Shay Mitchell talks about Pretty Little Liars
June 29th, 2010 under Freeform. [ Comments: none ]

Shay Mitchell plays Emily Fields on Pretty Little Liars that airs Tuesdays on ABC Family at 8p, and this pretty little liar has a big secret and she recently talked to me about that secret.
Shay described Emily as “the sweetest of the bunch. I wouldn’t hurt a fly, peace maker, wants everything to be good and comfortable for all the girls.” So I asked her how much of her character is like her and she said she is loyal to them and she will never reveal their secrets…unlike A!
So what is Emily’s secret? Well as we saw during the first episode she kissed a girl and she liked it. But as Shay told me there is more than just meets the eye. Emily is trying to figure who she is and she is dealing with her sexuality. Does she like boys or girls? Because Emily comes from a conservative family, she doesn’t have anyone to talk to and she said that is hurting her. At this point she is not a lesbian and she is not straight, but she is exploring. As we have seen she did have a boyfriend before that kiss and that did not work out so well for her. But could the guy who saved from a bad situation be her homecoming date or could it be her new female neighbor who moved into the wrong house or could she go alone? Shay seemed very coy on who her date will be, and I know I am not the only one who can’t wait to find out.
And as much as I can’t wait to find that out, Shay couldn’t wait to read the PLL books when she got the part. So I had to find out after reading the books if Emily was the character she wanted to play or was there someone else she had in mind? You will have to watch the above interview with the adorable and sweet Shay Mitchell to find out!
BTW Pretty Little Liars is such a hit that ABC Family has ordered 12 more episodes from the show bringing the total to 22!!!

Nikki Blonsky talks about Huge!!!
June 28th, 2010 under Freeform. [ Comments: none ]

Tonight at 9p on ABC Family Nikki Blonsky’s new show is going to premiere and I think it is going to be Huge! Huge is the story of 7 teens who are at a weight-loss camp. By the time it is time for them to go home not only will they have changed their outsides, but they will have a much bigger change happen to them on the inside. The show that also stars Hayley Hasselhoff is touching and real and they deal with the issues that every teen, no matter their size, goes through. I recently sat down with Nikki Blonsky and she talked to me about the show and how it has changed her and she has changed others!
Nikki plays Will, the camp rebel and she told me she is having a lot of fun playing the role. She said her character is totally against the grain, she has blue hair, wear all boys clothes, doesn’t want to be at fitness camp and she just wants to be left alone. But she isn’t going to get what she wants. Her parents are fitness freaks and they want their daughter to be the same, but that is not what she wants for herself. Nikki added this about playing Will, “She’s just a great character. She’s a character I think a lot of kids will be able to relate to because she hides a lot. She does have some insecurities, but she hides them. She buries them with her sarcasm and her wittiness and I think a lot of us do that in today’s generation.”
So is she like her character, she says she likes describe her and say, “she is half and half, I’m Will meets Tracey (from Hairspray)”.
Even though she plays someone who is spending the summer away from home, that is something she has never done before filming this show because she didn’t want to be apart from her parents. The third episode is all about sending letters home and I wanted to know if she has ever sent her parents any. This is the first time she has been away from them for both Mother’s and Father’s Day, so she had to send them cards because she wasn’t home and she thought it stinks. As someone who is also 3,000 miles away from her dad, I completely understand what she is talking about and I am sure we are not alone.
But before we get to third episode let’s talk about what happens during the first one. Tonight she will strip down to just a bathing suit in front of everyone at the camp and I wanted to know what it was like for her to film that scene. She enjoyed doing it and found it very freeing. Before she did the striptease she explained that she felt uncomfortable going to the beach and walking around in her bathing suit. Now after that scene she is like “Screw it! I could go to the beach. I could be in my bathing suit just like anybody else. I can go to the pool. It doesn’t matter what you size you are. Be in your bathing suit, enjoy the pool, enjoy the beach. That’s what it comes down to, about enjoying life and enjoying who you are” Amen, that really is all it is about feeling comfortable in your own skin.
Although we see a lot of Will on the outside in the first episode, she told me a lot of what is in the inside will start to come out in a few episodes. We get to know more about her, why she is the way that she is and she will get a love interest. But how serious will it be, you will just have to tune in every Monday to see.
As of now we have not seen who will be playing her parents and I was curious to see who she would think should play Mr and Mrs Fitness Guru. She told me that her two choices to play her mom would be either Ricki Lake or Ally Sheedy. Of course I thought the first would be great because of the Hairspray connection, but The Breakfast Club star would also be perfect. Maybe ABC Family would give us twist and have both of them play her moms?
I asked her what she wants people to take from the show and she said, “I just want them to be able to relate to it honestly. I want them to go these kids are going through issues that we are going through, you know they look like us. This is a ground breaking series, I think this is the first time a show has a full plus-size cast. Ever! I mean, I can’t think of a show that has done this before. So it is a full plus-size cast, we are going through real life issues and I think that is the most important part.” It is real people with real issues and it is about time a TV show like this aired.
Even though the show hasn’t made its debut, she is already getting fan mail thanking her for doing the role and she wanted to say, “Thank you guys. I will always keep making films and TV shows for my fans to please them and support them. You now they support me, I support them.” And she has supported them, she told me her message is “Follow your dreams cause you never what can happen.” And as we know an unknown girl desperately wanted to star in a little movie called Hairspray, and Nikki Blonsky did it and turned that role into a Huge success for herself. And she also helped someone else’s dream come, but you will have to listen to the interview to hear her inspirational story.
Thanks to ABC Family and the show Huge, Nikki will be able to make more people’s dreams come true and she will help more people feel comfortable about what they look like no matter how small or how Huge they are. So tune in to this delightful show that will make you look in the mirror afterwards and say, “I look damn good.” And you will also feel that way because it is an enjoyable show to watch. It is the perfect meat at 9p in the The Secret Life of an American Teenager and Make It or Break It sandwich!
Finally if you want to let Nikki know how you feel about the show, send her Tweet on Twitter @NikkiBlonksy1!!!

