In 1959, 7 men were chosen to be the first people to go into space and they became instant stars. Not only did they become famous, so did their wives. And tonight for the next 10 weeks their story will be told on ABC’s The Astronaut Wives Club.
The 7 men and their wives didn’t know each other before they were selected for the space program and now they are a team and a support system. The women will be there for each other when their husband’s go into space. Remember, they were the first ones to do it, so they are scared that their husband’s might not come back from their groundbreaking flights. Besides that pressure, they also have to deal with the press wanting to know more about them. As they press finds out more about them, so do we. Their lives aren’t as perfect as they look, so it helps that they have each other to be there for them.
There’s Alan Shepard (Desmond Harrington), whose the first to go into space, and his wife, Louise (Dominique McElligott), who is the toughest one of them all. She is the woman they strive to be. Gus Grissom and his wife, Betty (JoAnna Garcia), who is sweet and wears her emotions on her sleeve. John Glenn (Sam Reid) and his wife, Annie (Azure Parsons), and she stutters. Because of that she is afraid to face the press and that will cause problems for them. Scott Carpenter (Wilson Bethel) and his wife, Rene (Yvonne Strahovski) and she is the prettiest one of them all. Not only is she pretty, she has a secret that will make the press turn against her. Wally Schirra (Aaron McCusker) and his wife, Jo (Zoe Boyle) whose very supportive of her husband. Gordo Cooper (Bret Harrison) and his “wife” Trudy (Odette Annabell). I put wife in quotes because they are actually separated because he cheated on her, but they don’t want anyone to know. Deke Slayton (Kenneth Mitchell) and his wife, Marge (Erin Cummings) who is always by side. Tonight we get to know them and starting next week each of their husbands will go into space one by one.
It isn’t only their stories that makes this period drama so hypnotizing to watch, it is how perfectly they nailed that era. I couldn’t recognize some of the actors because their appearance changed so much for that time period. All of them looked better in that style than they their current look. Some period pieces don’t feel authentic, but this one does.
Plus, it makes you want to learn more about the Mercury 7. When we think about the space program, it normally starts with man landing on the moon. But those astronauts were not even the first 7 to go into space.
So starting tonight learn about their journey on a show that is as stunning to watch as it is to look at.
I can’t say enough great things about the show that debuts tonight at 8p on ABC.
Nathan Fillion is on a break from Castle, so he decided to take a shower and share a photo of himself doing it. You know what, that is the sexiest I have ever seen him look. Not because he is naked in the shower (not that hurts), but because that hiatus beard really works on him. Maybe ABC will let him keep it because I know I need a shower after seeing him in the shower with it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfJkusicBa4 ABC announced today when their old shows are coming back and when their news one will be coming. Dancing with the Stars starts it off, a week before all of their other shows. But come September 21st, it is back to normal. While their season/series debuts are pretty standard, I am surprised by their decision to hold Dr Ken until October. That will hurt the comedies chances. Hopefully not, but historically yes.

We know that Nathan Fillion is cute, but did you know he is even cuter swimming with 4 (he says 4, but I only see 3) otters in his shirt? Well, now you know. Castle spent the day at Nurtured by Nature and he got to play with the mammals. Looking at his face, he really enjoyed second of it. Kind of like how much we are enjoying seeing him play with them! Too precious for words.

We know that Jon Jonas and Ciara can sing, Cheryl Burke can dance and Jeff Dye can do comedy, but can they spin a basketball like the Harlem Globetrotters? We will find out tonight and every Tuesday this summer at 10p on NBC’s I Can Do That.
Each week Cheryl Burke, Ciara, Jeff Dye, Joe Jonas, Alan Ritchinson and Nicole Scherzinger will have to chose whether or not they can do an act that was just offered to them. If they think they can do it, they have one week to master it and perform it for us. What do they get? There is no prize, but Jeff Dye says getting out his comfort zone is reward enough.
Now back to the choosing, 4 acts demonstrate their talents one at a time. After each act one celebrity locks in that talent for their own and brings one of the other contestants to join them. Sounds easy, but it isn’t. Dye explained at the NBC Summer Press Day, “Sometimes when you commit to an act, you get all upset. You know you got the first act and then something will come out after it and you’re like, I’m already locked in with this act because they’ve gotten such good acts.” Then he added, “Then other times you sleep on something, you wait and you’re like I don’t know if I want to do that. I don’t know if I want to do that. Then you’re just stuck with the third one, and you’re like, oh, now I’ve got a week of doing this. So there’s a lot of thinking going on, which I’m not used to.” Burke chimed in, “Or if there’s an act that we may already know how to do, we wouldn’t run up and get the act because it wouldn’t be fair.” Then she added, “So the whole point of the show is to really try and step out of your comfort zone and see us at our most vulnerable state. I think that’s the beauty of the show, is you get to see us. We’re all amazing at what we do, but can we do something else? To see our personalities shine through in a whole different light is why the show is amazing, honestly.”
Joe Jonas explained why he agreed to do it, “This show is something that I think a lot of us were kind of wondering what the concept would be, how it would work out, and we’re all thrilled we did it.” Adding, “I mean, for us as creative people, it’s amazing to get up and be put in a challenge where you can’t back down. You have to just give it your all for a week. It can be anything from the Blue Man Group to the Jabbawockeezs and the Harlem Globetrotters, of course. If you’re not giving your all, it can really be a funny outcome.” But if you give it your all, there can be consequences as Burke divulged, “I mean, I thought ballroom dancing was hard. I have never been sore like this in my life.”
So what type of approach do you take when you sign up for this show? Scherzinger said, “Balls to the wall.” Then she added, “In our first show, we were all looking at each other, we’re like what are we doing? We didn’t know but we were just going with it and going full throttle. So I was really excited. I’m like let’s do it.”
So find out if they can do it on I Can Do That!
