Sometimes we all need a good story with a happy ending and here is one that will bring a smile to your face.
A mama duck with her 9 babies was doing some sightseeing near a very busy highway entrance when her babies fell through a grate. Someone alerted Caltrans and CHP about the emergency and they rushed over to rescue the baby ducks. They lifted the metal bars and climbed down into the smelly hole. One officer was armed only with a cardboard box, and he could not catch them all. Therefore, another officer joined him and came up with only one duckling while his partner came up with 8. Then the 9 babies were reunited with their mom and off on their way. Hopefully they learned their lesson to follow their mama bird and not go exploring in places they don’t know.
When it comes to the officers, I am sure it was a much welcomed break from their daily routine. You know, to chase the chirp and not perp. One they can’t wait to share with their friends and family when they get home. Hopefully none of their loved ones were serving them Duck a l’Orange. Things could get awkward if they did.
When we think of firefighters, we think of them as rough and tumble men who fight fires. In reality they do a lot more than that. For example, yesterday four firemen from Oklahoma City Fire Department’s Engine 30 rescued six baby ducklings from a storm drain. When they were done, the baby ducks followed their mother home and the boys left one of their own under the ground.
Proving not only can they be our manly heroes, they can also be cute boys who love to play pranks on each other.
That is why they get their own calendars and we buy them!
Josh Paler Lin has done some hidden camera experiments to see how people react to different scenarios. His most famous video is when he gave a homeless man $100 to see what he would do with the money. When he filmed him entering a liquor store, everyone assumed the worst. In reality, the guy spent the money to buy sandwiches for other people who were in his same situation.
Lin recently decided to test out people’s honesty in his latest quest. He did this by making up fake lottery tickets that would make it look like he won $25,000 or $50,000. Then as he was walking away, he accidentally drops the winning ticket to see what they would do. Almost everyone picked it up and either kept it and lied to him, ran away with it and one guy even drove away with it before he confront him. But there were two women who returned the ticket to him and both of them were homeless. As a reward for their honesty, he gave them some money to do with what they want. The second lady said she was going to use it to buy food.
So the next time you look at a homeless person in the street, don’t think the worst of them. They might be a better human being than the perfectly dressed person standing next to you.
Seriously, doesn’t this just make you think of things a whole lot differently?
This year, people have been paying it forward by paying for the customer behind them. While most links go to maybe 5 people at the most, a McDonald’s in Florida went all the way up to 250 people. That is right, two hundred and fifty.
According to Bay News 9, Torie Keene told Marisabel Figueroa that she wanted to pay for the meal for the person behind her on line at the drive-thru. She only had one request, that the manager say Merry Christmas instead of Happy Holidays. The person behind Keene was so shocked and thrilled about what the person in front of them did that they did the same thing. This kept going and going until Figueroa got the 205th car. That’s when Figueroa said the speechless woman was like, “‘What do I do?’ And I said, ‘You just have a Merry Christmas,’ and she went off, and it stopped right there.”
Still this is very impressive. I hope for more stories in the news like this one because we need to hear more happy stories that restore our faith in humanity airing during our newscasters. I am sick of all the death and destruction they keep reporting about over and over again. Who’s with me?
Almost a year ago, Josh Paler Lin warmed every ones hearts when he handed a homeless man a hundred dollars to see what he would do with the money. That man took the cash, went into a liquor store and surprised us all when he bought $100 worth of food and started handing it out to other homeless people.
Since then, Paler has continued to do good for strangers. Recently, he filmed himself doing nice things for people on the street to see how they would react to the kindness of a stranger. Some of the things he did was pay for the meals of the people behind him at a drive-thru, gave hot coffee to strangers, handed a rose to women and filled the gas tanks of people he didn’t even know. Then when he was done for the day, he saw a tent city of homeless people. Instead of going home, he went to McDonald’s, bought a bunch of hamburgers and handed them out to them.
We know that doing a good thing for someone we don’t know feels really good, turns out you get the same reaction watching people do it too.
Christmas is a time of giving and this video reminds us to give to those who need it. This year has been filled with so much hate, let’s remind each other that there is still a lot love out there. Find a way to make someone happy with the littlest gesture, I promise you it will be worth more than any expensive gift you will give to a loved one.
Last week, when I was driving to do an errand, I saw a broken down car. I know, I shouldn’t stop, but it was the day before Thanksgiving, how could I not offer some assistance. Eventually the tow truck came and took them away, and I was left with the great feeling that I just did something nice and they were left with the feeling that someone did something nice for them. I liked that feeling and will continue to do mitvah’s this holiday season, will you join me on this quest?
BTW don’t tell anyone I said this, it will ruin my reputation.