Troian Bellisario talks about Pretty Little Liars!
June 22nd, 2010 under Freeform, Troian Bellisario. [ Comments: none ]

Troian Bellisario plays Spencer on ABC Family’s hit new show Pretty Little Liars that airs Tuesdays on ABC Family and she told me about her character and an amazing moment in her life.
Tonight is the third episode of PLL and everyone is texting about how much they love this show and how they wish they could be like Troian’s character. Spencer, as she told me is very smart, wants to be the captain of all of the sports teams, be the star of all of the school plays, but the one thing she doesn’t know is how to do is have fun. So how much is she like the role she plays, she says she was a lot like her when she was younger up until it was time for her to graduate high school. Troian got into several Ivy Leagues, but she turned them down because she realized she wanted to follow what she wanted to do ever since she was 4 years old and that was to act. So she stayed in California and pursued acting at school.
Troian’s last name might sound familiar to you because her dad is Donald P. Bellisario created some of the biggest dramas ever on TV like Magnum, P.I., Airwolf, Quantum Leap, JAG, and NCIS. So I had to ask her what he thought of her following her mother’s footsteps and becoming an actress. She told me at first he was reluctant, not because of her desire but because this is a tough industry. But then as she told me that would all change for her when she was in college, “There was there really amazing moment for me, I think it was my junior year at USC, when I was in the theater conservatory, that he came up to me after a play, after seeing me in a play and he looked at me and said, ‘Yeah, you can do this and you will!” And it was this massive moment in my life. I obviously broke down in to tears cause, you know, it is kind of like a guy getting his father’s blessing to go marry some girl. Like OMG thank you!” That is a really massive moment and I am so glad that she shared it. Anytime you can get your parents’ approval it is great and there is nothing better than getting it for something you want to do. She then told me what he thought about her getting the role on the ABC Family drama, but you have to watch the interview to see what he said.
Now when it comes to Spencer’s parents on the show, so far we haven’t met them but we have met her sister on the show. Even though Torrey Devitto and her have a sibling rivalry on the show, when the camera stops rolling they actually really like each other. In fact she added that they enjoy playing bitchy towards each other on when the cameras start rolling.
Besides acting she likes to play guitar, so I had to find out if we would be seeing her play one on the show. She said that she doesn’t think that it is Spencer’s thing, but she could see Aria (Lucy Hale) being the one to rock out on a guitar. So what instrument does she see herself playing, she sees Spencer playing the one she played as a kid…the cello.
One of the things she enjoys about playing Spencer is the ways she has to do everything. That is what she used to be like, and she is learning it is not as easy to do it since she has gotten older. For example they asked her if she played tennis and she told them that she did. Then when she read the script she was like “can I have a coach?”.
Pretty Little Liars is based on the popular book series and I wanted to know how much the show keeps to the books. She told me that show is true to them, and the relationships are the same as they were in the book series. So will the busy Spencer make time for a relationship? As we saw in last week’s episode she does and it is the one of many for the multi-tasking Spencer…
Just like Spencer there is nothing that Troian can’t do and I can’t wait to see what else she does on and off of the screen because you know it will be good and she will do a great job doing it. So watch her every Tuesday night on ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars to find out what else A will reveal about Spencer and what and who she will she will be doing!

