The Rookie: Feds is giving police procedurals a much needed shot of fun

Police procedurals have become so serious, and that makes things more depressing. However, The Rookie: Feds is bringing some levity into the genre thanks to Niecy Nash’s huge upbeat personality. She is so likable that it sucks you in, and you don’t want to be set free.

The episode starts off with her graduating from the FBI Academy with Brendon Acres (Kevin Zegers). He is a former actor who decided to see the sunlight again. He is most known for playing Vampire Cop, and that works both for and against him.

The two of them are heading to LA to work with Matthew Garza’s (Feliz Solis) new unit. Garza started it because of the time he caught a terrorist with Simone Clark (Nash). When they get there, she finds out she will not be part of his team. Instead, she is going to work in background checks. Do you think she is going to take that lying down? Or should I say sitting in a chair? Of course not, so you have to see how she is going to wiggle her way into the unit.

The unit has two other agents. They are Laura Stensen (Britt Robertson). She is the observant profiler who is going through her own issues. However, you can’t tell because she is stoic.

Then there is Carter Hope (James Leisure), who wants a promotion, and he never seems to get one. He is a by-the-books guy, so he doesn’t like Simone, who is the complete opposite.

Something she got from her father (Frankie R. Faison). As happy as he is to have his daughter home, he doesn’t like her profession. They live in an area where cops are something to be feared, and not in a good way. He is going to keep his daughter grounded and remind her where she is from. And that makes her a better Fed in LA!

And there is not much I can say to make this show better because it is so much fun. Yeah, I said it, a police procedural can be fun. A big reason for that is that the cast already has a lot of chemistry, and the writing is more relaxed with a go big or go home mentality. So together, it all works. And I can see this show being around for a long time because people are going to love it. The genre has been needing something enjoyable like this for a while.

ABC released the first trailer for the second season of Abbott Elementary, and the sitcom about teachers is still bringing the laughs. Actually, it looks like Quinta Brunson, Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter, Chris Perfetti, and Sheryl Lee Ralph have graduated to giving us even more humor. Because of that, September 21st can’t come soon enough!

The Good Doctor is turning 100
September 8th, 2022 under ABC. [ Comments: 8 ]

(ABC/Jeff Weddell)

The Good Doctor will be back for its 6th season on October 3rd. That means the show will be airing its 100th episode this season, and yesterday they celebrated the milestone with a cake cutting with the show’s stars, Richard Schiff, Hill Harper, Savannah Welch, Fiona Gubelmann, Christina Chang, Freddie Highmore, Bria Henderson, Will Yun Lee, and Brandon Larracuente.

I think now that they have hit the syndication milestone, the medical drama’s fate past this season will be decided soon. And I have a feeling this will be the series’ final season.

Abbott Elementary gets a full season order
July 21st, 2022 under ABC. [ Comments: none ]

ABC finally has a hit on its hands, and not they are not going to let anything happen to Abbott Elementary. Therefore, they gave the Emmy-nominated sitcom a full season order for this upcoming season, according to Deadline.

The news is not a surprise because people talk about it, it does well in the ratings, and it received seven Emmy nominations, including Best Comedy. So the network would be stupid not to give the series a 22-episode order.

However, ABC is stupid because the show should be leading the Wednesday night lineup instead of the should’ve been cancelled The Goldbergs.

Abbott Elementary returns with new episodes on September 21st.

Norman Lear wants to recreate the Maude abortion episode for Live In Front of a Studio Audience
July 20th, 2022 under ABC. [ Comments: none ]

Norman Lear has recreated The Jeffersons, All In the Family, Good Times, Diff’rent Strokes, and The Facts of Life for ABC’s Live In Front of a Studio Audience, and now he tells Variety he wants to do one of his most infamous episodes. An episode that is very timely with today’s environment.

That 1972 episode is the two-parter, Maude’s Dilemna, in which Maude decides to have an abortion. That was the first time a character had an abortion in primetime, and it didn’t happen again until Everwood did it in 2003.

Back when Maude had her abortion, Roe v. Wade had not become law, but it was legal to have one in NY. Now, 50 years later, we are in the same boat.

Therefore, it is the perfect time for ABC to recreate it so we can remind people that we have set ourselves back 50 years. How extremely sad is that?

You can watch the episode above and think how brave it was then, and sadly it is the same today. We are still having the same conversations 50 years later.

I hope ABC opts to make this happen. I also hope that ABC decides to pair this with All In the Family’s Edith’s Crisis of Faith. In that episode, Beverly LaSalle is killed for being a female impersonator. It is one of the very few episodes that still affects me to this day. It is also relevant because of all the ignorant assholes we have living in our country today.
