Let’s Dance again with David Bowie!
February 19th, 2007 under 80s. [ Comments: none ]

David Bowie is releasing a Eighties Greatest Hits Album, which is a bit of an oxymoron some cynical journalist will no doubt claim. The shape-shifter has collected together 19 of his favourite tracks recorded between 1980 and 1987 and has called them, perhaps unsurprisingly, ‘The Best Of 1980/87’. Together with a DVD of 15 videos the package will be shipped out en masse to record stocking emporiums so you can get your grubby little hands on them on 19 March.

No More Kings’ “Sweep the Leg”

RetroCrush (they have an interview with Billy Zabka)

Make sure to watch the whole the thing because the ending is the best part!
He was the best of the ’80s bullies, don’t you think? I have to admit I had a crush on him way back when!
BTW I checked out William Zabka’s IMDB page and I forgot he has been doing a lot of straight-to-DVD horror movies that air on SciFi all the time! So if you want to see him tune into SciFi this weekend because one of his movies will probably be on!

Erasure’s new album out May 22nd!
February 19th, 2007 under 80s. [ Comments: none ]

Erasure have announced the details of their forthcoming album. ‘Light At The End of The World’ is due out in the UK on May 21, and in the US a day later. This is the twelfth studio album for the veteran electronic dance-pop duo. The 10-track album was recorded in Maine in a private home that was converted into a studio. Vince Clarke and Andy Bell worked with long-time producer Gareth Jones, who is also known for his work with Depeche Mode and Nick Cave. They wrote the album over a month’s time in the fall of last year. The album’s first single, ‘I Could Fall In Love With You’, is scheduled to be released on April 2.

Erasure is one of my favorite concerts of all time! So I can’t wait for this album!

Seriously? A Milli Vanilli movie in the works?
February 19th, 2007 under 80s. [ Comments: 1 ]

Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to make a film about Milli Vanilli, the duo that rose to the top of the pop charts and fell just as quickly when they were exposed as frauds. Jeff Nathanson will write the script and direct the film. Kathleen Kennedy will produce. Nathanson, who presented a sympathetic look at a check forger in “Catch Me if You Can,” became intrigued with the notion of taking a similar tack on the music industry tale. He has secured the cooperation of Fabrice Morvan, as well as the estate
of Rob Pilatus, who died in 1998 as the pair were attempting a comeback. Their Grammy Award was rescinded, class action lawsuits were filed, and Milli Vanilli was dropped from the Arista roster. Morvan took it hardest, falling into drug abuse and serving time for robbery before dying from a drug overdose right before a reunion album could be released. “I’ve always been fascinated by the notion of fakes and frauds, and in this case, you had guys who pulled off the ultimate con, selling 30 million singles and 11
million albums and then becoming the biggest laughing-stocks of pop entertainment,” Nathanson said. “Fabrice had always refused to sell their rights; he was very cautious of Hollywood after all he’d been through. But my intention is to tell this story from their point of view.” Nathanson will begin writing as soon as production is completed on “Rush Hour 3,” which he scripted.

This would be better on VH1 than the big screen.

It’s ok to call him Ricky Schroder again
January 15th, 2007 under 80s, Ricky Schroder. [ Comments: none ]

Rick Schroder has ditched his adult name for the one that made him famous as a child star. For his upcoming stint on hit drama 24, the actor will be credited as Ricky Shroder – the name he grew out of in his late teens. He says, "My agents said, ‘You know, you should change your name to Rick. It’ll help grow up from a kid to an adult.’ I’ve learned in the last 20 years it takes more than dropping a letter from your name to help you grow up. And so I’m more comfortable being called Ricky. My wife, my mom, everybody calls me Ricky… Rick never felt right. I felt like I was trying to be something I wasn’t."

Starpulse

He was always Ricky to me, same way Joseph Lawrence will always be Joey to me!
