Tonight at 9p, get ready for your latest TV addiction, Recovery Road on Freeform.
Maddie (Jessica Sula) seems to be your normal teenager, but she has a problem. She drinks a lot and has been doing drugs. One night, she wakes up on a strange lawn and she has no idea where her car is. You would think that she realized she hit rock bottom, but she doesn’t. It is not until her guidance counselor (Alexis Carra) confronts her mother (Sharon Leal) and her, and tells Maddie that she either has to get treatment or she will get expelled. With those options she decides to go to a sober living facility for 90 days.
When she is there she meets the other residents who are there for different reasons and are at different stages of their recovery. Some of them are repeat offenders and others are there for the first time. Each one of them, like Maddie, doesn’t think belonged there but now they know they do belong where they are at. Will Maddie accept that she has a problem before it is too late?
Those residents are her roommate (Kyla Pratt), who did so much meth she lost her daughter. Trish only wants her baby girl back, and she thinks if she does a reality show it will help. Wes (Sebastian De Souza) is the good looking bad boy, and he has taken a vow not to date anyone until he is sober for a year. Vern (Daniel Franzese) had a problem with cocaine and since he has gotten off of it, he has put on weight. Then there is Rebecca (Lindsay Pearce), Maddie’s former best friend and the girls don’t want anything to do with each other. Those are other residents and Craig (David Witts) is the one trying to keep them all sober which is easier said than done.
Recovery Road is an honest look at surviving addiction which is a lot harder than anyone thinks.
Over the weekend, Will Forte debuted his new look which was shaving all the hair off of the right side of your face and head. Well now, less than a week later, Keegan Allen showed off his new look which is a little like The Last Man on Earth’s. When did shaving only half your face become a thing? Let’s stop the trend now! Who’s with me?
Lucy Hale was on Live with Kelly and Michael this morning and they asked her about being a fan of Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern. She told them she will try eating anything once, so they decided to test out that theory. They gave her four options, chocolate covered larvae, ox tongue, grasshopper tacos and cold jellyfish, and she chose to eat the two dishes with bugs. Was the Pretty Little Liar grossed out by them? Not at all, until she felt like the grasshopper’s legs were stuck in her teeth. That would give me the willies.
You can watch a new episode of Pretty Little Liars on Freeform (formerly ABC Family) tonight at 8p.
Pretty Little Liars is jumping 5 years ahead for the second part of the 6th season on ABC Family/Freeform next month and now it looks like next season will be the last.
The show’s creator Malene King told Variety, “I think that this story when we’re back will end next year at the at end of Season 7.” Then when the trade asked her if that means the show will end in its 7th season, she told them “Correct.”
Fans of the show will be upset, but I am sure they are going out with a big bang that A will approve of.
Plus, these actresses have all become stars in their own right and it is time for them to move on to new projects. Not that this one isn’t good for them, it is just time.
UPDATE: Marlene King took to Twitter to deny that she said next season will be the last season of Pretty Little Liars. She said, “What I said was ‘This Uber A story that starts on January 12 will end when season 7 ends.’ I did not say PLL will end. Just sayin 4 real.”
Does it mean that show won’t be ending when the storyline ends? Only time will tell.
We have seen Monica the Medium help connect people to their deceased mothers, and tonight at 8p on ABC Family we are going to meet her mother.
Her mother is religious and talking to dead is frowned upon in Catholicism. Since her mom has found out about her daughter’s gift, she is learning to accept it. But how did she find out that Monica is a Medium? She told me her mom found out in the worst way. She explained, “She overheard me on telephone call, talking to one of my friends and telling them about my experiences.” Monica felt horrible because that is not how she wanted her mom to find out.
When her Catholic mom learned about her daughter’s gift, she was worried for her child. She is afraid that a bad spirit might disguise themselves as angels. Her mom just wanted to make sure that the spirits her daughter is talking to come from a good place and not a bad one. Her mother has witnessed the positivity that her daughter has brought on to others with her gift.
So in the years since her mother found out, she has come a long way. Tonight at 8p, you will see just as far.
While this is not the normal thing that mothers and daughters find themselves coming to terms with, all mothers and daughters can relate to trying to get the other one to see where they are coming from. That is what makes Monica the Medium so special, it is so relatable but with a twist.
