Abdul is out and Ellen DeGeneres is in and also that is Simon Cowell’s last season on the show. That was until last week when 62 year old General Larry Platt auditioned and sang his own song called Pants on the Ground. Since American Idol ended the show with that song, it has been performed by Neil Young on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Brett Favre and now Jimmy Fallon with AI judge Randy Jackson. The last time I remember a sensation coming from the audition phase of Idol, it was William Hung and he was the biggest thing about that season. Even bigger than Fantasia’s…well you can fill in the blank there. So I wonder if we should just consider this season a wash because this biggest thing that could come from it already has with Pants on the Ground? Granted I might be saying that because my DVR didn’t record yesterday’s audition episode and I don’t even care. I have watched every episode since season 1 and now I missed one and I am not even upset about it. Is anyone else just not feeling this season?
Today is painfully slow almost as painful as it is to watch American Idol this season. I say almost because watching General Larry Platt sing his song Pants on the Ground helped to ease the pain. I wonder if he will be this season’s William Hung? How cool would it be if the 62 year old to become the star of season 9 for American Idol?
BTW who is else is missing Paula Abdul? The guest judges, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi are not enough to keep me interested.
UPDATE: Neil Young sang Pants on the Ground on Late Night on Jimmy Fallon and it is definitely different than Platt’s! I wonder who will redo it next???
Simon Cowell announced today at the Fox Winter TCA press tour day that this will be his last season on American Idol because he will be back on Fox in 2011 with his hit UK show The X-Factor according to The Live Feed. I think that Fox is making a huge mistake by letting Simon leave American Idol because without him I am not sure I will want to watch. It will kind of be like how I have been watching So You Think You Can Dance, DVR the show and fast forward through whatever the Judges have to say. I mean when was the last time Randy Jackson and/or Kara DioGuardi said anything that was useful or interesting? And when it comes to Ellen DeGeneres she better do a sh!tload better job than she did when she was on SYTYCD because if I want to hear cheesey one-liners I will go to a bar in a tight low cut shirt with my cleavage showing and let the guys do that. Wow just writing that last paragraph, I am not sure I even want to watch American Idol this season and it starts up tomorrow.
When it comes to X-Factor, I am not sure I will want to watch another competition show where we have to pick a winner. I am seriously thinking of cleaning out my DVR and getting rid of a few them when they come back on and I am sure I am not the only one. I mean in a year and half from now won’t most of us be talent showed out?
The one positive thing is at least Simon Cowell won’t be getting the rumored $40 million a year to do AI if he stayed because in these times no one is worth that amount of money. Do you know how many families could live off of that amount of money?
