Back in the ’70s, KISS was still wearing makeup, Freddie Mercury was the lead singer of Queen (and alive), and ABBA was still together.
That was a long, long time ago. However, this weekend, the three collided When KISS’s Paul Stanley and Queen’s Brian May went to see the ABBA Voyage show in London.
If someone told me that these three things would be under one roof, I never would have believed them. But it happened, and Mamma Mia that is why Gd Gave Rock’n’Roll to You and me!
ABBA is one of the most beloved bands in the World. They have had several massive hits like Dancing Queen, Take a Chance on Me, SOS, Fernando, and one called Mamma Mia. The last tune became a Broadway musical that was adapted into a movie that earned a sequel.
Pretty impressive. So we should honor them, especially when the quartet hit a huge milestone like they did today. The band shared this message, “It’s a very special day today! 50 years ago ABBA started their journey together when they recorded their song ‘People Need Love.'”
So let’s put on our Boogie Shoes (Yes, I know that is a KC and the Sunshine Band song) and belt out Voulez Vous to the person we want to sleep with. If we have no one, then we can just do Winner Takes All or Waterloo or any of their other hits.
It is has been 35 years since ABBA silenced themselves, but the four of them have found their voices again. They broke the spectacular news on social media today by saying, “The decision to go ahead with the exciting ABBA avatar tour project had an unexpected consequence. We all four felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and go into the recording studio. So we did. And it was like time had stood still and that we only had been away on a short holiday.
“It resulted in two new songs. One of them, ‘I Still Have Faith in You,’ will be performed by our digital selves in a TV special produced by NBC and the BBC aimed for broadcasting in December. We may have come of age, but the song is new. And it feels good.”
In the words of their last hit, “Thank You for the Music” That and Gimme, Gimme, Gimme more. This Dancing Queen is willing to spend Money, Money, Money on their new tunes.
Heck if it does really well, maybe other Disco acts will ask us to Take a Chance on Me too. Am I the only person who loves Disco?
BTW I wonder if the sequel to Mamma Mia had something to with the four of them finally reuniting and working on new music.
It’s a sad day on the Great White Way because the curtain is coming down on Mamma Mia! in September according to Playbill. The curtain went up on the Broadway musical written around Abba’s music in 2001 and will end a month before its 14th anniversary and 5,765 performances. While that is a long run for any show, it is not long enough for this wonderful musical turned in to a movie. At least we can take some solace that it will go down in history as the 8th longest running Broadway show and it will play on for one last summer!
Mamma Mia! the fun movie of the summer is finally out on DVD today and it includes the feature to sing along with the songs! I don’t know about you, but I already know all the words to their songs! But how much fun is it to sing along with Meryl Streep and Colin Firth as they bolt out Abba tunes!
I so want the Mamma Mia! DVD…hint hint!