Lucy Hale likes playing naughty on Pretty Little Liars!
June 8th, 2010 under Freeform, Lucy Hale. [ Comments: none ]

Tonight at 8p on ABC Family the highly anticipated Pretty Little Liars is premiering and Lucy Hale talked to me about the show everyone will be texting their friends about after they watch it! PLL is based on the books about four estranged best friends who are reunited one year after their best friend and queen bee of the group, Alison, goes missing – only to discover they’re receiving messages from an anonymous “A” who knows all their secrets. The show reminds me of Dawson’s Creek mixed with I Know What You Did Last Summer and the combination equals one amazing show. I can’t wait to watch the mystery play out tonight and every Tuesday at 8p!
Lucy Hale plays Aria whose life was normal before Alison went missing. She had a loving family and good friends, but then in one night she finds out her father is having affair, her best friend goes missing and she is uprooted to Iceland for the year. She comes back home and meets a stranger, who she will have a hot steamy scene with, and the next day they find out they will be seeing each other every day and not in the way they were expecting.
I recently sat down with the actress, who I missed having on TV since The CW unfairly cancelled Privileged, and she told me about Aria and why she likes playing her so much. She describes her character as, “Aria, out of the four girls, is probably the most different. She has sort of figured out herself, you know at 16 years old. So it is pretty awesome to play someone so mature, (she) just has different interests. She falls for her English teacher which causes a little trouble. Her whole family life is up in smoke because her dad (Chad Lowe) is cheating on her mom (Holly Marie Combs), so she got a lot issues but for the most part she is pretty put together.” Considering all of that, she really is and you will have to watch to see how much so.
So as you can see her parents are played by TV veterans Chad Lowe and Holly Marie Combs. She told me that they weren’t cast until right before they started filming the show, and she is loving having them play her TV parents. So I had to ask her if she was a fan of Charmed before the show and you will have to watch the interview to find out. She also shared with me that everyone has a crush on Holly because they were all such fans of Piper Halliwell.
And talking about crushes, I was wondering if she wanted to date a character closer to age or does she like dating someone older on the show, and she responded by saying, “I like it! I like the storyline of me and the teacher, it is naughty.” So I asked if she likes playing naughty and she said, “Yeah because I never have. I am usually the sweet girl, so it is fun to do something bad.” And starting tonight at 8p, you can see just how good she is playing someone bad on ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars.
Can I tell you I have seen her in Privileged, Sorority Wars and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 to name a few, and I think this might be her just role yet! BTW I know you were wondering, she is just as adorable in person as she is on the screen.
Finally make sure to follow Lucy Hale on Twitter, for updates on her and the show!

Lindsey Shaw talk about 10 Things I Hate About You
May 10th, 2010 under Freeform. [ Comments: none ]

10 Things I Hate About You is back for a second season and this time things are really heating up for Patrick and Kat. I attended a press day for the ABC Family Show and Lindsey Shaw aka Kat told us what she thinks about this season.
Lindsey told us there are a lot of evolutions going on between the characters. There will be lots of changes going on between the relationships, they will go from friendship to more to back to being friends. Plus the friendships will also be changing up from friends to enemies to back to being friends.
Lindsey also talked about her character Kat, the girl who fights for all the causes. She says she is a lot like Kat and likes to fight the good fight. She added that it is Kat’s approach that gets her in trouble. When it comes to her boyfriend bad boy Patrick, she said she thinks that they are perfect for each other. They have so much tension that they have to resolve it! And how much fun has it been to watch them try to resolve it. I can’t wait to see what is up next for them.
So when Lindsey was asked where she saw Kat 20 years from now. She said that she sees her on Capitol Hill doing something environmental because that is what she could see herself doing. I wonder if that is where we will see her 20 years from now, check back in two decades and I will let you know.
Sadly the show was not renewed by ABC Family, but with four episodes left maybe if enough of us watch they will reconsider. Seriously 10 Things is a fun show that reminds you what it was like to be in high school or how you want your high school years to be. So watch it tonight and for the next 3 Mondays at 8p and let’s tell ABC Family we want this show back!!!
